Nursing bra sizes

I tried to glance through the discussion topics to make sure this one wasn't there as well as looking online for answers. I didn't find what I needed.

I was going to order a nursing bra online because I found a good price, although with this being my first pregnancy idk what size to order. Do I go up from what size I am now? If so how much?? I'm a 32D since I've been pregnant. Used to be 34A ( not that that matters now lol ) I'm just not sure what to expect as far as how much my chest will expand with I start producing milk. I did look at a guide for what to look for in bras that was helpful. Still need help with size!!

Tips ?? :)

Re: Nursing bra sizes

  • I've read to get a bra with a little extra room (during pregnancy) so when your milk comes in it wont be too tight and cause plugged ducts.  I just bought a new one in my current preg size that thankfully has some extra room in the cup so I can wear it now and I'm confident i'll be able to grow into during nursing as well.  If you are unsure go get fitted and ask the instore "expert" their suggestion.

  • I've bought a few to be prepared, and went up a cup size from normal. I didn't stock up on MANY, that way if they do get HUGE, I can purchase a few more and not feel bad about wasting $$ on a bunch I didn't use.

  • I also bought bra extenders on amazon (stretchy ones) on case I needed a few extra inches.
  • Last pregnancy I went from an A to C while pregnant and up to a D when my milk came in. I got a D nursing bra but my boobs went back down to a C. I'd probably just go up a size.

I'm in an E right now so kinda scared to see what I will need when the milk comes in haha
  • I would goto motherhood get measured to see what your size is now. Once the milk comes in wait a couple of days your breasts will swell after delivery an you will be stuck with a bra that is way to big. I have four bras from motherhood an I love them, but honestly I lived in my nursing cami the first two times. I just bought two for this time around they are the best n most comfortable for me. Your gonna wanna try different bras for comfort every bra fits different an online you can't try different styles an see what fits your body best .
  • Thank so much!!
  • I would get whatever size you are now, and buy bra extenders.

  • I was a 36C before pregnancy, 38D and DD while pregnant, and an E when nursing. I put on a 38 DD yesterday and it was still tight. I need to find my 40E bra. But to be prepared for the early days, I'd go with a sports bra style to get you started, then you can go and try some on after. I didn't have any last time and my boy came early. So my SIL went out to get me a few and they all needed to be returned because they were too small except the sports bra style. I had no idea my boobs would get that much bigger after.

  • I've been close to buying a nursing bra but I don't want to get the wrong size so I'm just going to wait and make do with a nursing cami and sleeping bras until my milk comes in.

I made the mistake of buying expensive nursing bras a little too early. My boobs never truly "fit" right, I agree with nursing camis and sleeping bras for now. Honestly, I think I wore a sports bra daily, or went without. I hated the underwires!
  • Get fitted. Pre pregnancy I was a 42 D and I got fitted as a 44 G to give me
Some room for when my milk comes in. At motherhood they are pretty accurate at predicting what size you will need after about 20 weeks. There are two adjustments you can make to make it a little smaller until your milk comes in and you need more
Space. Get nursing bras though (not just regular bras) because the cups are shaped a little different.
  • @jessuhmarie‌ you're right. I was in motherhood getting measured tonight because my bra is getting a bit snug and she was trying to sell me nursing bras and told me that I'll probably only go up 1/2 a cup to a cup. She measured me at 32 D and the bra I have on now is a 38 E. I know my boobs haven't shrunk especially not my band size. I didn't trust her measurement so I just bought a pack of extenders
  • Thanks for asking, I've been wondering this too, I think I'm just going to get a sports style nursing bra until I can go a week or two post partum and get fitted. I just HATE the uni-boob sports bras give and actually appreciate the support from an underwire.

  • I went in to Motherhood as well and found out that I'm currently an F cup size (used to be D). I don't even know what comes after that. So I got some stretchy "sleeping bras" for when my milk comes in and I go flirting with Z size, or whatever. They are super comfy!

  • @Peledreamsofrain‌ that scares me then. I was a D too and have been wearing the nursing/tank bras already and they are starting to get tight. If these girls get bigger when my milk comes in what the..hell size am I going to be?!?!
  • Agree with tanks and or sports bra style nursing bras. Underwire isn't great for the beginning either so those work really well. After a few weeks you will know what fits and also what styles you will like for nursing and can go get some then.
  • The extenders work really well.  I listened to a sales person and went up to a 38 from a 34 a few months ago because my bras were hurting me so much.  I'm still not a 38, so I had to sew the back band tighter.  I wish I had just bought my size at the time (36) and used an extender if I expanded more.  I've been only buying one at a time until my milk comes in and using extenders on my sports bras for when I'm at home. I think I will get a bravado original cotton nursing bra for the hospital but I can't walk around for months with a stretchy bra because I need more support.
