I've loved reading all your posts! From what I've experienced, very few women putting restrictions on themselves during pregnancy are basing their choices on their doctor's advice. It's generally "I heard from a friend" or read on Google. After asking my doctor in all seriousness what she doesn't want me to consume, it's really not much.
Don't drink alcohol, no more than one cup of coffee a day (too bad it tastes gross to me now), no smoking or drugs, no unpasteurized cheese, don't get sushi at a gas station.
I ate feta at a party the other day (without thinking twice) and had a vet mom remind me that it contained feta. I said I knew, and that it was okay as long as it was pasteurized, which all US cheese is. She said, "As long as you won't feel guilty if anything happens." Wowza. I wouldn't feel guilty, because I wouldn't ever do anything that I think would harm me or my baby.
With all three of my pregnancies (this one included) I couldn't tolerate the prenatal vitamins. What was recommended by OB's was Flintstone chewables. For whatever reason they are much easier to tolerate, and give you most if what you need. So every morning, my eight yr old and I take our vitamins together
Diet Coke. My doctor told me I could have 24oz a day, but I usually only have one can. I think the carbonation helps my stomach and the caffeine helps me be less constipated because it's a diarrhetic.
I don't take prenatals, and I probably won't. Same with my last pregnancy, no fail every time I take one, I puke. I've wasted so much money on different brands etc. I try to eat more veggies with the things I need to offset it, but I really don't see the point of the vitamin if I throw it up.
Ditto. I take folic acid by itself, and that's all. Not worth losing whatever food I managed to keep down to take the vitamin.
I wish coffee was still appealing to me. I was a big coffee drinker before I was pregnant. Now I can't even stand the smell of coffee.
I used to love eating lunch meat right out of the fridge. But I've been so nervous about it. Seeing other mommas say they're still eating it makes me feel better.
1 cup of coffee every other day and deli turkey meat here and there. For those not taking prenatals please take them! If you're having bad reactions to taking them I highly recommend Vitafol Nano prescription prenatels. It's a tolerable, teeny tiny blue pill. I only pay $25 and they are very easy to get down.
My doctor told me to stop taking them if they make me sick. So I'm gonna go with that.
I've cut back big time on the deli meat and hot dogs, but I'm not giving them up completely.
I'm also not giving up my granny smith apples with peanut butter. I just made sure to double check my apple supplier and fortunately they don't come from the contaminated supplier.
Soda and deli turkey. I have cut down on my soda intake, so I don't think I'm anywhere near the 200mg. And I will eat a turkey sandwich for lunch here and there. Wish I could cut soda out for good, pregnant or not, but that is my addiction. I have to have my Dr. Pepper!
I was able to stop drinking coffee a month or so before we started TTC. However my bad habit now is eating out for nearly every meal for the past month and a half. I keep it as healthy as possible but I still feel guilty for not cooking/saving money. I am just SO TIRED. Zombie doesn't cover it. 1 more week until my first trimester is over. Then hopefully I'll get some of that energy I keep hearing about..
Re: GTKY - What's the one bad habit you just haven't kicked yet?
