January 2015 Moms

I'm THAT Person!

Remember back in December '14 when one lady had her baby suddenly in her bath tub and we all went to read her crazy birth story?? Well turns out our little man was just dying to turn me into the January '15 version!

So here goes the events of yesterday!
- Woke up around 4 am to some minor contractions (for the 2nd day in a row) and they were about 10ish minutes apart
- Throughout the morning they got as close as 6-7 minutes apart, but around noon they died out a bit and were back to about 12 minutes apart for the majority of the afternoon and evening
- Around 5 pm DH was heading back out to the barn and asked me to check in with him at 7 so he could decide if he had to feed extra feed to the cows in case we were in the hospital overnight and he was unable to make it back at the normal feeding time. I told him I would but said to him that I probably didn't have any better answer for him at 7 then I did at 5. He replied with "a lot can happen in 2 hours!" And I reminded him that nothing could happen during those 2 hours
- I should mention that we were very secretive and told no one that I was in labour, but planned on calling my Grandma (DS's babysitter) around 9pm to tell her to just come spend the night so we could head to the hospital any time through the night.
- At 5:30ish Contractions were still 10+ minutes apart so I was nonchalantly texting my sister about supper and discussing what we were having
- Around 5:45 (When the sun went down) things drastically changed and I suddenly was having contractions just over 3 minutes apart :s eek!!
- after timing them for just over a half an hour (in hindsight I waited too long) I called my midwife and texted DH to call my Grandma
- I also texted DH to come in asap, but being a typical man/farmer he did not read the text as urgent so he was taking his time.
- At 6:45 still no one was here and I had the urge to push (holy shit!!)
- I was planning a hospital birth so I had nothing prepared for this kind of action so remembering the D'14 post, I headed upstairs to my bathtub!
- I barely had time to get my pants and socks off and I NEEDED to push again!
- I could feel the baby was on the way out so I called DH in a panic/frantic tone to run and informed him where I was
- He ran in the house around 6:50, and was stunned of course
- I told him the baby was coming and he needed to catch him!!
- after maybe three pushes while DH was there, Rhys made a screaming entrance completely catching all parties off guard!
- My midwife arrived about 2 minutes later, just long enough for DH to get a towel to wrap up the baby!
- Holy Hell
- I was aiming for a med-free birth, but not quite like that
- Everyone is healthy and I had no complications (last time I had somewhat of a serious bleed after delivery which is why I would never have planned a home birth)
- I'm still trying to wrap my head around the whole thing!! Turns out things really can go from zero to sixty!

On the bright side, we didn't have to spend any time in the hospital!

Here's a picture of DS "meeting" Rhys for the first time!
