UNPOPULAR OPINIONS!

Re: UNPOPULAR OPINIONS!

  • Apparently my UO is following my doctor's four-week month count for pregnancy, based on lunar months! Outside the US (and even within it), many people and cultures use this method.

  • I like maternity photos where the woman has a bare bump/is nude but covering private parts. It has to be tasteful though, I have seen bad quality ones that look bad. I think it's beautiful and sweet. (The tasteful, good quality ones)
Ohh no no no. Definitely an unpopular opinion. I don't think the words "tasteful" and "nude maternity photos" belong in the same sentence... Unless the word NOT is also involved.

Yeah IMO, nude/half nude pregnancy photos are just not for the public eye.

I know one woman who did a maternity shoot in a bandeau and giant tutu-like skirt. If it isn't a cute outfit when you aren't pregnant, it's not a cute outfit when you have a bare pregnant belly either. She also posted pictures in lingerie--which, okay do them for your husband, but don't post them on facebook for the whole world including your parents and siblings to see.

I know another woman who did a maternity shoot in a bandeau and skirt and her boyfriend and son were in a lot of the pics without shirts on either. Why did they need to take their shirts off too??

  • I love the leggings I picked up from Blush Maternity. They are so comfy and only cost $6 on Black Friday. Don't get how it says they could possibly be one size fits all though...

My UO is that I have no interest in going to Chick-fil-a. Plus the thought of most chicken dishes make me want to hurl anymore.

  • @vintagevixenmommy I got a pair of leggings from pink blush maternity on black Friday too and I love them! Wish I had bought more than one pair because now they're like $20.

I bought 3 pair - yellow, black, and charcoal!

  • As far as the fleece lined leggings go, I found some nice ones at sirens (is that store in the US too?). I wasn't a huge fan of leggings as pants in the past, but now that I'm in between regular pants not fitting and being too small still for maternity clothes, leggings have really grown on me lately
  • saamb said:
I love leggings and agree wholeheartedly with @Schnurette‌ . I wore them prepregnancy, wear them now and I will continue to do so post-pregnancy. I have cotton ones that are not see through, fleece lined that are amazing because I live in Michigan and footless tights in which I always cover my ass. No to nude pregnancy photos. My UO... I dislike Taylor Swift and her music. I respect her philanthropic ways and the 'good' she does, but I could go the rest of my life without hearing her sing about a broken heart, or dance to Shake It Off.

I can't stand Taylor Swift either!! Even seeing her face makes me irrationally angry.. My UO: 3D ultrasound pictures creep me out..
    Yes! You're not alone!
  • UO- oral sex is gross. Giving or receiving gross, gross, gross. Luckily my dh was fine with this when we started dating. Obviously, we were meant to be!

  • Mine is what I should and shouldn't be wearing. I upped my jean size instead buying maternity pants, and this seems to bother everyone...

I do the same thing! :D I might break down eventually though....lol

I hate when I tell people I want to do cloth diapering and they immediately start on a rant about how disgusting and terrible it is and how they hate it and how i will hate it too.

just let me do my own thing!

Plus, the more they bitch about it the more I want to do it. :D

This is why I've stopped telling people I'm planning to try. EVERYONE insists that it's disgusting, and I'll want a service at the very least, and how I really have no idea what I'm getting in to....

Everyone just needs to take a chill pill.

Cloth diapering is not gross. I've been using cloth for 21 months on my son. If people have never tried it, they shouldn't give opinions on it. Cloth is better for the baby's skin, the environment and it is so much cheaper! Also, you're actually suppose to shake poop out of disposables and into the toilet before you dispose of them. They are technically a biohazard if you don't. No worse than what you do with cloth.

My UO: I can't stand Gilmore Girls. I watched the entire series, gritting my teeth the entire time. What a couple of whiny, bitchy women. Am I the only one?

  • In the cloth diapering front I support people who can do it but couldn't afford to start with my son. I wanted to try this time but we will see. Also ladies disposable diapers were not invented until like the 60's (don't quote me because I don't know for sure) the fact is, your grandma's didn't have cloth diapers and everyone survived!

@staciecoffey‌ I don't know where you live but "Ross (dress for less ) always has maternity fleece lined leggings. They have absolutely nothing else useful in the maternity section but always have an entire rack of those leggings . (Guess they are on to something actually since we mostly are all in agreement of how comfy they are)

ETA: and they are always under 9.00

My UO: I don't find men in uniform attractive.

Me either. As a cop I wear a uniform every day and I work with 195 men and 29 women. I've never found the uniform to be flattering on any one of us... I don't get the attraction.

I don't understand women who dread maternity clothes. I was so fucking excited to wear pants with no waistband and have an excuse to wear leggings and tunics again. I'm all about being comfortable and nothing beats feeling like you're in sweats all the time. And no one can say a damn word about it because you're pregnant. I was seriously sad when I had to put them away after DD and start messing with buttons and zippers again.
My mom actually said "You're so lucky!  You actually have maternity stores, when I was pregnant there were basically gross tent looking things ordered from the Sears catalog."  I hadn't really considered it to be honest.
My mom was so jealous of my maternity jeans. She said the only thing available to her was mumus, She ended up making her own maternity pants using jeans from the thrift store and elastic material from the fabric store. I did not inherit her sewing skills.

  • I can't stand it when people actually take horoscopes/star signs seriously. I can't tell you how many times I have been asked what my sign is. The other day at work my boss told me I was going to have my hands full with a June Gemini baby girl and then in detail explained to me how Gemini men are ok but not Gemini women and I wanted to ask her how the hell she became a Vice President of a company with this many brain cells missing.

  • @meg.eliz1 Did you have to convince your husband of the photographer or was he totally on board? Mine thinks it will be creepy to have a stranger in the room like that, but it means a lot to me, so I'm trying to think of the best way to make it his idea. :grinning:

  • Great opinions on this thread.

    3D Ultrasounds are super creepy.
Nobody wants to see your naked maternity photos and I don't need any photos from the delivery room except one of me holding my freshly bathed newborn.

My UO: I don't really like the Walking Dead. I'm caught up on current episodes only because I basically fast forwarded through the last season 1/2. I get bored with all the walker fight scenes.

This isn't exactly an opinion as much as it as a behavior I suppose. I typically only wash my hair once a week. Well.. Yesterday in the shower I realized I hadn't washed it since Christmas Eve. Woops.

I'm the same, sometimes if i'm lazy it's definitely longer. Washing my hair is the bane of my existence. And no, our hair isn't smelly or particularly greasy. If you keep the routine your hair adapts. Also I dye my hair red so it keeps my color from facing too much.

  • @MisDawnD‌ we have Ross but ours sucks big time!! Plus some of the patterns are a little too bold for me. I'm a total chicken shit when it comes to being creative with outfits. Currently, white t, scarf, jeans and boots and if I'm really feeling sassy, the leg warmers that peak outside of your boot.

@veggiemo‌, @ooopswediditagain‌, I wouldn't say the uniform itself is attractive but knowing that someone is willing to lay down their life in order to protect mine is what I find attractive. I have so many cops/military men in my family and close friends and to me they are all super heroes and it makes me tear up thinking about it because they don't get the respect the deserve...(steps down from soap box)

I'm having a hard time with everyone trying to convince me pregnancy is such a beautiful experience... What's pretty about being gassy all the damn time, acne EVERYWHERE! Crazy mood swings, not being able to eat enough, swollen body parts and waddling? The only thing beautiful so far have been the ultrasounds, the little kicks and ultimately when I get to hold my son for the first time.

THIS! My bff/SIL fought purchasing maternity pants until she was 8 months. She just did the hair tie trick the entire time. Granted she really wasn't noticeably pregnant to the world until then. She went from looking a little chubby to having a big popped round 8month belly literally over the course of maybe a week, two tops. But still. As soon as my jeans got tight in the waist I was like "GIMMIE alllllll the comfy things!" I could not imagine resisting these glorious creations.
I just want to clarify that I don't "dread" maternity clothes. I have a whole closet full from DS. I've also been wearing maternity shirts since week 10- FFFC: some were still in rotation from DS who's almost 2.

I LOVE maternity clothes, but for some reason this time around I find maternity pants so freaking uncomfortable. They literally make my skin crawl, like it feels like bugs everywhere. I understand it's weird, and I can't explain it. But I am not anti-maternity clothes (and am not an ungrateful wanker considering the options available to our mothers)

I guess it's not just the uniform for me. First, I completely respect, honor and idolize those who protect our county. I could never do it myself. However, I just don't have an attraction to that type of heroism, I guess. What turns me on is a heated attorney arguing for their client in a hot button up shirt with a tie. It's just my thing. I have cops/military in my family, and maybe that's why; I see them more as brother-types who are loyal and tough. But not sexy. To me. No offense to anyone out there in the protective services!!

My UO is that some people in this millennial generation drives me NUTS(!!!!!!) with their appointment booking demands. They call, text, email, message at ALL HOURS of the day, all week long, and always want an appointment RIGHT NOW(!!) ( Um, it's 8pm on a Sunday night, and no I am not open 7 days a week 24 hours a day. And yes, I do have other clients and other bookings as well! This is not McDonald's drive through emergency facial/bikini wax station. ). Then, they book the appointment and change it 3-4 times, many times at the last minute when I've already gotten to work and made the effort to be there for them at their requested (demanded) unusual time. (Or they just don't show up at all) Ugh!!!!!!

Sorry for the crazy rant but seriously?!?! I have way too many clients like this lately! I am all for extending myself in the name of good business and doing what I can for my clients and fulfilling their needs, but I just find that so many early twenty-something's are unreasonable with their demands and their belief that everything and everyone exists for them, the moment they have a whim of desire for it!

Ahhhhhh I feel better! I'm truly sorry if I've offended anyone! I don't even know if half of these people realize their behavior is rude and unreal. I also know that not all younger adults are like this, but I can't believe how many are!

ETA: I feel badly exploding like this but my last 3 interactions have been a little nuts. And also to be a little less assholish. I feel rude myself, so I want to add that this is ONLY toward those who do this crap. There are plenty of wonderful people who don't act like this!
  • @veggiemo‌ this made me giggle! Because lawyers do nothing for me. I guess I live in such a small city that cops/firefighters/military is as sexy as it gets. Our lawyers are old and crotchety!

Out of curiostiy... how old are you? The "millennial generation" is generally comprised of anyone born from the early 80's to the early 2000's.

I tend to 100% agree with you regarding "young people these days", but I hate the general grouping the millennial generation as being entitled twats, because lots of us are late twenties/early 30s professionals, actively contributing to society.

But I also think it's just cyclical.. boomers hate the gen x-ers, gen x'ers hate the millenials, millenials will hate "gen Z" (our kids...) but somehow the world continues to move forward and progress.

@mamahawk12‌ I definitely don't mean to group! I completely believe that many people are great and generalizations are crappy--so I don't mean to do that here, just pointing out that I've noticed it is mostly (almost always) a person in their twenties (esp early twenties) who behaves this way while booking with me. They certainly don't all do it. I didn't mean to come across that way.

I'm 36, was born in 78. I do notice a trend in behavior that never used to be, especially with everything being so immediate and convenient. I totally don't mean to be an ass and throw everyone under the bus, but the select few are just unbelievable to me. I know plenty of people work hard and respect others. Things are just different today, and there are a lot more "I want what I want right now" kinds of people who don't seem to realize that their actions affect others. Older people can be that way, too, you are right that it's not cool to generalize.

ETA: I edited my original post to be a little less assholish lol. Was just pissed because I had just left in the snow to accommodate someone, and she canceled on me last minute (she just booked the apt this morning!) and this has been such an issue for me lately I kind of blew up.

Lol, not assholish at all! It's just a generalization I see a lot so I may be hyper sensitive to it. If I see someone share one more facebook article about how millennials are ruining the world, I'm going to stab someone. But I definitely see a huge disconnect between people my age (later twenties-early thirties) and the younger millennials. Hopefully they'll all grow up to be less jerk-ish!

EUGH I don't need to see that
    :-&
  • I'm going to pipe in one the millennials, as I am one. I'm 23 and I totally agree that a lot of people my age are very demanding and inconsiderate. It pisses me off because than people make me out to be the same way( I strive very hard not to be). I honestly think a lot of it has to with how we were raised, our work ethic, and how much we indulge ourselves. Things have just become so readily available due to today's technology that people think everything should be that way.
  • I guess we are all used to having so much at our fingertips! And so much of it does have to do with well meaning parents who have given so much to their kids to protect them from the pain or suffering they felt they endured. Like @mamahawk12‌ mentioned, it is all very cyclical. It'll be good to find a balance.
  • @finchfeeder80‌ it's not too being super small that makes get mistaken for a 16 year old as it is being 5'2" and having a baby face.
I have a baby face, too. Everyone still thinks I'm in my 20's. My mother gave me some awesome genes, because she certainly doesn't look 61!
=======Mobile quote fail======= Late to the "i look like a child" party, but my 26th birthday is next month and I was recently carded to go to an R rated movie. Truth.
I was carded for buying an M rated video game when I was 28. Yeah, I'm totally in it for the cartoon boobs. I made sure to pay with my credit card.

Then a few months before I got pregnant, a woman who had recently graduated from the school I attended came in my workplace to shadow me for a day. We were making small talk at the end of the day, she said it was a challenge to finish school with two young kids, and I said that DH and I were hoping to start a family soon since I was now steadily employed.

"You're so young! You have plenty of time, don't rush!"
    "I'm 30."
    "...Oh."

Lastly (that I can think of now), not long after that, I went to do a job at one of the town offices in the county. I had to go to the bathroom, so the receptionist pointed me in the direction of the break room, where there were restrooms in the back. I politely nodded to the people eating their lunch in there, did my thing, and when I came back through the break room, one woman stopped me and said "I'm sorry, I just have to ask - which department are you from, because you really don't look old enough to work here?"

"I'm the stenographer for a deposition in the law department. Also, I'm 30, but thanks."

Ah, we'll all appreciate this one day. Or having kids will give us gray hair, could go either way. ;)

  • It bothers me when people tell me " oh that dog you love so much is going to just becomes a dog." I get it and understand the odds are good but don't tell me how I will feel - ie I will want to give it away and/or out it to sleep!! I used to think this until I owned a pair. They are hands down the comfiest boots I have ever owned and so long lasting! I love them
Without a doubt, they make Michigan winters a little more bearable. I know they are ugly but I don't care. Warmth. And you don't need to wear them with socks, so I just switch directly to my pumps when I get to work. Well, actually, I switch to my Ugg slippers and my pumps just sit under my desk most of the day...
