Not when they are little, when they are toddlers sure because they toss, turn and destroy their rooms when they are in big "girl/boy" beds. But honestly I make their beds almost every day or so if they wanted to they could figure out how to unzip it and do the same thing as now.
My dumb q: how do people know what part of their baby's body is attacking them? I feel activity on both opposite sides of my belly so have decided he is completely stretched out, his feet are on the left and his arms are above his head punching me on the right (I picture this as bad dancing, lacking of rhythm, with him doing white-man's overbite all the while). But then sometimes the activity is more in the middle. Is he tumbling? How do ya'll know what part of baby you're feeling where?

Yeah my sister runs a daycare and she doesn't even have a spot for me for infants. That's why you just keep calling early and get on those waitlists.
I won't need to have LO in daycare until the end of August. Should I start calling now? I have no idea how early is too early or if I'm already behind.
Yes, start calling now. Whether there is a waiting list is going to depend on what type of care you end up choosing, what you can afford to pay, and how saturated your market is. With my first I visited centers after my NT scan and ended up on 3 waiting lists.
Call now. You're already late.
Our daycare told us that August was a horrible time to try to fit an infant in, because all of the teachers like yourself go back at once. Get on the horn, lady!
@lexyraejay My DH is 6'6". It never occurred to me to bring the inflatable mattress! So putting this on the list of things to bring!
He actually tested the convertible couch/bed and thought he could handle it because he can sleep anywhere. He went home after the first night to get the air mattress It's since sprung a leak, so we'll need a new one.
@saltbox40 A question in regards to the breast feeding....I tried to find a La Leche League in my area and the closest one is over 2 hours away. Do you know of any other groups I could try?
I'm terrified of breastfeeding. I have decided to try and read up on it a little but I have no help because nobody I know has breastfed their babies. I want to get a book or even read a site that helps me know what I need and gives me the basics without being totally overwhelming like most breastfeeding discussions are. Any advice or recommendations?
Ok first up, contact your local La Leche League and see if there are meetings you can start attending now.
I suggest you read The Womanly Art of Breastfeeding. Also, if you have Netflix, rent the film "Breastmilk".
You need support to breastfeed. Let's work on getting you and your SO educated on how to be successful.
Does the hospital your delivering at have Lactation Consultants? They will be your first contact with "an expert", so be honest with them and ask for help and supervision when trying to feed your baby for the first few times.
Does the hospital offer breastfeeding classes before birth? Can you hire a post natal doula to help you with breastfeeding through a few home visits after birth?
I am proud of you for going against the grain, and being the first in your circle to consider breastfeeding. You should be proud and hold your head high. You're giving the very best nutrition and emotional support to your baby.
Lastly, we will surely be doing breastfeeding posts and troubleshooting once more babies start arriving earthside. Don't be shy.
Lastly, go to kellymom.com and start reading up now. It is an excellent online resource with real questions and answers that FTMs have.
Good luck to you!
Thank you saltbox40 and to everyone who has answered me I'm very appreciative of the support! My hospital does have lactation consultants and I definitely plan to use them, however I do not have a lot of extra money that I want to spend on classes or a doula. I'm for sure going to watch the documentary and look into getting the book, thank you so much for the recommendations! I will also love to participate in the check in once we have our little ones here. I think part of my problem is I have no clue what to expect. Reading over these posts, I didn't know babies could be tongue tied, have incorrect latches, or that you have to switch boobs between feedings. My mom wasn't able to breastfeed and neither was my sister, so there's still a chance that I won't be able to either but I know how beneficial it is for my baby! Again, thank you guys, just reading over these responses has calmed me down a bit and I'm off to start checking my resources!
BTDT moms: Talk to me about PPD. I imagine with such a hormonal shift there will be some natural swings, but curious what is considered normal and what are important warning signs to look out for. I will obviously also bring this up with my doctor so H and I can be aware, but would love any stories you may be willing to share.
I'm only in the first page so don't know if this has been covered, but I didn't develop PPD until 4 months PP so you can't necessarily count on your PP Ob check up for your doctor to gauge of you have it or are at risk. You can develop PPD up to a year PP. So make sure you and your partner both know what to look for and who to ask for help.
@Murran131 and @annapants26 thank you for the input! I was thinking it would be best to leave it as long as possible. Was just hoping other people would say "oh set it up, no one cares!" It's frustrating not being able to nest when I get the urge. But I will do whatever it takes to get out of here as fast as possible! )
I'm sure the 'what to pack in my hospital bag' questions will be starting up soon.
I'm kind of a minimalist when it comes to packing, so I likely won't bring all that much. My question is, BTDT moms, is there something that you didn't pack that you really wish you had?
Extra loose pants and a zip hoodie. I sent the hubby out to buy me men's sweatpants when I realized that my women's lounge pants weren't doing it for me!
Okay another question that might be dumb. When do Braxton hicks contractions become dangerous or worrisome? I've been having them all day like crazy which isn't common for me. I started to track them and I'm having about 5 an hour at least for the past two hours and it's been like that all day. They don't hurt but are really uncomfortable. Also tried moving around and drinking lots of water but they're still coming on.
If it does come that fast, please call an ambulance. You don't want to be giving birth on the side of the road alone.
As a paramedic.. please do!! We DO NOT mind in the least giving rides to the hospital for labor. I've done quite a few of these. If you are stranded at home and in labor and need to get going.. please please call us.
Okay, here's my question: (***TMI alert***) I've been leaking colostrum for a couple weeks now, and out of curiosity I tried to hand express it in the shower this morning and was surprised at how much I could get. So I'm wondering if there would be any benefit (or detriment) to see if I can save what colostrum I'm producing during pregnancy for when after baby is born.
I'm hoping to EBF, and I know not to supplement while building up supply... What other factors should I take into consideration? Or is this just a crazy/silly/stupid idea to begin with?
Yeah, you don't need to save it. I see no benefit. Also, nipple stimulation can cause contractions.
Can nipple stimulation at any point during pregnancy cause contractions or just when the little one is ready to come?
I have two ... 1. At what point should I be concerned about umm digestive system issues? Is it normal to have these problems around now? 2. Can I get dental work? Like numb and drill?
Dr. Google has conflicting info on both. I'll ask my OB but I don't see her for a few days. Thoughts?

1. Yes sadly they're normal. As long as you're getting enoug liquid and nutrients, there's not much to worry about.
2. My dentist said it'd likely be fine. That being said, there's no reason to do it now if if can be done in a few months.
Do still bring these up with your OB- that's what they're there for!
The Edinburgh PP Depression Scale is what your doc will most likely use to screen for PPD in the weeks after your LO is born. Most of us use a score of 11 as a cutoff for cause for concern and 14 as more or less diagnostic. Clinically, whether you are functioning ok, whether things are generally trending towards getting better or worse, and presence of any suicidal/homicidal or delusional thoughts are very important.
If you are not already taking an Omega 3 supplement I would start one. baby needs it for his/her developing brain but there is also emerging evidence that they are useful in treating depression and anxiety so a good thing to have on board. I find the chewable gummies way more user friendly than the big horse pills (no yucky fish oil burps!).
I'm happy to answer more questions if you want to message me here
Thanks! The dental work can't wait it seems. It's starting to bother me. The dentist said it would be ok but I tend to be skeptical. Google had both opinions on it. I sent a message to the OB on their email questions line (which is super easy)
As for issue #1, I was hoping maybe it was like a fluke thing and would stop. I'm thinking this is my new normal. Fun.

I'm always lost when it comes to quality supplements. Do I buy the cheap store brand or go to a specialty supplement store and buy the organic, grass-feed, cruelty-free?
I'm equally clueless about brands etc. in the past I have asked a friend who is a naturopath but sometimes your pharmacist will have an opinion on what is reported to be good quality.
Not sure if the fancy ones come in chewable gummies or not. I'm currently taking the iron kids brand I found at the grocery store
But seriously.... When is it acceptable to start using the expectant mothers parking ?
Yeah I've been using that for months now. I mean if it's only for women who are 8 months pregnant then put up a damn sign saying so. I'm expecting, why should I feel ashamed for using it?? I wish my local walmart had a couple.. I shop there a lot and its fucking cold out. The hyvee in my town has one but it's usually taken and I don't shop there often anyway.
Exactly, I get outta breath rolling outta bed in the morning. I'm not about to push my groceries two blocks to my car.

Dude. The office I work at is enormous, with a huge parking lot. Much as I love having a ten minute walk to my desk, outside through ice and snow, it's not happening right now.
My doc wrote me a note and I now have a designated spot in front of my building (thank you corporate mothership) that is at my disposal until the end of April. I've had it since Thanksgiving. #notsorry
They also offered me a rascal scooter. DH is really bummed I turned it down!
But seriously.... When is it acceptable to start using the expectant mothers parking ?
My personal feeling on this is that it's ok to use if you are physically uncomfortable, if there is weather that would up your chances of falling, or if you are far enough along that walking an extra 20 feet could put you into labor (and you aren't trying to walk the baby out). If I'm feeling good, I see no reason to use it, I'd rather leave it for someone who needs it.
But seriously.... When is it acceptable to start using the expectant mothers parking ?
I've been using it since about 16w! The ones around here say expectant moms/parents with children. So, I figure they aren't really strict on who can use them. All through ttc I used to glare at those signs but now I plan to use them while I can!
They aren't really common near me either, so it's only at a couple grocery stores.

Uhhh...yesterday.
Ok thank goodness, I've been using it at wallmart since the day I found out. Apparently around here it's frowned upon if not 9months and ready to pop
Ok so mine about this is kind of awful, but I don't even care. My Walmart doesn't have one of those spots, so I made DH park in the "Pharmacy Only 20min Limit" spot the other day. We'd been running errands all day, I was exhausted and my feet were killing me. We weren't there for the pharmacy at all. Had to do some grocery shopping and wasn't looking forward to trecking around the whole store. He didn't want to park there at all and asked "What if someone says something?" I was in a mood so I just kind of glared and said "Let them try". In hindsight I guess he could have just dropped me off at the front and parked, but that thought didn't occur to me until literally right this second.
@lexyraejay My DH is 6'6". It never occurred to me to bring the inflatable mattress! So putting this on the list of things to bring!
... My sister was going to do this also, until I explained to her what kind of things hit that floor... I wouldn't recommend sleeping down there. Usually they have a fold out chair or bed that converts. Up to you of course, but I've seen 5 deliveries and I would definitely not sleep on a L&D floor.
Also, for the question of the cloth diaper and how to know when it's wet, at first, you are really just changing the diaper all the time after every feeding, sometimes before to wake them up anyway. Then you try to remember to change it every 2 hours or so. By then you can start to get a feel for the change in the diaper of dry vs wet. It's not as obvious as a disposible but does feel different. Also, if you are holding them and they pee, it's usually a little temperature change in the diaper. If you aren't sure, just change it, it's cloth, dry or not it's not like you are throwing away a diaper and wasting money.
I've got one! Sorry it's a day late. Is it super bad if I forget I've taken my prenatal vitamin and take an extra one by accident? I take the GNC ones that you have to take 3x and I am so super forgetful lately. I need one of those pill container things.
