Confession - I was an annoying dog lover until I had a baby

Yes, I used to dress my pug dog up every year at Halloween and send out an email. Inevitably, I'd always receive an email from a group saying "You SO need to have a baby."

This year, I was too into the baby to put the Pug in a Halloween costume. So in my house, the dogs are stoked the baby is here!

On a side note, don't you feel like the dogs forget what life was like before the baby? I don't find any different behavioral issues because they sort of have accepted the baby as a new "pack" member. That given said, a plastic surgeon once told me that i would never believe the amount of cases of children's faces he has to fix because of the family pet. We may just be lucky for now.....

I still may be an annoying dog owner. I love my beagle babies. They were my first babies. However, they are dogs not people. That doesn't mean they are any less a part of my family. But they know their place in the pack and the baby is ahead of them. They dont mess with his toys, they have one basket and he has three in the living room and they dont get in them. I work with them and DS we play together so the beagles feel more comfortable with him.

I was so the same way. I am glad the pups love DD and know to get away from her if she gets to rough.

Now, your comment about plastic surgery just scared me.

A majority of those "incidences" in which your plastic surgeon is talking about are a result of parental negligence. Never leave your child unattended with your dog. As a parent, and a dog owner, it's your responsibility to prevent anything from happening.

And an incident will happen. It's inevitable. The baby will poke the dog's eye, step on it's tail, or the dog will be nervous when the baby starts crawling. There are plenty of steps you can take to help them both establish a respectful relationship, but it takes work. And it seems like a majority of parents are too lazy/irresponsible to do the legwork.

Funny, I used to dress up my dog & cat and send out cards too. They sure have taken the back burner since DD arrived! My cat I think is excited b/c he hates people, and now no one really pays attention to him. Our basset hound is the saddest thing you've ever seen. He is very jealous of the baby, but he is very gentle with her. He does steal pacifiers and would love to get ahold of a dirty diaper.

Ditto this. Sadie knows her place but she is still our furbaby. She's actually been awesome with DD so far. She leaves her toys alone and is very cautious and gentle when around her.

My little boston terrier mom died and she was bottle fed so she really was like a baby

She has issues now because of that but, I understand I was the same way BEFORE a baby.

I was and still am an annoying dog lover! All my holiday cards and pics were of the dog, now they are just dog and DD. We had a little photo shoot today with dog and DD, Dog gets very happy for those b/c she knows she gets a treat if she sits nice. LOL.
