If you have been to or are a Physical Therapist?

My first Physical Therapy appointment is tomorrow. I'm going right from work. I have never been to physical therapy before, so I'm not sure if I will need to bring a change of clothes or not. (I wear business casual to work). I'm guessing I should, since don't you do stretches and exercises?

Sorry, for my ignorance.

  • I've seen people wear sweats and a T-shirts or shorts and a t-shirt.  You defintely want something stretchy.  They might not do too much the first time...but I could be wrong.

  • If you could bring something to change into that would be easier.  Usually the first session is more of an assessment rather than full out exercises and stretches.
  • I would bring some workout gear.  I never wore sneakers or anything, but I warmed up on the bike for 10-15 minutes, and then did all of my exercises (was there for my knee).

My sis is a PT, and they wear khakis and sweatshirt type of shirts, since they need to move a bit to show the exercises.

  • depends on what you're going for.  If it's a leg problem it's helpful to be able for them to look at your joints to get a better picture of what's going on.  I'd bring shorts just in case...  I'm a PT :)
