Baby heartbeat

I have had two scans first 9 weeks 2 days heartbeat 176. Second 12 weeks 164
heartbeat. Both visually seen.

I have a chest/lung infection and have been given antibiotics. Midwife listened for heartbeat on doppler... Nothing heard. She said not to.worry as too early yet

When did you hear your baby's heartbeat for the first time.

Re: Baby heartbeat

  • Haven't heard yet. I have my 13 week appt tomorrow so I'll find out then.

  • My OB tried the Doppler at my 12 week appointment and couldn't find the heartbeat. I got an ultrasound after and everything was fine. I don't have another appointment until 16 weeks so hopefully then!

  • Thank you I am worried as had a stillbirth previously
  • My Dr doesn't even try until after 16 weeks because it can be difficult to find the baby's heartbeat that early and can make mom's worry.
  • Heard it at 12 and 14wks
  • Heard mine at 13 weeks on home doppler
  • We saw the heartbeat at 6 weeks. We heard at 10 weeks and 15 weeks.
  • We heard the heartbeat at 12 weeks 2 days but she told me before she did it not to wory if they couldn't hear it bc it's so faint at that point.
  • Saw the heartbeat at 7 weeks, still have yet to hear it. Dr hasn't even attempted to give me another u/s or even doppler yet. Hopefully soon though.

  • I heard mine at 10 weeks, but it took her a bit to find it.

I heard mine at 11 weeks. But she warned me before doing it that if the baby or my uterus were in the wrong position I might not be able to hear it. But we did and it was beautiful!

  • Heard it last week at 12 weeks 2 days. My OB did warn me not to freak out if she couldn't find it though.

  • Tried at 12 weeks and the Dr couldn't locate it. She sent me for an ultrasound and realized that I'm only 11 weeks so the dopplar wasn't picking it up.

  • My doctor didn't even try until 13 weeks with DD. This time she went ahead and tried at 10 weeks because I wouldn't be back in until 14 weeks. She said it all depends on where baby is positioned. We heard and she seemed rather impressed that we found it that early. More common once you hit 13 weeks.

  • I heard yesterday at 13wks, but it took some searching. No worries though--- I wonder if it had anything to do with weight. I'm--- a lil thicker, and I think that could have played a part. I could be wrong though.
  • I've been able to find mine for weeks, but it's because I have the time to sit and search. If your doctor wanted to commit 10-15 minutes to the search, they'd probably find it, but with such busy offices, it's just not feasible to spend such time. You should consider getting a home Doppler. I worry all the time (and I have not had the ultimate sadness of stillbirth) and it is comforting to be able to find it myself.
  • We heard ours via doppler at 13 weeks 4 days. I think 12 weeks is probably a little early. No worries!

  • Supposed to hear it tomorrow - 12 weeks
  • Let me just say that if you get a Doppler to use at home, proceed with caution and do your research before. I was able to find mine the first time after an hour, the second time after about 30 minutes, it got easier after that. However, not all babies are easy to hear using the Doppler. You could have a tilted uterus or the baby could be far back. So, don't just run out and get one. Do research and weigh the pros and cons, watch a few how-to videos on Youtube.
  • I don't get it... If a heartbeat was confirmed and a heartbeat was heard via Doppler previously, they should be looking for the heartbeat via ultra sound. In my 2nd pregnancy they couldn't find baby's heartbeat via Doppler and they sent me in for an ultra sound asap. Are you considering a new midwife?
  • I heard mine at 12 weeks after seeing it on the u/s first. It took him a while to find it with the doppler though - he had to go back and use the u/s to verify where the baby was and then he was able to pick it up.

  • Midwife told me we are 13 weeks plus 6
days when she tried listening with doppler. We thought we were 14 weeks 3 days from the sonographer advice previously

My Bmi is plus and I'm.concerned as never had any problems hearing it with my angel previously.

I have appointment on the 26 Jan but I would have thought an ultrasound scan would have been given to.confirm.

I am really upset by it and worrying

I can't wrap my head around why she wouldn't double check via ultrasound. In all 5 of my pregnancies we were able to pick up Doppler prior to 13 weeks, and I to am a chunky monkey. You may want to consider a physician switch.
  • They tried it for the first time on me at 11 weeks and found it pretty much right away but before they did she said it might be a long shot

  • 8 weeks Is when I heard my babies heart beat
  • I hate the Doppler just for this reason. Doctor scanned me at 12 weeks and heard nothing, he requested an ultrasound for the following morning...everything turned out fine, but it was hell for me for 24 hours....needless to say, I told my doctor right where to put his Doppler, and had the nurse write in my chart to never touch me with it lol! But a lot of my friends helped me to understand that in more cases than usual you won't hear the heart beat clearly til 14 or 15 weeks... Hope this helps
  • I went on Tuesday and the doc had a hard time finding it. So scary!

  • I went in at 11.5 weeks and got to hear the heartbeat for the first time. Although it was awesome and totally a relief, the buildup was scary as it took some time to find it at first!

So glad many of you were able to verify via ultrasound after not hearing. We always think the worst. Being reassured is the best feeling!!
  • I'm 13 weeks and 2 days today and my OB couldn't find the heartbeat. I had the NT scan 30 min after that and there my baby was, movin and a'groovin. Like previous posters said, it depends on where the baby is at and where your uterus is positioned.

  • At 9 weeks we saw and heard it when my doctor did a vaginal ultrasound. At my last ultrasound at 13w5d I recorded it on my phone so my DH could also listen to it since he hasn't been able to go with me.
  • Heard it on Doppler at 13w4d. Didn't hear it at 9w4d but the midwife said that was crazy early to even try. Even at 13w4d it took a while to find.

OP said the HB had been confirmed by two scans previously but this was the first time trying on Doppler. My midwife didn't find mine on Doppler at 9w4d and I hadn't had an ultrasound yet and she still didn't send me in for one. It was a hard wait but we heard it at 13w4d and everything was great. I still haven't had a u/s and won't til my 18w4d anatomy scan.

  • I've seen my baby's heart beat on 2 different U/S but I have yet to hear, I'm 13+1 now, last time I went to DR I was 11+5 and he couldn't hear HB. I do have an anterior placenta too so that can make things more difficult. I hope to hear it at midwife appt this Monday. Goodluck to you all!! :)
  • Saw it on ultrasound at 8 weeks. Finally got it hear it at 11 weeks and again at 15 weeks.
  • Heard ours at the doctor at 9w. Last night I tried to find it on my at-home doppler and couldn't. I'm not worried though, I haven't had any success finding it on my own yet.

  • A lot depends on the mothers weight and how you're carrying! The thinner you are the easier the heartbeat is to find. Keep your head up its still early yet.
  • Heard my little one's heartbeat January 7th at 13w 4 days. It was 149. :)

  • Saw the heartbeat at almost 6w and heard it at 10w :) it was 126 on ultrasound but I don't know what it was later on Doppler. She just said rhythm and rate were excellent!
