  • I'm also thinking of creating some of these book slings. I'm thinking out of a burlap/thick linen.

The tutorial uses the hardware for double curtain roads then just dowel rods. I assume you could also just make brackets using a flat piece of wood and dowel rods attached with closet rod ends.

For some reason I can't post pics but I've made my LO name boards out of ceiling tiles. I've always done them other people's nurseries and now I'm finally able to do it for my own! I also started on some pom poms to hang in her nursery as well.

Do you paint just on the square or use the tiles to cut out letters?

A little bit of both. It depends on what I'm doing and what I want it to look like. I painted her name board but am cutting out pieces to put together to make a zebra. I'll glue it in the bottom corner of the name board. They are so easy and cheap to make And turn out super cute!
  • I bought a used nursery set in October. The pictures looked like everything was the same color but the crib isn't and it's kind of beat up. It was cheap so j kept it. My husband is in the process refinishing the crib to match. He's only sanded the sides so far. And of course it's sideways.

We did these for DS room, honestly I'm not a huge fan of the function of them.  They are kind of a PIA getting books in and out if you have more than 1 in front or back of each other.  I do think they are cute on the wall, just not the best to get books in and out of.

My DH is very handy & does refinishing/woodwork as a hobby. He is in the process of making this in a French gray. The top will be made to house the changing pad. I feel in love with a PB changing table/dresser, but didn't want to spend $1200. I figure the baskets will come in handy for all those small toys boys have when LO is older.
That will look beautiful and it's super special that your DH is working on it.

I have a blanket I am embroidering. I feel I may finish it by the time my third kid gets here. (I'm working on number one)

I really am jealous of all of y'all's craftiness and commitment to finish. It all looks beautiful so far.

This is one of the contenders for over the crib! It's so cute!
  • I made a mobile! I've since trimmed the frayed bottoms. Need the perfect ribbon for the top!
  • My mom made DD's nursery bedding, curtains, and recovered the glider and ottoman we got on Craig's List. We're in a 2 bedroom townhouse, so the kiddos will share a room after the new baby moves out of the bassinet in our room. I need to make a few more crib sheets and a crib skirt to match what my mom already made. The room is painted gray and the trim and furniture are white. The fabrics are lime green with accents of a gray and white patterned fabric.

  • My mother and I are figuring out window treatments and dust ruffle. Was hoping to get that done before school break was over because it's testing season and she gets really stressed. Artwork for the room is completely done just waiting for the wall to cure a bit more before we hang it up.
My dad is building bookshelves to go around the room as well.
And also going to do some decoupage on a lamp using golden books pages.

Yes I would agree with alie. We made one sling for our son's room, and while cute, it was not very user friendly unless you are happy with just dropping books in them, the books falling over on their sides, and not being able to see all the titles. We actually went with the ikea spice shelves in Ds room and those have been fantastic.

I bought some shelves at Ikea and put them up in DD's big girl room, they turned out really pretty! Another option if you don't feel like making them.

Thanks for the feedbacks on the book slings. I'm thinking now of just doing a small bookcase and calling it done.

  • @SEACHELE98 Everything looks awesome so far!

We just finished painting the room and still need to do furniture.  I ordered fabric to make all the bedding today for both boys.  My stepson never really got a theme because he was in our room so long, so he is benefiting from this as well.

So far I've made this hotwheels shadow box, complete with hotwheels from both grandpas and DH.  Then my FIL had these old metal cars that match some of the cars in the fabrics, I'm going to repaint them.  After bedding the names over their beds are the last diy project.   I can't wait to see it all come together!  I've also attached the fun drawer pulls we are using on the dressers.  Vintage car theme is way more fun than I thought it'd be!

  • I am on the craigslist hunt to find a campaign dresser to refinish. Found one that we looked at this weekend but the drawers were total crap. I feel like time is running out to find, refinish, etc. sooo, might need to rethink my DIY plans :(.

I've only bought a couple things but am so excited to get things moving on the nursery. Decorating is my jam!
  • I'm going to make a mobile. Here is the base:

Even if you're not into IKEA, you might be able to find a dresser on Craig's List that you could transform into a campaign style as described in this IKEA hack: https://www.ikeahackers.net/2012/07/ikea-rast-turned-campaign-chest.html

  • I haven't been on the bump in a while.. I was browsing this thread caught my eye so I want to share a couple of my DIY projects.

I am spray painting an old glider chair white to match the rest of her furniture, it's been cold in NC so I haven't been able to do the second coat. My grandmother is sewing new cushions for it.

I saw the shelf with hanging space (used a small shower rod) on Pinterest that I put together when I first found out that I was having a girl. I just ordered her dresser that should be here by 1/13. I will then put her clothes in the drawer, add the last shelf and buy all new matching storage bins.

The letter G is made out a bag of wine corks that my grandmother gave me. I painted them pink then glued them to a cardboard G I stenciled out of a box. Printed out the butterflies and used two sided foamy tape to sort of make them pop out a bit.

I still need to find a pretty ribbon to hang her name on the wall in a happy birthday style banner but I made it by painting 4x4in white canvas with the same pink as the letter G because it matches her bedding, printed and cut out the letters... Made them stick by adding a second coat of paint. Printed and cut out the white flowers and used the two sided foamy tape to make pop out a bit.

  • Didn't think I should start a new craft thread but I need help! Anyone with experience with mod podge and sealing it. The project we did was taking children's book pages and covering the door. I have an issue with the pages bubbling after I put the sealer on. I know it's too late for the back of he door but any suggestions for the front? Any experience with the liquid vs spray? Pic for those interested. image
