Celebrating Baby

Re: Celebrating Baby

  • The idea of "Socially acceptable" is subjective anyway, and only completely silly people would judge you based on that!
This is only partially correct.   Socially acceptable is subjective to the mores of the time period.  Not your individual group.  Etiquette has been around for thousands of years, and the idea behind etiquette is a collection of mores so as not to make people around you uncomfortable.  When you say etiquette isn't applicable, you're saying it's okay to make people uncomfortable.  That's kind of gross.

And just so you know, the reason your friends didn't tell you how tacky and uncouth it was for you to throw yourself a party and ask for money, is because that's not socially acceptable.  Your friends obviously have some class.
So I figured a party after may be the best. I just hope my hubby and I won't be super tired after the baby arrives. We're do excited and we just want to share with everyone! :-)
If you need help with this, there are a lot of here who can help you with the details.  We had a bris for my son when he was 8 days old, so I'm pro at parties shortly after the birth (and I know there are other women here who have done the same).  There's a lot of prep you can get out of the way ahead of time.  We also hosted a sip and see when he was about 4 weeks old that was fantastic. Don't let people scare you about the whole being tired thing - babies sleep a lot.  There's a lot of downtime when they're little.  It's when they get older and more mobile you have less time to plan things!
