Costco/BJs/Sams...are they really worth the savings?

We dont have a membership at any yet but I know people swear by these bulk stores for things like diapers/wipes/formula etc. Do you really save that much when compared to Amazon subscribe and save or something similar? Debating if with baby 2 coming we go this route. I am HOPING to have DS potty trained by spring/early summer so just have one in diapers, but you never know!

  • We had a Sam's membership for years, but just switched to Costco. I love the bulk shopping. Whenever I have extra grocery money, I go and stock up on things like meat or frozen items. I really like it.

Plus, our Costco has a gas station that offers members a discount on gas. $1.74 right now.

  • @DC2London‌ Aren't your kids nut allergic? How can they eat almonds? Genuinely curious. Why are almonds different?

  • We did the math, and for gas alone it was worth the membership, but my husband is commuting a little ways to work so we use a lot of gas. I am with everyone else here those and i prefer Costco to the others but we aren't close enough for me to make use of a membership anymore :(

  • Another vote for Costco. I'll be honest, I haven't do the math to see if I actually save money but if I was organized Im sure I would save. The reason I like Costco is for many of the same reasons DC listed.

  • We did a Costco membership, but I found we just weren't using enough food to make it worth it.  We moved to a different city last summer and we are by a Sam's now, but I'm not planning on getting a membership.  I've found that I can get much better prices by shopping sales at the grocery stores and just building a stockpile of food that I will replenish during the next sale.  I use Amazon Subscribe & Save for a majority of household products (TP, paper towels, trash bags, dog supplies, makeup, diapers, and wipes) and have found that I can get better prices that way.  Plus, I have a legitimate Amazon addiction, so the Prime membership definitely gets its use :) (MH was looking at some past orders and kindly told me I had placed 89 orders in the past 6 months and that I probably needed help :) )

  • If it's only for diapers, I'd stick with Amazon.  But going into Costco gives me the heebie-jeebies, so I have additional reasons for not going.

  • I bought milk at Costco last week for under $3 a gallon.  Just sayin...

But I also often browse their clothing and find other unnecessary things to buy, so it probably all evens out in the end.

This was my other concern!! Like am I going to be just buying things because they are there and they are in bulk so it "looks" like a good deal?  My husband is a sucker for that! if he has a coupon, he uses it, even if its nothing that we like or need. So funny. Ok thanks ladies!
