Hey ladies im just short of 30 weeks and up until this point i was against getting the flu shot (personal reasons). I was required to get one for my upcoming CNA course and so i wemt ahead and got it. My mother whos an RN freaked when i told her that i got it. To my knowledge it is recommended that pregnant women get the shot, am i mistaken? All most all the women being seen in my OB clinic (women ive talked to anyway) have gotten the shot. Guess im just freaking a little any soothing advice would be nice.
Re: opinions on flu shot?
Another RN here, all I can say is WTF to your mom's reaction and you know the answer to your question, if you were that concerned beforehand you should have researched or talked to your OB.
For suzyq0525
Getting flu shot = Smart
Not getting flu shot = Stupid
I can't! Make it stop! I can't unseen that! Haha.

Internet stranger, I refuse to believe that you are honestly too stupid to grasp the concept that pregnancy compromises your immune system. I really do. It's something a 4 year old would find easy, so I think your ability to log onto a computer proves you are at least as intelligent as a 4 year old.
Buuuuut, guess what? It's no longer just about me, so that kind of thinking went out the friggin door.
I wouldn't be able to forgive myself if I continued the trend of not getting the flu shot and then managed to catch the flu for the first time in my life.
If I can help prevent hurting my daughter, I will.

FTR, my DH coaches Highschool basketball. His entire team, including the head coach got laid out by the flu before Christmas. DH and DD had the sniffles and a cough, and I escaped with pretty much nothing. All three of us got the flu shot this year. No brainer.
Why the fuck do these people only come out to say stupid shit?
I was scared to get it because whatever he's allergic to or has a reaction to, I've followed in his footsteps. Thankfully, I put the worries aside and ended up with no adverse reactions. Whew!
Glad you still got the family hooked up!

Whenever people say 'I've never ...." My dad always uses the same (kinda lame) joke,
"you know what the farmer said when his horse died?"
"No, what?"
"He never did that before"
There is a first time for everything people! Do you really want your first flu to happen when you're pregnant?
Not sure if your OB would say the benefits outweigh the risk.
