Mamaroo vs RnP?

I registered for a RnP, because every raves about them although I whole heartedly do not plan to have baby sleep nights in it. It would just be for rocking and maybe naps.

Then I saw the mamaroo and now I'm in love with it!

I don't really want to register for both, so STMs which would you say register for?

Agree with the PP. The two products are very different. We loved our swing and so did our daughter. The MamaRoo is very cool and I really wanted one, but our daughter needed a more significant swinging motion.

As for the RNP, it was a lifesaver for us. Our daughter's reflux was bad enough that if she didn't sleep on an incline, she'd reflux and choke. I realize that the RNP isn't marketed for sleeping overnight and I also know its use in that manner isn't without controversy. However, you do what works for your baby and you do it safely. Our pedi had no problem with her sleeping in it so long as she got sufficient tummy time. We also used a Boppy head support. Never had a problem. She slept great in it and easily transitioned back to a flat surface in one night.

Okay for R&P, do I need the auto rocker, or is the original fine?

We had the original RNP. No auto rocker. Think that's all you need!

  • I registered for the rock n play incase lo had reflux and luckily she didn't so I returned it. She also hates the swing. I prefer to do naps and sleeping in the crib and you can make it dark, white noise and you don't have to transition later on.

  • DD loved her mamaroo and would take short naps in it, but mostly just liked to 'rest' peacefully in there. She slept in a bassinet for nighttime and naps until 6 months, then it was her crib. I think having a designated sleep place made it easy for her to know it was time to sleep when she got older.
I agree with PPs the two items are for totally different things. DD LOVED her bouncy seat (not a jumper) and we had a $25 bright starts one, nothing fancy.

Looking back i probably would have gone with a cheaper swing if I was doing it again, just to save money, as cool as the Mamaroo is I don't think its so superior.

  • I have both. Rock in Play has a deeper incline that my baby likes when she sleeps. She likes the Mommaroo when she wants to sit up more
  • We have every swing on the market because we have a very fussy baby and a desperate mama :) he hated the mamaroo, likes the cradle n swing for day time and sleeps in the rock n play (most of the time). Def get a rock n play. They aren't too expensive and worth every penny.
