Preemies

How many 35 weekers were able to go home at your discharge time??

I am a newbie to this board but had twins 2 years ago at 33 weeks. They only spent 21 days in the nicu and that was really only feeding and growing. I am now 33 weeks pregnant and all the same signs of labor that started 2 weeks before they came are happening again!! I did just get a negative FFN, but with my last pregnancy I had a neg and they came 12 days later. So I am hopeful for at least 2 more weeks but 3-4 would be nice!! I am wondering how many of you guys had 35 weekers with minimal nicu stay?? Thank you!

Re: How many 35 weekers were able to go home at your discharge time??

  • Mine was a 32 weeker and stayed 10 days...but I read that a lot of late-term preemies were released and then had to go back and this article recommended that 35 weekers do not go home.  Both my kids had NICU time, and as long as it doesn't drag on, I don't mind having experienced eyes on them for a bit.
  • My daughter was 35 weeks and we were able to go home after 3 days with very close follow-up. No NICU time. We got super lucky!!!

  • Mine went home a day after I was discharged. However there can be many issues that keep them there. Needing oxygen some still do, blood sugar, feeding some are very sleepy suck swallow breathe coordination &also bilirubin levels. I think its a standard of 3 nights to test bilirubin & monitoring they still have to get carseat testing.

There's not a standard of 3 nights for bili testing. It all depends on the individual baby! Some never have bili problems, some do.

My daughter had glucose issues, bilirubin issues, and nursing issues - all super common with late pretermers.
  • My 36 weeker had iugr too and spent 2 weeks in nicu. We went home for about 2 weeks and he got RSV then we spent another week in the hospital.

  • My baby was 35-6 and was discharged with me. Spent first day in nicu. Good luck with everything
  • A friend had 35-0 twins one spent 8 hrs in the NICU then joined her on the PP floor and went home when she was discharged the other twin was discharged from the NICU the day after she was. She had a c-section late on a Fri so she went home on Wed.
  • My 3 yo was 35 weeks exactly and was able to go home after a one week Nicu stay.
