I have somehow never had the flu before and this is really knocking me on my butt. I haven't eaten in three days. Even drinking water is now painful. I feel to weak to care for myself and now my kids wake up sick too.
My dr wanted me to go to the ER yesterday but it was blizzarding and I live 20 miles outside of town. Right now I'm just waiting for my husband to get home to take me in.
For those of you who have had the flu while pregnant how did you deal? Anything help, I can't seem to get any relief no matter what I do.
Typically if you catch it within the first 48 hours they will give you Tamiflu, after that time frame you just have to stay hydrated and ride it out. Feel better!
I just got over a three day flu my doctor basically side eyed me over not wanting to get flu shot but the only one I've ever gotten made me shit my pants at work. That being said I only puked once from it and that's what made me feel better. Not much help I know but feel better!! I'm praying for you!
I'm just getting over a bad virus (they ruled out the flu) but I can't imagine feeling any worse. I had a fever, chills aches. I'll be sending you prayers and good vibes! Take care girly! Xoxo
That sounds miserable. The hospital is probably the best place to make sure that you're hydrated and cared for, but I know that must be very stressful with 3 kids as well. I hope you feel better soon!
I'm so sorry. I had this over new years and it sucked! I ended up in the ER too. They will most likely give you fluids, which will help a little. Other than that, you just need to ride it out and remember you'll feel better soon. Also, I ran my humidifier on high the whole time. That helped a tiny bit too.
@Jessica16393 the "flu" is short for the influenza virus. This infection primarily consists of a high fever, extreme fatigue, runny nose, sore throat, cough, and terrible body aches. A common misconception is that a stomach virus involving diarrhea &/or vomiting is the flu when it's most likely a different type of infection altogether.
I had the stomach flu 2 weeks ago! That was horrible! I hope you feel better. They might not be able to give you anything since you've been sick so long, but they should be able to give the kids Tamiflu. Hope everyone is better soon.
Thanks for clarifying. I've always just thought it was one and the same. I've never been to Dr for being sick before. Maybe once as kid for strep but my mom did home remedies with us so I've never had it explained before
Hope you feel better soon. I've had the flu this past week (like actual influenza flu), and was coughing so hard it was making me vomit. Then I ended up with bronchitis on top of it (I have a bit of asthma, so that tends to happen to me a lot).
They gave me tamiflu and robitussin for the cough, plus an albuterol inhaler. I got a z-pack for the bronchitis and a nebulizer to do breathing treatments at home. Today I'm finally starting to feel better, but of course now I'm worried over all these meds I've had to take. Hoping everything looks ok at the OB on Wednesday.
I have the flu right now I've been sick since Monday ewith a high fever, Wednesday afternoon got sent home from work and went to urgent care. They tried to give me tamiflu but i refused it bc its a category C drug and not proven safe for pregnan women and actually proven harmful when tested on animals. All it does is shorten the amount of time your sick but from what I'veread from other expecting ladies that have taken it, iit's made them worse. Glad i refused it even though they got a little upset. They took me out of work and I'll be going back in on Monday. My fever has gone down and the worst case scenario they said if its not under 100 by today to go into the ER. So hopefully you'll feel better, drink lots of fluids!
In reality there is no such thing as the stomach flu.. If it's stomach related its a different virus than influenza, although sick is sick and not fun! Feel better
Just got back from the ER baby is good! Which I was worried about since my uterus has been so achy and crampy. And I'm a worrier. And I do in fact have the flu. They told me that everyone at normal risk gets tamiflu within 48 hours but for high risk people (young, old, and pregnant) it can be given up to 72 hours.
Between all of your sweet comments and one of my friends texting me to say she will be over in a bit with chicken noodle soup, I'm feeling like one loved lady right now. Thank you all!
