High-Risk Pregnancy

Preeclampsia. What's your story?

I'm 35 weeks and I've been diagnosed with preeclampsia. I've done two blood tests in one week and my liver is already getting worse and I have low amniotic fluid. The doctors are saying they are going to weigh up the risks vrs benefit each visit. When did you deliver, how was your baby?

Re: Preeclampsia. What's your story?

  • I had pre-e with my daughter and delivered at 35 weeks :)
She was IUGR and just 4lbs 6oz, but only spent 6 days in NICU (for feeding issues and they wanted her to gain a little weight). Otherwise, she was perfectly healthy.

  • I am at the hospital right now having the 24 hour observation and my bp has been elevated the whole time and had traces of protein in my urin when I first came in... the nurse said they are trying to rule out preeclampsia. I am 36 weeks pregnant and this is baby #2 and am scheduled for a repeat csection on 1/5/15 and dont know if they are going to diagnose me with it when the 24 hours are up or just say something else is wrong... realy dont want to have my baby this early and am very worried... anyone hear of someone having elevated bp and traces of protein in third trimester without having preeclampsia?
  • During my last pregnancy I was diagnosed with pre-e at 35 weeks, was induced 5 days later and my baby girl was born at 36 weeks. She was small at 4lbs 11oz but only had a NICU stay of 5 days because of jaundice and feeding issues. 9 months later she is average in size, ahead of her developmental milestones and completely healthy.

I had elevated BP and way more than traces of protein but was never diagnosed pre-e.

My story: At my 32w appt with my last pregnancy my BP was 145/90 and my protein was +3. I did a 24-hour collection and my protein count was at 1500 mg (5 times the maximum). Since I had no other signs of pre-e other than the BP and protein my OB started me on meds for my BP and had me do weekly blood tests and 24-hour urine collections. Other than rising protein count I never had any other issues and my bloodwork looked perfect so he even allowed me to return to work at 38w (at my request). We finally induced at my due date when my protein count was almost 3000. I know that everyone's experience is different but I just wanted to let you know that you can have high BP and high protein output without necessarily having other complications. Lots of T&Ps that you have a healthy pregnancy!

  • I had preeclampsia with my daughter. It came on fast and I was induced at 37 weeks. She spent 15 days in the nicu because she was born too fast (1 push) and got fluid in her lungs and her lung collapsed, but that was not caused by the pre-e. Luckily she didn't have any complications because of it.
