holy balls that hurt. The techs, doc, and nurse were the best but I still got stabbed in the neck. I guess I have about 6 nodes and they took cells from the most dominant one. Six pokes to gather cells and my throat and neck hurt bad. I wont have results until wed/thurs and I will update then.

I'm still in shock that this is happening--I'm getting a large node on my thyroid biopsied today.

Backstory: since this summer I have had no appetite. I mentioned to my doc that this was bugging me and we tested my tsh which was normal. I mentioned it again this fall and he made a comment that my thyroid looked enlarged. But you know normal tsh, dont worry.

Well last month I went in for my annual pap and super close cycles (new periods every 9-12 days) my ob did further testing and an ultrasound on my thryoid. Turned out I had a low free t4 and many nodes and cysts on my thyroid. She said to follow up about the ultrasound with my PCP and to start taking levothyroxine for hypothyroidism. Sweet. Answers.

Wrong. So wrong. My pcp was very concerned and wanted to test me for hashimotos thyroiditis. He told me he hopes to God that it comes back positive. Not unnerving at all.

Friday I got a call from my doc directly. That never happens. He said he reread my ultrasound report 30 times and cant figure it out. I do not have hashis and I needed this node biopsied.

I neively thought that I could wait a few weeks and told him I'd schedule it. Newp. He said Monday afternoon I needed to be at the hospital and he was ordering the results STAT.

I found out I will be awake for the procedure and am scared shitless about the results. Can you spare some prayers, feelings, or good vibes for me?

T&Ps to you. My suggestion is to bring some music (if allowed) and determine a focal point in the room to look at or use guided imagery to keep your focus off of the procedure. Counting your breaths helps as well. Anything to keep calm.

If your fear is more diagnosis-based, don't worry about anything until you have to. Please keep us posted. I have a couple of friends who have been through this.

Nanda! Oh my goodness, you poor girl. Just keep in mind that at least the recovery is so much better when you don't have to go under. I know that is poor consolation and the rest of it is so scary anyway. All my bits are crossed for you, and I'm glad that you are getting checked out right away so you will have answers that much sooner. ((Hugs))

Good Luck today! If they are willing to inject lidocaine first for numbing (as long as you aren't allergic to it), I know it helped me get through it easier just as an FYI. Sending you positive and relaxing vibes.

I have had two biopsies on my thryroid. I ended up having to half of it removed. The biopsies do hurt, but are not horrible! Try and think of something distracting. In my case they used about 8 needles to do the biopsy. Take some tynlenol or ibprofen after for the soreness of the area. Prayers that everythign goes well for you!
