Hi, im 4'11" and had a starting weight of 105. I know everyone gains differently but was curious of what some other shortys have gained since we have such small frames to begin with. I actually went down a pound from last week and am currently 112.2 today I am exactly 18 weeks. Thanks ladies!

  • I have had trouble gaining weight. I'm 5' 2" and was 107 before I got pregnant. I'm 17 weeks and I'm 108. Up until week 14 I was having trouble keeping food down. I have my 19 week checkup soon and I feel like my Dr is going to not be happy with me :(

Cute bump pic, OP! We have a great running thread of bumps called HDBD (hump day, bump day) that we usually post in on Wednesdays! You can post yours there and see all of our bumps too!

As for the weight, I've gained some and my dr doesn't seem worried so I'm not really keeping track.

This. I'll worry when my doctor tells me to. The beauty of going once a month is that as long as I'm eating ok, I know it can't get too out of control one way or another before I see her again.

Additionally, if you search the board, you'll see that a lot of people have had this question and you're likely to find good responses in those threads.

  • I'm not that short (5'4") and I started at a higher weight (145) and I hadn't gained anything up until now-week 18. Dr wasn't concerned at all.

  • I am 4'11 as well, only 17 weeks but my weight gain is going ok. I was 110 before pregnancy and am 117 now. The first trimester I also had a very hard time with nausea and eating, but I've gotten most of my appetite back so I'm hoping more weight gain will come soon. Although at the doctors the other day there wasn't really much concern about it so I think I'm doing alright for now

  • @mrsblack11, I don't weigh myself either. But than again, I've never really weighed myself.

As far the height/weight combo, well no body is the same so does it really matter? I'm 5'2" and my weight well I'm growing a baby so yeah.
  • I'm 5'3" and I've gained 5 lbs so far. I am super happy about that because I gained too much with DD. :)
  • I don't think height will always matters because every person reacts differently to food/pregnancy regardless of how tall they are.

I'm 5'4 and I hadn't gained any weight at 14 weeks. Iasked my doctor if that was bad and she just laughed and said "don't worry, it's coming..." And I gained 6 pounds in the next five weeks.

  • Pretty sure I've gained about 13-14 lbs so far at 19 weeks. I am completely ok with this -  my Dr. is too. I'm certainly not eating everything in sight (at least not on a daily basis :). I think I'm close to where I was with DS1 and gained 30-35 lbs total during that pregnancy. Seems reasonable to me. I will not cry if it is a few more than that this time around. Every body and pregnancy is different. As long as your OB is not concerned and baby is growing well, I think that's all that matters!
  • I'll be 20w tomorrow and am at 145 and 5'3". I started this pregnancy at 148. No m/s either... Not sure why I can't gain weight.

  • I'm a short fatty. My weight has been different with all 3 pregnancies. With the first I was the most concerned with my weight and ended up gaining the most so far, over 50lbs. My midwife liked to remind me every single visit that I was gaining too much weight, as if I didn't already realize it. I weighed myself at least once a week that pregnancy. I ended up switching midwives. Some OBs/MWs are very concerned about weight, others are not. If you are concerned even a little, talk to your OB/MW. Last pregnancy and this one, I choose not to weigh myself at all at home and am choosing not to worry no matter how much weight I gain. If it is a medical problem I know my midwife will bring it up. Weight can always be lost.

Also, not only does every pregnant women gain weight differently, but we lose it all differently too. With some women the weight falls off. I lost 30lbs within 5 days after my DS was born because I was so swollen during pregnancy that between baby, uterus, fluid, water retention, etc, 30lbs was vanished. With my DD, I only lost 23lbs automatically after she was born. After that I have to work really hard to lose the weight, even with breastfeeding, whereas my friend loses weight while breastfeeding her babies without even trying.

That was really rude and totally uncalled for.

  • I don't recall ever seeing a recommended weight gain based on height. What does your pregnancy book or doctor say? My body gains what it wants to when pregnant even with dieting due to GD. How quickly you lose weight after baby has nothing to do with anything either unless you are a celebrity. Stop comparing, do your best, your baby is what matters. And no underwear pictures please. Even bare belly pictures bother me but that's because I wouldn't want that posted on a public message board where any creepy guy in his mom's basement can enjoy.

  • The OP really needs to come back and apologize for a classless statement. I feel like she's being a bit of a AW...but that's just my opinion.

It's a shame that the only quality you have that you think others would envy is your weight.

Yep, this. Also, seriously disgusting comment @mfinlay611‌. I assure you, none of us are jealous of someone with so little depth.

@mfinlay611‌ I think you need to leave. Don't forget your bag of tube steaks. And don't let the door hit your vag on the way out.

  • Just for info, petite is in reference to your height, not weight. You can be 4'11" and 600 pounds, but you're still considered petite. People use petite in wrong context very often. OP should have said she was petite AND thin. Either way she seems to think it's okay to body shame.
