I need ideas.
Lately A has been taking terrible naps at DC. When he went down to two naps they were usually 1 hour - 1.5 each. The last several weeks he is taking one short morning nap, usually no longer than 45-50 minutes. Some days this results in a really crabby guy, other days he seems perfectly fine even though he's been up since around noon, and we've moved up his bedtime a little as a result.
I suspect it's too loud in the infant room and that's why he is waking when he is. He does have two molars coming in on the bottom, but I don't suspect that's an issue ATM, because he is eating like he has a hollow leg and his teachers report he is having perfect days other than the short nap. Pete is going to talk to the morning teacher and Director tomorrow to see if noise is the problem, but if it is, what can really be done? I would ask if they can wait until after lunch and let him nap with the toddlers but I'm sure that wouldn't work because of ratios. Is this something we just have to suffer through until he transitions?
Re: Why is The Dude napping so poorly?
I think in my state there are different ratio rules when toddlers are asleep (or I'm remembering incorrectly) but it's definitely worth looking into!
The last month G was in the infant room I had to be persistent that they keep him on a schedule. It helped, but their typical relaxation on schedules that's great for infants (feed when hungry, sleep when tired) is not so great for toddlers.
I hope it improves!
I don't think it's a dull roar so much as kids screeching, as A likes to do also, and if that's the case I'm not sure how well it would work at drowning them out.
@CFox815 I really hope so. He just fell asleep while he was eating dinner. My kid does not just fall asleep. It's been bad since late November but steadily growing worse. Today was 11:40-12:15. And I'm sure that time doesn't start when he falls asleep because there is no way they sit there watching him roll around and chew his blanket until he passes out. If he is able to get himself to sleep, it usually takes 10-15 minutes.
There were a couple days last week when he napped after lunch, and it wasn't much better. There is another girl in his class a couple weeks older than him and she is on one nap, I'm not sure about the other kids but I believe they are probably still taking two. They do have one boy that is older than 18 months still in the infant room and I would assume he is also down to one, but I'm not sure. I don't know everything that goes on with him of course, but he seems to not be doing well enough developmentally to transition to the toddler room yet.
@chrisy_01 they just respond to his sleep cues. Most days he is ready to sleep around 10:30 - 11, but if he is not slowing down they will wait. He has gotten pretty good about letting everyone know he is tired. At home he runs to the bottom of the stairs (his room is on the second floor) and says, "Up." His DC teacher says he goes over to the door that divides the sleeping area from the play area to tell them when he's ready for a nap.
I'm no help, but I totally feel your pain. This past weekend LO took one nap each day... the longest time 30 minutes... 30!!!! And then DH left for the afternoon saturday and I was alone with the little terror!!!
Hugs. LO sleeps better at DC... He had about an hour nap yesterday, but it was his first time on the cot so I expect that to take some getting used to...
