Have You Installed the Car Seat?

edited January 2015 in February 2015 Moms
I feel like this entire pregnancy has just blown by, and here I am at 34 weeks with not a lot done.

Anywho, DH and I were talking the other night, and I mentioned that we should probably think about putting the seat in my car. He balked and thinks it's too early to be thinking about it, and asked why I'd want to drive around with an empty car seat for 6 weeks.

Yep! You're woefully behind the times. We're ready to go, and I'm judging your lack of preparedness.

Re: Have You Installed the Car Seat?

  • I chose 'This Weekend' though I'm not sure if it'll be exactly this weekend. But soon! Sooner than February.

  • Mine is installed, but I'm nearly 3 weeks ahead of you. We just installed ours this past Tuesday at 36 weeks. So I'm gonna vote SS because I don't want you to feel behind :)

  • I will probably install sometime around Valentine's Day since baby isn't due until February 26
  • I voted this weekend. We have had the infant carrier installed for a year for dd. We installed the convertible for her yesterday and plan to use her infant carrier for the new baby. I think we're going to have them checked this weekend.
  • This weekend was the plan! Hope it goes well. It is a huge check mark off my list!

  • I don't even have a car seat :-SS
  • I should probably clean mine, since it's been used for my other kids but I was just planning to toss it in the back of the van when we head to the hospital. I did, at least, check to make sure it wasn't expired. It's not but this will be the last kid we can use it for (IF we have any more). With DD1 we installed it weeks early. With DD2 we just brought it to the hospital with us and DH installed it before we were discharged. We're going with that plan this time around. It only takes a couple minutes to install.

  • I said this weekend but honestly my plan is to get it installed next weekend and have it checked early the following week. This weekend the goal is to get the car squeaky clean, it's not bad but the dog hair has accumulated!
Love is like infinity: You can't have more or less infinity, and you can't compare two things to see if they're "equally infinite." Infinity just is, and that's the way I think love is, too.

  • Mine has been installed, however with the amount of preggo brain I've been having I needed a few tries to get the hang of it.

  • DH will probably install it after I'm admitted. We don't need it until then, anyway.

  • Keep meaning to do this. DH needs to clean his car :(
  • Ours was literally just delivered 30 minutes ago...so sometime in the next couple weeks!

  • We haven't even selected and purchased ours yet! ...Ooops!
  • We were going to install ours this weekend but since we were in the wreck last week we are down to DH truck. I dont know what we will be doing at the moment. Genius me didn't get car rental coverage when I did the insurance on the car.
  • DH has been on my case about installing the seat, I guess we should get it done.

  • I voted SS! I plan on installing it the first week of February! I still have client's who drive in my car and I don't want to put it in to soon.
  • I don't think you are woefully behind the times. Don't fret! But yes, we did install ours last week simply bc I was very excited to install it!

  • I'll probably install sometime next week. I'll be 37 weeks next week though.

We did get it down from storage though so that counts for something I suppose!

  • I have a RSC so honestly I won't install the car seat till the night before we head to the hospital and hope he doesn't decide to come before then. I should probably try installing it before then to see if two car seats and a booster fit in my back seat. It will be a tight fit!
  • I'm not waiting till contractions but probably once I know there is some progress down there! It's been so friggen cold and we don't have a garage, so no sense in spending time in the frigged cold for something we don't need yet. And we will just do base for now. Also where do you get it checked at? I thought they did that before they let you leave the hospital?
  • Got them installed and checked at the health department today!  Woohoo!

Check with your hospital. Mine does car seat checks by request but I don't think all hospitals do. You can also take it by any fire dept in my town and have it checked. Not sure if that's the same everywhere though.

  • We have to move DS' car seat and switch him to forward facing (he is two) in order to fit both seats in our car. So, we will be installing the new baby's seat at the last possible minute.

  • 35w & still need to get ours! Hopefully by 36w!
  • I don't plan on installing it yet as I don't know what vehicle baby will come home in (possibly a truck do to weather), but the permanent installation will be in my car.

  • What? Baby needs a car seat!?!? This is news to me!

SS. No idea when we will do that.
  • I actually just set ours by the door along with hospital bag, diaper bag, breast pump, and camera case. Told hubby we need to install it soon. 37 weeks on Sunday.
  • SS here...

I'm 37 weeks and haven't installed it yet.

I also haven't packed my hospital bag.

Or gotten the newborn clothes down from the attic....

...or finished the hospital door hanger.

Man! I am behind! But I've got a 19 month old with RSV. Not much gets done with a sick toddler. RSV is intense y'all.

    Edit- spelling

We are in the same boat...minus the 19 month old. I haven't even bought the car seat nor packed the hospital bag. At the rate we are going, I'll probably be giving my mom my debit card and having her go buy one when I go into labor.
  • @kbelly777‌ I'm in the same boat- 36 weeks on Sunday and feeling like there's still tons to do, but no drive to do so. Also- RSV is super intense!! T & Ps to your LO!

  • We will install it the weekend before my scheduled c section. So, the last weekend in January. If I go into labor, my husband will just pop it in. It's all washed and ready to go, we just need to put the base in. This is our third so he is pretty good at it!
  • I read the manual and installed it in my car last weekend. We had to take it out of the car when my husband needed to use my car while his truck was in the shop. I feel a lot more comfortable now that I at least know how it needs to be installed instead of not having a clue about installation.

  • We'll probably wait till the last minute to install, but this is our 2nd so we're very familiar with the seat and its installation. If we weren't, we'd be installing it a few weeks in advance. Probably not this early, though.
  • SS - I think DH will install it while I'm in the hospital after giving birth. We have installed and moved car seats between vehicles enough that I fully trust he can do it right. This weekend I'll probably make sure it's clean and ready with the straps lowered, infant insert in place, and shower cap cover nearby.

  • SS. I have to completely rearrange ALL the car seats in our 15-passenger van. It's too cold. Next weekend is looking to be 30 degrees warmer. I'm hoping and praying that is the case, and if it is I'll do it all then.
  • I will be 37 weeks on sunday. We haven't installed the car seat yet, I haven't packed a hospital bag, the nursery is painted but not together, the bassinet isn't together, I haven't prepared any frozen meals, ect... I think your fine :)
  • Nope, waiting until the last minute. I'm so paranoid we'll get in an accident prior to birth and it'll be unusable before he even gets here!
  • SS here. We have a car seat but no car! We will likely be taking a cab to and from the hospital.
  • 36 weeks today and I voted this weekend but we will be installing the base this week when it stops raining here. After getting it checked by an expert, the actual infant seat will stay home in case of a car accident in these remaining weeks.
Take a deep breath, you have plenty of time :)
