Speaking of the new back up sitter. We need a new one. I shouldn't have even started with her in the first place, but I ran out of time. I thought she would be a perfect fit. Good location. SAHM so the kids would have other kids to play with on days the nanny wasn't available. She home schools so DD would be exposed to a learning environment and curriculum. Nice lady. Sweetest kids you've ever met.
But our nickname for her is the racist. She just moved here from another state. She was telling us how much she loved the neighborhood, but when they first moved in no one lived in the house next door or across the street. Now, her husband is so upset because black people moved in. She doesn't mind becuase they keep to themselves. Ummmmm...yeah. What the fuck?? And she also told me her husband would never work for the hospital I work for because it's a Catholic organization and Catholics are crazy. Who says this stuff? And she had not one bit of hesitation when she said it. So bizarre.
Hopefully two days out of the the month with this lady won't do any damage to the kids, but good god. This cannot turn long term if the nanny doesn't work out like I had planned.
This was exactly how our last sitter was....you're not in Missouri are you? Because that's where she moved to. :-)
She was a born again Christian and just couldn't get it in her head that I didn't want anything to do with that, and I was quite content being a Catholic. They had Hispanic neighbors and if she'd talk about them, she'd whisper it, like they were going to hear her across the street. It was the longest 4 months of my life.
That reminds me of a story from yesterday. We were watching the Packer game at my brother and his boyfriend's house. His boyfriend's Dad, brother and SIL were there.
His dad says, "Well, all black people look the same!" (because he mixed up the name of two football players). I bit my lip so freaking hard. It was the first time I met this guy and I also couldn't tell if he was kidding, but he wasn't. My brother was bright red, but wouldn't rock the boat enough to say something.
My ILs aren't much better, so at least he & I can relate. Ugh.
I read something on FB today about how to successfully shop at Amazon...probably Buzzfeed, but of course now I can't find it. Anyway, it had a link in there to the warehouse/outlet stuff and I was able to get 4 Milwaukee Brewer's shirts for Nancy & Cal for under $2.00 each. And then I bought these for only $2.50 for when we do our big friend's game outing.
they were $2.50 an hour and a half ago. Now they're $20! My husband is going to think I'm a moron when he opens the email with the link pasted in it. I can hear him now..."$20 for giant plastic hands? what are you doing?!" And I'll be pulling up my receipt saying "NO LOOK! $2.50! Even if we only use them for 1 game, it's totally worth it!"
Sigh. It's hard being married to me. Sometimes I feel bad for DH.
I think both of you have done snapfish or shutterfly books with your kids' artwork before. One of my ML goals is to reduce clutter and we have big piles of art projects that I've been saving. Our DCP does projects and now with preschool, we get double from Jack. I want to frame some for their playroom and maybe change the decor in the kids' bathroom and incorporate some art somehow. We are also going to hang one of those wire hanging clothespin things to house some art as well.
Questions-How did you take the pics for the book? Did you use a background of sorts? Did you do each project in an individual pic or group them a few in a pic?
Any other tips you found were helpful would be great too.
Ha, this is my goal today. I've never done one but just took all the pictures. I put a white posterboard down in natural light. Most were zoomed in so you couldn't see the edges but the ones that were shapes, I wanted to get the entire thing. I just did one per picture and will do some collage pages in the book. I also photographed all of James's first then took a picture of Leo's name and all his after so it will be easier to put in. I plan to do one book for James and one for Leo and going forward will combine, I just have so much right now.
I've been driving myself insane with researching preschool. I never thought I would care THAT much, but the whole "missed the deadline by a week" for starting preschool is really bugging me. He'll be 6 when he starts kindergarten, which I know is ultimately a good thing, but at this age it bothers me that he'll be 3 but will be with all 2 year olds. I'm worried he'll be bored.
That would bother me a lot. I think it starts to even out once you get to 4/5 or 5/6 (so I can totally get behind the way it works for kindergarten), but not at the 2/3 age range. There is a huge difference between a 2 year old and a 3 year old. It's why our daycare actually has a class from 2-2.5 and another from 2.5-3.
I was going to suggest looking at part time daycare preschool because it is common to do 6 month class sizes. That is how all the schools we have gone to have been set up. They don't start following the school year deadline until preK.
Tell me--if I were putting these in Nancy's mermaid room, would you think they were pieces of coral, or would you know that they're trees? :-( I can't find any fricking curtains.
I'm here laying in bed recovering from gallbladder surgery on Friday. Surgery went well. I was in a lot of pain the first and second day, but now I'm able to get up and move around. Now, I feel like I'm in the over do it territory where I feel like I can do so much, but I really probably shouldn't before I give myself a hernia.
The kids went to the new back up sitters house today for the first time today since the new nanny isn't available on Mondays this month. I feel so bad. That's a lot of change for a short amount of time.
Glad the surgery went well @BobKat22. Don't overdo it!

It always cracks me up when people say Catholics are crazy. How are we any crazier than any other religion?
@BobKat22 Take it easy and make sure you're healed before you start doing stuff. I always start too soon and regret it. Yikes on the sitter. That would bother me too. Hopefully you can find a new backup.

In a mermaid themed room, I would see coral before trees.

I think they look coralish. I mean, if you're doing a mermaid themed room it would probably make me think coral first if I saw them. If they were in a room decorated with birds then I'd probably think trees.

I see "organic plant shape." So...I don't see coral, per se, but I don't *not* see it.
Late to the game today, toddler with the flu, and it looks like Benjy has something going on too, hopefully just a cold for him.
I met with the associate director of the research center for the job I am really really hoping to get today. It turned into an hour long pseudo-interview, and I'm feeling really good about it.
The position would be a promotion (three levels up from my current role) and a significant raise, and so much more room for growth.

I said screw it because DH said they looked like trees and bought white panels and a valance that I'm going to drip dye myself. I had good success doing that last year, and for only $4 a panel, I'm ok with it if I screw it up.
@MarisaKathleen could you use your Cricut to make coral for the valence? I know I have a cartridge with coral and my Expression cuts fabric. Just a thought.
I'm actually making these starfish to hang as garland over the valance. :-)
It's my weekend plan with Nancy. :-) She loves playing with clay/dough/etc.
@Marisakathleen I didn't read the whole thread but saw you were doing coral patterened curtains or couldn't really find some. What about doing shower curtains? You could line them with fabric on the backside.

This is way outside my skill set. :-)
These are the projects I'm doing, plus the mermaid painting I posted on IG...
Obviously the bed is not my project, unless you want to consider it that because I'll be assembling it...
My Mom's sewing the doll. I'm doing the curtains, paintings & starfish. I really want the ship wheel mirror, but can't find it in real life. I'm hoping once stores start putting their summer stuff out I'll be able to find it at like Pier 1 or something.

I can barey sew on a button so curtains wouldn't be in my wheel house but so cute!! I love the room. It'll be so bright and colorful. Maybe check thrift stores too. My grandma used to have a mirror like that. I'll keep an eye out on my shopping excursion tomorrow and see if there's one out now!
