GTKY - What's the one bad habit you just haven't kicked yet?

Mine is coffee.  I have dropped to considerably less coffee.  I now only drink 1 cup every couple of days when I'm really dragging.  I used to drink 3-4 cups every day.  I have also cut out all other caffeine except 1 glass of tea with supper.  Oh, and I ate raw oysters...yeah, that's probably a pretty bad one, but I swear I won't do it again (or atleast try not to)...

So, what's your bad habit?  Have you kicked it cold turkey since getting your BFP?  Are ya gonna kick it at all? **No judgement from me!**

  • Unfortunately I seemed to of dropped the coffee for right now. I just have no interest in it since last week. I'm really dragging. I wouldn't necessarily say it's a bad habit, but I will not drop my sushi, feta, or lunch meat. They are delicious and when you deprive yourself of the thins you want most it only makes for a miserable pregnancy. I ate them with DD and I'll eat them again.

  • I think I am still drinking too much caffeine. I have coffee in the morning and usually that is it. Sometimes still have  soda at night.

  • I'm starting to get over my ms. The last few weeks I've just eaten whatever I was craving and actually sounded appealing, which didn't include many healthy foods or water. Now that I'm starting to feel better I'm having a hard time starting to eat healthy
  • Diet Mountain Dew. I seriously attribute it to the reason my baby had so much hair...

  • I am eating all carbs lately. That is all I can stomach and I just feel the weight packing on. I haven't had the taste for coffee at all but I sure used to love that stuff. Same with diet coke.
  • Coffee.  I try to add more milk/creamer to dilute it but realistically I know 1 cup a day should be fine so I just am going to keep on keeping on.

  • wait, why aren't we supposed to eat feta?

I'm still drinking coffee in the AM.

I'm not taking a prenatal vitamin.

and I'm probably eating too many artificial sweeteners in the form of SF jello pudding and Fanta zero.

I'm not terribly concerned about any of the above.

I drink one cup of coffee a day, which is fine, so I don't really consider it a bad habit. I eat soft cheese, but it is all pasteurized, so again, fine.

In general I am eating too much junk, but I really just need to get through this sick icky 1st Tri period and after that, from experience, I will be able to eat much better.

ETA: flavored coffee creamer is probably one of my worst habits that I don't know if I ever will be able to break. I hate coffee otherwise.

  • we cold turkey quit smoking, drinking booze and caffeine.  But not really on the caffeine.
I still have a half-caf coffee with skim milk every morning.  And one soda in the mid afternoon.  But I did switch from diet to reg. soda.

Out of quitting the cigs (we used to only smoke 3 a day) quitting the drininking and trying to give up caffeine, its the Diet Coke that I miss the most.

  • I don't take prenatals, and I probably won't. Same with my last pregnancy, no fail every time I take one, I puke. I've wasted so much money on different brands etc. I try to eat more veggies with the things I need to offset it, but I really don't see the point of the vitamin if I throw it up.
Me too!  There is only 1 kind that I was able to keep down with my last pregnancy, and I'm waiting to see the doc tomorrow so I can get a prescription for them.  The OTC ones, I always throw right back up.

I love the Natural Bliss - sweet cream flavor.  I know there is nothing "natural" about it.  But it warms my soul.

  • @piedpiper07‌ have you tried new chapter brand? That's the only manufacturer of vitamins that doesn't make me queasy. Made from only whole food products, no chemicals, so you digest them easier. Worth a try!
  • @mamaloaf‌ I'm a huge diet mtn dew fan. Normally have one every day for breakfast which really grosses people out. They haven't tasted the same for me being pregnant so haven't had them while pregnant though
  • I've been on a carb binge since the holidays. Really hoping to not get gestational diabetes so need to be cutting back...
  • My problem is carbs and processed ones at that. With all the nausea, I've just been trying to eat things that sit ok in my tummy. That's mostly been crackers, ramen noodles, etc. Starting to feel slightly better though so yesterday I bought salad, veggies, and fruit to snack on throughout the day.
  • Sugar free stuff. Not because I'm pregnant, but because they aren't good for you in general. I also don't workout like I should. I want every day, but it's more like 2-3 times a week. Otherwise, I live life as normal. I'm not giving up my stinky cheese, coffee, Jimmy John's, and sushi!!

  • 1 cup of coffee every other day and deli turkey meat here and there. For those not taking prenatals please take them! If you're having bad reactions to taking them I highly recommend Vitafol Nano prescription prenatels. It's a tolerable, teeny tiny blue pill. I only pay $25 and they are very easy to get down.

That's the ones I'm waiting to get a prescription for tomorrow.  It was really the only ones I could keep down. My insurance covers them 100%.

Carbs. I was a gestational diabetic last time and probably will be again so I should be eating as one, but my day is filled with bread, pasta, and fruit. I had my sugars tested on Monday, so we will see what the results say.
This is mine, too -- I can't stop with the bread and fruit, and I don't want to take that damn test.

Do you have just folic acid? Here in Germany we have something called "folio forte" it is just folic acid, and B12. It is super easy to take and really the most important vitamin to be getting during this time. Your stomach could probably handle it.

    a) in the US, grains are fortified with folic acid.  so bread, pasta, breakfast cereals, all provide folic acid.

    b) it's a lot easier to eat enough folate rich foods when you aren't being made nauseous by a prenatal vitamin

    c) the neural tube closes around 6 weeks along with your window to prevent NTD by supplementing with folic acid.

  • @ebeth_msn For the win. Thank you for bringing some calm to the frenzy.

My bad habit that I can't shake is staying up late. I have GOT to sleep more and I just can't break my late night snuggle date with DH where we watch a couple shows after putting DD to bed. Really, my bedtime should be the same as the kiddo! But then I don't get grown-up time with the hubster.

    *sigh*

If this is my biggest problem right now, I'll take it gladly.

  • Diet coke for me, I don't drink coffee, I have one can in the morning and I only allow myself to drink five sips of a can and that is it.  I drink water the rest of the day.  I was  a huge drinker of DC before I got pregnant so modifying it all the way down to five sips is a huge win for me

The past two days I have been eating junk food like it was my job, I really want that to stop I got helathier foods for me to eat today so I can stay away from the chips and chex mix.  Yuck.
  • Not sleeping enough. I also stay up past DD to hang out on my own or with DH. I should just go to bed. Sleep is so important.

Also stress. I'm a stress pot.

  • Some days the only food that it appetizing is chocolate fudge snack packs.  So I basically just eat 2 or 3 of those and a couple handfuls of cheerios and call it a balanced diet.
  • I can't seem to stop drinking soda, I only have like one to two cans a day.

Also, lunch meat. I'm addicted sandwiches.
  • Mine is coffee, though I've cut way back and only drink it maybe once a week, but it's still a concern for me. Sometimes I just need a pick me up.
