Sorry kinda gross but belly button piercings!?!

So I didn't see any other threads related to this, if there are I'm sorry.
I took my belly ring out probably 3 months before I even got pregnant and it's still not closed up! I've taken it out before and it closed up really fast. So my question is, will I have some huge gross hole in my tummy soon or should it stay the same size or go away!!! Please help I am a litte freaked out at the prospect of a giant hole above/through my bellybutton.

  • I took mine out years ago, and I still have a hole and scar tissue. It didn't really get bigger when I was pregnant with dd, just longer and flatter.
  • Mine closed many years ago, but I can already tell it's going to cause a weird mark on my stomach. :( I'm starting to see more and more of the inside of my belly button and scarring. I'm hoping it fades after birth, but I don't have my hopes up.
  • Mine has closed for the most part, but you can still see the exit holes. :[

  • I took mine out a few weeks ago too. Still have a hole, hoping it closes soon. My girlfriends took hers out mid pregnancy and now it's just a little scar so I'm hopeful
  • Mine is definitely closed but still looks like it's not closed. But yeah. It'll end up looking like what it looks like. I don't think it'll be horrible or anything. I don't think you need to worry about it looking like a gaping hole or anything if that's what you're worried about!
  • I just took mine out last week at my A/S because the gal told me I had to so she could get to the baby.  I have been debating on putting it back in but I know it'll come out soon anyway so I might as well leave it out.  It's weird not having it there since I've had it in for a million years (give or take ;))
  • What do you mean by closed? As in healed? I had mine six years before I got pregnant and I got a very big stretch mark on it since i didn't take it out in time. It's always sat weird though since I almost ripped it out the day I got it. (Accident)
  • @lwyz‌ that was exactly what i was worried about! I already felt bad about "losing my identity" because I took out my gauges (in my ears) this week because i kept having these horrific dreams of LO yanking them out. And I can't fit in any of my favorite clothes anymore... so the gaping hole idea was horrific to think about on top of everything else...

Its definitely healed but can still see a hole kind of? Idk I've been over analyzing everything about my body lately. (Change is hard dammit)
  • Right, gotcha, I'm taking mine out this very second...
  • Your hole won't just won't disappear when you get bigger at least mine didn't. It might look different after everything is over though but I think that's an everyone is different kind of thing. Belly tattoos are a different story. Don't get me started on that subject.
  • Mine went back to normal after my first two babies and i am still wearing my ring. The hole always stays, may look weird during pregnancy but most bounce back

Same- mine has been out for like 6 years and there's still a hole there. Gross.
  • I haven't had a ring in mine for a couple of years. After my first pregnancy it was stretched a bit and is starting to stretch again. It's a hole that I feel will remain open forever :( I think I'll look at getting the skin fixed somehow one day.

  • @Jessica16393‌ yep! I actually planned waaaay ahead when I got my tattoo and made sure to get it somewhere that doesnt stretch/sag (top of my back between my shoulder blades)
  • Yeah mine didn't get weird with my first but then I had laparoscopic surgery and that definitely ruined it, now I have tons of scar tissue and can never have a piercing again.
  • I wore mine until the day DD was born and am still wearing it now... We'll see how long it lasts this time.

  • I've had mine pierced since I think around the age of 15...I'm not *almost* 27 eeeekk! This is pregnancy number two and I took it out during my first pregnancy which was over four years ago. I have randomly stuck a bar in the hole just out of curiosity if it had ever closed. Sure hasn't! Mine looks totally normal minus the fact that it's not as sexy with a few mommy pounds added!!! :) Id post a pic but don't want to freak anyone out
  • I need to take mine out. I will update you guys on what happens lol
  • I'm keeping mine in just gonna switch to pregnancy rings when this one gets uncomfortable. Maybe look into that if you ladies don't want to take out your ring completely
  • What everyone else said. I took mine out 10 years ago or so and there is still a "hole" there, although nothing I could put any jewelry through, I don't think. Here is the gross part--I can still squeeze stuff out of it. So it's possible that it will never close up for good.

  • I got mine pierced at 15, had it for maybe a year and took it out. Then I got it re-pierced at 18 because maybe I'll like it better this time! Nope. Took it out again maybe a nine months to a year later. So I've had it out for the past 6 years, and I definitely don't have a hole, just a teeny tiny scar that is a very slight indention.

I'm willing to bet the scar won't stay teeny tiny for long.

  • I bought one of the clear plastic ones for while pregnant I tried it out and drove me nuts only had it in for 10 mins and put my old ring back in...still waiting to take mine out
  • I took mine out when I found out. I'm kind of expecting it to look weird. What I'm more concerned about is the dermals I have in my lower back. I went and got a new nose ring last week and the piercer I talked to said if they bother me at all to come in. He said they wouldn't hurt more than they did getting them but everyone I know that's had them says getting them taken out was the worst ever

  • Ugh one more thing I need to look forward to. I took mine out months before we started trying and it already looks wierd not having it there, it's still open...hopefully some laser at the good ole plastic surgeon csn tske care of that too when we're done making babies.
  • I've had mine out for a few years (after having one for 15 years!) and can still put a ring through it. I don't know if any if it has to do with how long you had it, perhaps?

I'm happy to hear so many of us had them though!

I know that there are pregnancy belly rings you can also buy. They're longer but I don't know if I would want one with a pregnant belly!!!

  • Back dermals??? Ooooowwwww!!!
  • I seem to be a part of the select few who is leaving my belly ring in. I have had mine pierced for almost 12 years now, and even though I'm almost 27, I still love it! I always wear a plastic ring because my employer has a metal free work environment. I also bought a plastic pregnancy ring for when my current ring is no longer comfortable. I have no plans/intentions on taking it out.

@eshap90‌ I had one back dermal right in the lower center of my back. This was with my first pregnancy. I forewarned my OB about it and he requested I have it removed...(epidural reasons) to which I responded by asking that he be the one to remove it for me. ( I told him I was uncomfortable going into a tattoo parlor while preggo) He ended up I've me a little shot to numb it locally and then removed it with a scalpel. Easy peasy. I would definitely recommend this route...I have heard the pliers ripping them out without being numb is brutal! Good luck!
  • Mine didn't get weird until my 3rd, and then it was only some groovy stretch marks. They are the only stretch marks I have and you can only see them when I get some sun. Not much you can do about it, so I've decided to wear them with pride!
  • Does anyone know how bad side (rib, lower hip area) tattoos stretch during pregnancy? After this LO is born i have a memorial tattoo I want to get for all the people in my family who have died but I don't plan on this being our only child. Should I think of somewhere else to get it?
  • Also thank you everybody for the reassurance about my belly ring, before I started this thread I was in full on panic mode and my DH thought I had lost my mind lol.
  • Here is my inappropriate story on WHY you should tackle this sooner rather than later if you want to get a piercing out.  When I was in college, I got a piercing in a very intimate place.  It wasn't visible and didn't bother me so I left it in until I got pregnant 15-16 years later.  I realized that I needed to take it out and frankly was way too old for it.  Problem:  I couldn't get it out, DH couldn't get it out.  There was NO way that I was letting him approach me with pliers.  So at five/six months pregnant, I had to go to a piercing place with my big old belly and get it out.  It was both hilarious and mordifying.
