It's Monday--Where Is Everyone?

Re: It's Monday--Where Is Everyone?

  • @tinyhumantoe, reading your previous pregnancy experience makes my stomach knot up!
I want to thank all of my friends and family for having such respectful boundaries!!!

I am a people pleaser by nature, but I just let everyone know in a very upfront/not open for discussion way that I didn't want anyone to visit us in the hospital.I was only there for a day each time, so people didn't have to wait that long to meet the baby.

@BobKat22, I wish I could send you some lucky breaks! You need some!  Hope everything gets resolved a lot easier than expected.

I realize that my lack of a spine is responsible for most of my problems.  People are crazy, but how that affects me is up to me.

  • Okay, so I know someone mentioned this the other day, but how can you tell if your child is colorblind?  Luci says colors, but doesn't seem to associate them with an actual color.  i.e. - I ask her what color crayon she has and she shouts out a color but rarely is it correct.  I am thoroughly convinced that DH is colorblind, or has some variation, because he sees colors so differently.  Things that I think are blue, he says are green.  Same with red, pink, orange, etc.

Any way to tell at this point for sure?
It's pretty rare for girls to be color blind.  I also think it's a little early to worry about it.  She just might not be interested in them yet. :-)  I know there's these kinds of cards:

    image
if she knows her shapes, they might be a good idea to use!

Aedan goes through phases with his colors too.  Everything was pink for awhile.  He very often mixes up colors at this point.  Sometimes it's right.  Brody did the same thing at this age, and I have no concerns about his ability to see colors today.

If you're really worried, bring it up at your next pedi appointment.  They may even have those cards there to have her test them right away (our pedi does basic vision tests at 4, though I don't think they tested for color blindness).

  • I mentioned this the other day, but does anyone's LO have pretty bad breath?  We brush at least twice a day.  I use Tom's strawberry toothpaste with flouride, brush really well including her tongue, and she still has stinky breath.  I feel so bad for her and want to make it better, even though she doesn't really know yet.

One of my sisters had chronic bad breath growing up and it was heartbreaking because strangers would tell her she had stinky breath thinking she just needed to brush, but there was nothing she could do about it :(

Colorblindness mostly occurs in males. They can't really be tested until they're older when the tester can be pretty confident they should know all of their colors.

My in-laws were living in a different state, but I told my MIL that no one would be in the delivery room except MD, nurse, my husband, and I so they waited until we were settled at home before visiting with Lila.   With Cruz, my MIL was in isolation after receiving a stem cell transplant/chemo so traveling wasn't an option.

I wanted my mom there but we didn't call her until I was well into my labor, and she waited for my husband to go out and get her after Lila was born.  She was too busy taking care of Lila at home to be there when Cruz arrived, but brought her the next day per my request.

I did cheat and have my best friend come visit me right before I left the hospital with Lila, but it was on my terms.

For everyone else, family or friend, we told them we would arrange a time later to visit!

Is it new?  Or has it been that way for awhile?  When the boys get a really bad cold or an ear infection, I notice a change in their breath, which I think is from all the drainage.

Maybe switch to a minty flavored toothpaste?  Has she seen a dentist yet?  It would be good to get their thoughts.

    Hopefully it's just a phase...

Are either of your parents color blind? If not than the chances of Luci being color blind are very small as it is an x linked trait. There are many types of color blindness as well. (I know far too much about it because it runs in my family and I actually have two close female relatives who are colorblind and am a carrier.)

Does she have a cold? Breathing through your mouth can cause bad breath. I would also make her a dentist appt if she hasn't been yet.

  • Just catching up while I'm parked on the couch nursing and DH is handling Jack, Will and dinner.
I am biting my tongue bc this is so out of his league(cooking, first of all is not his thing, and managing the kids too). And by cooking I mean defrosting some turkey taco meat and making some Mexican Rice a Roni. But it's a lot for him :)

Also, Thx for the well wishes! We're home Will was super cute and excited to kiss Sam and hold him. Jack, not so much but he was the same way with Will and my niece this year. He needs to warm up a bit. I know it's his personality, but Still it makes me sad that we have no pics of the two of them when Will was born. Although, Jack did make up a song for Sam that he sang to him this afternoon.

On the topic of FB and posting pics, there have been a total of 0 pics of me and Sam posted (thank goodness). Both my sister, MIL and BIL posted pics of themselves with Sam from when they visited -I am fine with that.

  • Wow. Our pedi led us to believe that we shouldn't be concerned about color blindness with Maya because it's so rare in girls, even though DH is colorblind and 2 of his 5 brothers are colorblind. She isn't, but I guess we should have looked at it more carefully.
  • @amandad715 so nice to hear that Jack is excited about his little brother, and that you're home and seem to be adjusting so nicely to a family of 5!!!  Fingers crossed on a delicious dinner!

If color blindness is not on your side of the family there was little reason to worry, (girls need two x's with the abnormality to be color blind). There is however a 50/50 chance that her male children would be color blind. E would also only be able to inherit color blindness from you. There are a few other issues with color perception that are not considered color blindness that are not x linked.

Thanks to a false alarm and a stupid FB setup, people are starting to ask about baby girl's progress. Well, she's not due for another 12 days and I was a week late with CJ. I'm assuming induction will be February 1st if she's stubborn like CJ. 19 more days of questions doesn't sound fun. Speaking of boundaries, I have mentioned to DH not to call his parents until she's here. Then they can make the 2.5 hour drive if able/ready. He's not getting it. They were in the waiting room from 10 pm-330 am when I had CJ (he was born at 12:48 am). I don't want to rush us meeting her. Here's to hoping he respects my need for space.
DH called only his sister when I went to the hospital so she could pick up the dog. She was sworn to secrecy until DH called everyone after I had L. It was mostly for his own sanity in that all of my family had to travel and we didn't want them calling him every 10 minutes for an update.

  • We spent the weekend with DH's family. Sat night, my oldest nephew was warm and not feeling well. He still didn't feel very good Sunday morning. DD took a car nap on the hour+ drive home. She had a fever when she woke up. My mom watches her on Mondays anyway and when she still had a fever this afternoon, I called my SIL to check in with her. Nephew has strep and my niece has an ear infection. Awesome. DH is staying home tomorrow and she has a pedi appt in the morning. Last time, she had strep and a ruptured ear drum. Hopefully we can catch it a little sooner this time.

  • @jenndub‌ I was just looking at planners on erincondren. That is where my teacher planbook is from and I love it. My phone is just not cutting it between DH's work schedule, DD's speech schedule, OB appts, and everything else. DD isn't even in activities really yet. I can't imagine keeping your schedule without a paper planner.

  • @redneckmomma25‌ Good luck on your test! I failed the 1 hr last week. The nurse said 'slightly elevated'. I have to do the 3 hr on Thursday after eating a certain diet for 3 days. I feel like the diet is designed to make me fail, because it is way more carbs and sugar than I normally eat on my own (and I love carbs) and way less protein, etc. It says I can add whatever I want to it, but I'm too full to add more protein. It's probably to make sure my body handles them okay (I guess?). I also had to take a full day off work because even if I get there right when the lab opens and they are exactly on time the whole time, I would barely make it back before my kids came in from lunch. That's not accounting for it making me feel crummy and I'm guessing it will since the 1 hr did. I feel like I'm watching my pto tick away...

I have been making calls for the last two hours, I forgot how much I hate dealing with people.

I also found out that preschool registration opened on Saturday for the 2015/2016 school year, the class that DD 'needs' to be in only has 4 spots left, but I hate that I need to commit to a year long schedule that doesn't begin for more than 7 months, I'm not organized enough to have life planned this far in advance.
I'm freaking out about committing to a new daycare for DS' kindergarten year. I can't even imagine having to decide so early for preschool. The entire childcare/early education system needs a revamp to make it easier on parents.

And seriously to all the people posting pics on FB of new moms and their babies. WTF. Boundaries people. I intend to see my new niece/nephew as soon as bro and SIL are up for visitors, but it would never cross my mind to post anything on FB without their OK first.
Yes.  We're so lucky people in our family respect our boundaries.  Our visitors weren't allowed to post pics until we did and we didn't post anything until all the grandparents had met their grandsons.  That meant that it was over a day before a picture was posted, but that was our rule and everyone did a great job following.
My SIL totally announced Abby's arrival to FB world before I got a chance to write a thing. I didn't know it until like three hours later when I was getting a ton of FB notifications. I was pretty annoyed about it.
