  • I'm sorry there was both sacs... Gestational and yolk because the tech said something about one forms placenta or something. To me the picture just looked like a black void... not looking like the pics I've seen posted here. I guess I'll wait for the doctor to call. I just wasn't expecting her to say that yes, there are two sacs but then not show me a little pic of the fetus.

My understanding is that if there is a yolk sac then it's not considered a blighted ovum. Usually your doctor will schedule a follow up ultrasound in a week or two to see if there has been any growth. I'm in a similar situation--we saw the gestational sac and yolk sac but no fetus, but I'm measuring a week behind. I'm sorry, I know it sucks to be in limbo.

  • Friday at 3:20. I'll be nine w to the day!!! :x
  • Appointment to day and I have to say I would much rather be with a midwife then a family doctors but Newfoundland doesn't have midwives :( I see this doc once a month and the. At 28 weeks I change over to to an OBGYN.
  • Tomorrow at 1:30 for first appt. and u/s!! DF and I are excited but I'm anxious to see that everything with the little peanut is ok!

Well, I had my appt today, no US and i didn't even get to hear a heart beat. I'm really upset about it. Im 9w2d.. midwife said the babies too small to hear a heart beat right now, so at your next appt you might get to...which is 4 weeks away. Ugh. I just wanted to hear a heartbeat today.

Not finding a HB on Doppler when you try too early is, IMO, worse than waiting. Not finding a heartbeat when there is nothing else you can do bc your ultrasound is still a few weeks away is not a good place to be. I'd say be happy everything is going well and in 4 weeks when you go back you'll be in a better place to find a heartbeat and it will be exciting. Four weeks seems like forever but it will be here before you know it.

Thank you I appreciate it. Waiting 4 weeks will seem like forever, at 13 weeks along and just hearing the heartbeat seems really late.. idk. I'll get through it hopefully with no troubles and worries. :/
  • My first u/s is tomorrow at 10am!!! Im so excited and scared!!! Been loving to see all the baby pics getting posted! And I am truely sorry to those that have had bad news :-( Ill be 7w6d by ovulation (I ovulated late in my cycle), so hoping we get to see more than a blob!
  • I don't know how to feel about the appointment. I saw and heard the heartbeat - it was strong at 119 - but I measured in at 6 weeks 1 day instead of 7 weeks. The technician and doc said everything looked perfect, the position, the fluid, etc. The doctor said the measuring result could be one of two things (1) I ovulated late or (2) it's just not developing properly. He thinks it's late ovulation based on the hCG betas and the other u/s I had a couple of weeks ago. This is how my bloodwork went:

    12/16 - 13
    12/18 - 50
    12/22 - 372
    12/29 - 12,070

I agree with the doc on the late ovulation just based on the betas and everything I have experienced so far.

Anyways, I went in for an u/s the day after Christmas because of severe cramping I had on Christmas day. Turns out it was all GI related - but it was so miscarriage reminiscent I freaked out. So now I am working on getting my GI all straightened out.

I go back in on the 21st for another u/s and that's the one that's going to let us know where we are headed. Really scary but so grateful - I have never made it this far (to see the heartbeat, etc). I am also on progesterone, so I know that's helping too.

Anyone else go through this or have any input?

I just got back from my first appt and they saw nothing but an empty sac. I am supposed to be 9 weeks so things are not looking good for me. I got my blood drawn and I go back Friday to see if I double or not. I think I died a little right there on the table.

Maybe now my mother will understand why I didn't want her to tell anyone!

Late to the thread here, but so sorry for your loss @mrslampert‌. Hugs to all those in limbo! Any way you could have ovulated late, @doveshoes‌? I hope it turns out ok.
I guess it's possible, I wasn't charting. But I've always been regular and have short cycles. I am preparing myself for the worst. I hope others get some great news this week though!
  • I am so sorry @doveshoes‌. FX for you!

I was the same way! So nervous my blood pressure sky rocketed and I gave the nurse and doctor a scare. After seeing baby and knowing everything was ok, blood pressure went right back to normal :) Who knew having a baby was so stressful!

  • @doveshoes‌ lots of hugs

  • They just called my US is the 19th, omg hurry up!! Can't wait. I will be 11 weeks at that time.
  • Going on the 8th! Wait that's today! Maybe I should get some sleep! It's the middle of the night!!! Am I the only one who can't sleep at night but can during the day! Another wtf moment I guess!

PS. Sorry for rant just tired! I-)
  • I'm back from my first ultrasound at 7w 5d. Everything was fine, a strong heartbeat and measured exactly 7w 5d.
The doctor found another sac wich was empty, just some 'stuff'. It explains why I was pretty much a mess week 5 &6, and this became less last week.
I'm actually not sad about it, I think having a twin with your first pregnancy at your 23th is pretty intense. I'm very happy everything is well with our baby :)
  • I'm 9 weeks into my first pregnancy. There have been no complications, but I won't get to hear the heartbeat until Feb. 2 at 13 weeks, and the sonogram won't be scheduled until 20 weeks. I am extremely frustrated and nervous. Is it normal for the doctor to NOT listen for a HB until the 2nd trimester and just assume everything is okay? Why do some have U/S at week 4, 5, or 6 and others not until 20?

There are a couple reasons why people get early scans

    1. They had some kind of fertility treatment and this is a part of their follow up care
    2. They have had a loss or multiple losses
    3. OB wants to have a dating scan since most people do not ovulate on CD 14 and could be unsure of dates.

I get the waiting game is a pain and hard. Trust me with even after having a scan every week the waiting game is still hard though I could had it from a PAL mindset.

If I wouldn't have had my first two losses I would not have had my first scan until the NT one which is between 10-13 weeks. After the NT scan I only get the an a\s unless there is some kind of complication.

edit: the NT scan is optional so someone could have their only ultrasound at 18-22 weeks.

I would try to focus on the positive and not the fact that you are unable to get a scan.
