Hello! I'm new here. Just looking to get this off my chest and gain support if anyone has been through the same/similar situation:
I think my son has a unilateral anterior polar cataract im his left eye. I originally noticed a tiny white dot in the middle of his pupil when he was 2 weeks old. My pediatrician saw him at his 1 month well visit yesterday and I brought it to his attention (I called when I noticed it but they didnt think it warranted a sick visit). He couldnt see the dot at first, but upon closer inspection noticed it. He didn't seem overly concerned but referred us to a pediatric ophthalmologist for a specialists opinion.
Other than the dot, his vision seems to be ok (red reflexes are apparent and he tracks with both eyes) & he is healthy and thriving.
I'm just nervous of what the diagnosis will be. There is so little info available on it, & the outcomes seem to vary greatly from no vision impairment, surgery, patching, to blindness.
We go to the specialist in 2 weeks.
Sorry for the long post - just wondering if anyone has been through this? TIA

Welcome!
Nste has nystagmus, an underdeveloped macula which finished development by about 12 months and a slight lazy eye that was corrected with patching. I don't have any advice about cateracts.
Don't borrow trouble and google. Google is never kind. Good luck at the specialist and keep us posted.
Just wanted to follow up in case someone searches the board with a similar problem: the ophthalmologist said he has an anterior polar cataract but it is visually insignificant and shouldn't cause problems with his vision in the future. He said the iris forms as a sheet in the womb and "melts away" to make way for the pupil. He said it is just part of the iris that didn't go away.
