Re: Any May Mommies?

  • Evenstar2 I fit 1/2 of the bill. :)  I live in greater Decatur, but am not due until July 2015.
  • Close enough! ;-)  Do you know if you are having a boy or a girl yet?  Are you planning on delivering at Northside?

  • I've got half your requirements too. In the area, but my LO is 6 months old. FWIW, I delivered at Northside both times.
  • I'm in Atlanta due May 26, delivering at Emory.
  • @jnnfrrose6 How did you like Northside? This is my first and that's where I'll be delivering.

@Sab321 I'm due May 25. :-) Congratulations!  Is this your first? Do you know whether you are having a boy or a girl?

  • @Evenstar2‌ I like the fact that it's a bit of a "baby factory." If something is going to happen, I want the people caring for my baby and me to have seen it before and be able to handle it. Of course, that's worst case scenario thinking, but I'd rather be prepared. I had c-sections for both deliveries, so my experience is skewed toward that and my recovery, but I thought it was good. My first c-section wasn't planned and I was in labor when I got to the hospital, but quickly had to switch gears when the midwife found DS was breech. Everyone seemed on top of it and getting us prepared and ready for a new birth plan. I was hoping for vbac this last time, but my fluids got low around DD, so I had 24 hours warning on that one.
I did have to spend a night at Northside a week before DD was born for monitoring and that was pretty rough, though. They gave me a windowless room that was pretty bare bones/mediocre. Most rooms have been renovated, but that one wasn't. They couldn't feed me after midnight in case my levels didn't go up and a c-section would be necessary, but they didn't tell me that so I didn't eat much that night expecting DH to bring me breakfast and was starving when they finally came around noon to check my levels (which did go up, but then went down a few days later at my follow up with the midwife).
I will also add that where ever you end up, be sure to be your own advocate, or have someone there for you that can be. I had an LC visit me after DS was born and she pushed me to pump almost immediately. I didn't really like her bedside manner, but didn't know if it was just me having a hard time with it all or something else. The following day a different LC came and it was so much better. She was helpful, listened to my challenges, and really supported and help me make it work. If you find that someone comes to you that isn't a good fit, ask for someone else. Second opinions can be a good thing.
  • Thanks!  I felt comfortable about Northside  because of the "baby factory" vibe - since I haven't done it before, being at a place where everyone else has done and seen pretty much everything makes me feel better!  Plus, that's where my OB delivers.  Thanks for sharing your experiences. :-)

  • @Evenstar2, yes my first child and its a boy!! Congratulations to you too, good luck! Memorial Day babies :)
  • @Evenstar2‌ I don't know what I'm having yet! :( but I plan on delivering at Dekalb Medical. I can literally walk there and my OB prefers Dekalb. Good luck to you in May!
  • @sab321 Congratulations!  Have you picked a name yet?  It's so hard trying to pick the perfect girl's name!  I've got her middle name - Rose Marie (after my Mom) but still struggling with the first name.  What do you think about Calliope?

@nsanderson0313 I live pretty near DeKalb Medical myself, just off of North Avondale.  Are you planning on taking any childbirth classes there?

  • @Evenstar2 yep I am.  I need to do some research on their website to see when the classes are offered.  We're on Sycamore, I walked down to my appointment today at Atlanta Fetal Medicine which.  I have stupid health insurance so I have to go to a "specialist" for ultrasounds - BCBS of GA is ridiculous.  I'm happy that I can walk right over though.
  • @Evenstar2‌ one of my friends has a daughter named Calliope, I think it's a beautiful name! We are thinking of August or Arlo for boy names... For some reason both liking the A's.
  • Thanks! I really like it.  I like August & Arlo as well.  It's so hard trying to pick the perfect name!
