Re: Heart beat

  • I may be doin. Something wrong

  • How far along are you?
  • I'm 13 weeks today but I got a heart beat but it's not fast it's really low and there's a lot of movement though
  • That may be your heartbeat.
  • I go to the doctor Monday the told me last time I went everything was good we was both really healthy I am just really scared but if the baby is face the opposite direction can you still hear the heartbeat really good or no sorry this is my first baby
  • Most of those at home fetal dopplers are only fit for the third trimester. If you had a slower heartbeat, it would've been your own. I wouldn't freak out with an at-home device like that. If you look them up online, you'll see what i'm saying about them being more accurate in the third trimester. I had one a long time ago with my first and I remember it having a hard time sometimes picking it up even in the third trimester.

  • Okay thank you
  • My doctor had trouble today at 12weeks and a day. Doing it at home is very tough and causes a lot of uneeded stress.

  • They told me when I come Monday they was going to listen to the heart they are supposed to be doing the heart Doppler then so we will see
  • Yeah that what I'm sister in law told me is that the doctor don't really want you to use them cause if you can't find it you stress about it and like I said I hear the movement just not the heart beat
  • Exactly what pp said. My dr had trouble at 12 weeks 2 days also and the baby was fine
  • Thank yall so much for the advise
  • Look much lower than you would think. It can take me 10/15 minutes to find.

  • Okay thank you
  • What doppler have you got? I heard heartbeat at 13 weeks took me awhile to get used to it. I used a little gel, start from belly button and work way down very slow, tilting now and again. I dont have to search as low now and can find it within mins and I've just hit 15 weeks. Don't freak out just yet, sure baby will be hiding somewhere in there. I could only find placenta heartbeat at first, so don't jump to conclusions just yet. Good luck

I couldn't find it at first I looked in you tube there many tutorials that may help you. :)
  • I found my baby's heart beat from about 9 weeks, it was around 160 and close to your groin, you will most likely find it easier on the side your babys on. And a little pressure helps as well. By 13 weeks he is probably close to your pubic bone? Just try again after a couple of days and time the beats, after a while you know who's heartbeat you are listening to.

Oh! Also found using better earphones helped, sometimes its very soft. And A LOT of that gel
  • As a trained medical professional, I would not buy a home doppler for exactly this reason. Heartbeats can be very difficult to find and you are just going to stress yourself the fuck out. Not worth it. Return the doppler and save yourself from the stress. Enjoy hearing it at your ob appointments.
  • My midwife just told me at my last appointment that the at home Dopplers and 3D/4D ultrasounds are no longer recommended. Something to do with too much exposure for the baby. I wasn't really listening because I don't do either of those but it was brand new information that was released a few weeks ago. This is in Canada though.
  • @Marlee8‌, the FDA in the USA discourages home use as well. https://www.fda.gov/ForConsumers/ConsumerUpdates/ucm095508.htm

I agree with @JenzRas‌ -- I wouldn't use one because, as your experience has proven, moms who don't know how to find the HB or interpret the results just stress themselves out unnecessarily... and then some call their doctors and waste medical professionals' time and drive up health care costs for no good reason.

If you're going to use it anyway, I've heard there are good tutorials on youtube.

  • I have a Sonoline B and found the HB around 11 weeks. It was in the 160s. I did pick up my own as well, but it was around 120. When I checked again this last week it was easier to find, louder, and still in the 160s (12w3d today).

  • This is the reason I will not invest in a doppler of my own.....knowing me, I will have a tough time finding the baby's heart beat and will freak out worrying.....over and over and over.
  • Don't worry. I was at a doctors appointment at 13 weeks, and even the doctor couldn't find a hearbeat, although an ultrasound reveled a very rubuncious little baby. :-)

  • I have one.  I have like 6 weeks between appointments and I was stressing myself out wondering if she was ok.  It's been a real stress reliever for me.  There are days where she is hard to find or just moving too much.  (I'm 15 weeks tomorrow) I looked on youtube for videos of how to use it and what her heartbeat sounds like.  My doctor hasnt used the doppler on me yet, since my last appointment was at 10 weeks and that's way too early.  She's still really low at 15 weeks, only about an inch- inch and a half above my hair line.
Dont freak out, take a deep breath, drink a glass of water and try again.
