  • @Beachy730 there also ends up being a lot of repeat I've noticed.  All the people with the same date have a lot of the same answers, which gets a little boring.

Yeah, that's true. It's nice when it's time for a/s or things and everyone is similar, but other than that lots of repeat. I don't really read or participate in this one, but people seem to like it this way.

I'm not a fan of the ticker change threads, because there is a 4-5 week difference in the women in there. On DS' BMB we did check ins once a week by due date, and I think it was like the 1st-7th, 8th, 14th, etc. Then at least you were with people at the same stage as you. There's a lot of differences in 4-5 weeks of pregnancy.

Yeah I like how we did that. It was better for people to relate more and who were having things done around the same time.

I really like that idea of doing it by week.  What does it take to change?

I judge the shit out of people who go to Starbucks and order cold drinks on ice. It's literally like 3 gulps of liquid in a $7 cup of ice. At least get blended so you can enjoy the entirety of the beverage.

In my defense, I get iced coffee and a large one is only $3.  They have THE best iced coffee and I can't replicate it.  I've tried multiple times.  Don't judge me to harshly  :(

@tla0623‌ What brewing methods have you tried?
    image
  • Maybe an UO: DD iced coffee is by far superior to Starbucks, or any other brand for that matter.
Our Starbucks is inside a Target and is incredibly hard to get to. I prefer McDonald's or Kwik Trip coffee in the morning. :)

Absolutely! I nevvvvvvver go to Starbucks, Dunkin has my heart. This morning it was 8 degrees and you better believe I got my iced coffee! They're only $1 right now for any size so that helps too :)

@amc2511  I've tried a few different types of coffee and I usually brew it stronger than normal because it will be over ice.  I don't love Starbucks' hot coffee, I just like their iced.  I'm not sure what type they even use...  Do you have recommendations?

@tla0623‌ I'm not sure exactly how Starbucks makes theirs, but I worked at an independently owned coffee shop when I was in college, and we made iced coffee that was roughly comparable to what they serve at Starbucks. We used light to medium roast coffee (typically beans from Brazil or Colombia, and freshly roasted within the past week), ground the beans immediately before brewing, and used a LOT of coffee in relation to the amount of water. I'm not sure what the exact measurements would be for smaller-scale brewing at home, but we would use almost 1/4 pound of coffee per approximately 2 liters of water (but we would only run 1 liter through the brew basket at a time, let it drip through, then add the other liter). After brewing, we would chill the coffee in the fridge for at least 6-8 hours before pouring it over ice. Chilling the coffee after brewing is crucial, otherwise the hot coffee will melt the ice and the flavor will be diluted.

  • I have never been to Dunkin donuts even though we have one like 5 mins away. I do like Starbucks though.

  • I think Starbucks adds something to their stuff...it's addictive! Dunkin is too weak tasting for me.

My UO: I have zero interest in Disney. I am friends with quite a few Disney Freaks (people who go 3-4 times a year and are All about it) and they make me even less interested in ever going. My poor kids will never experience Disney with their parents.

In the twin cities, we don't have any Dunkins, although I think there's one in Duluth? Donut chains never seem to make it in MN (RIP Krispie Kreme). I got to experience them for the first time when visiting Chicago a bit ago. Love 'em!

  • I was really confused by the whole "America runs on Dunkin'" campaign, because at the time I lived in OKC and I think there was ONE, brand-new DD somewhere in the city.

Then I moved to DC and it all made sense. Ah, I miss DC.

Lol I live in DC and I hate it. I hate the huge city, I feel most people here act like entitled you know what, and the cost of living is ridiculous

Fortunately husband agreed prior to us getting pregnant that we would move back home before the baby starts kindergarten. Now I have a countdown

  • I completely agree @CALEO.

My UO, because of the coffee chatter- Starbucks is so flipping overrated. Paying almost $4 for a small latte?? Um no thanks.

@Beachy730 I totally agree. I hate when mom's get all "but it's elective surgery" with me. My OB is 90% sure a baby will never make it out vaginally, last time my CS was an emergency after 2.5 hours of hard labor, I'll take RCS for sure this time thank you very much.
Agree. My thinking is if you had a CS the first time around unless it was for like a breech or maybe multiples why would you try and torture yourself through labor when it could end in a RCS? I also like the whole here is the day and time to be here and we will deliver the baby. Makes planning so much easier. I am excited for another CS.

Yes! Being able to schedule it and be prepared is a huge plus. My parents live 12 hours away and will come down to stay with DS and the dogs, and then at least my mom is coming back for 2 weeks when H goes back to work. It's so nice being able to plan that and they can put in vacation days ahead of time, and not be waiting on labor like last time.

This may not be unpopular, but I think that if I can go through 2 pregnancies and 2 vaginal births (assuming that's what I'll have next), then my husband can get a little snip snip when we're all done. He's acting like this is too much for him to handle. Trust me--I get it. It's a surgery on your man parts, but I mean I think I've "taken one for the team" by this point.

(If I end up with an unexpected c-section, then it's a moot point because I'll just get "fixed" then.)
Does he have any friends who have had a vasectomy? The recovery is supposed to be much better for that than a tubal

Mine finally agreed that he would get one once we're finished having kids.  It took a lot of discussing.  It just makes more sense.

No he doesn't. It's just a fear of the unknown I think. He acts like they'll be castrating him with how dramatic he's being. :)
