TOL/VBAC roll call

Hello, all. After lurking for a long time (months!), I recently started posting and have really enjoyed the connection it provides. So thanks!

I'm posting now to get a sense of who else is prepping for a Trial of Labor/VBAC. During my daughter's birth (4 years ago), I had an emergency section due to placental abruption after 2+ days of labor. While I'm relieved to still be considered a VBAC candidate (and to have an OB team w a high VBAC success rate), I admit to having some anxiety about TOL and wonder if anyone else is in a similar boat.

If so, would anyone be interested in periodic TOL/VBAC conversations/check-ins? I'm interested in hearing how other mamas are prepping, if prep is different this time than last, plans for epidurals vs. going (or attempting to go) med-free, etc.

Does anyone else feel like they could use this support? What questions do you have for other VBAB mamas?

Re: TOL/VBAC roll call

  • I'm interested in a check in. I more than anything want a VBAC, although I fear it won't be up to me at the end. I had an emergency c section due to baby's intolerance of labor contractions. Her heart rate dropped so low, she was taken out asap.

  • I am checking in. Still going back and forth on what we will do. I want the VBAC but hubby wants safe route.. CS
I need my head in the game also
  • I had a csection for DS who was complete breech and I'm totally vying for a vaginal birth this time. I keep sending vertex vibes to my uterine resident ;) my doc is sending me to a VBAC specialist closer towards the end of my pregnancy.
  • Great! I'm glad that there are others here who feel like a regular check-in would help support VBAC preparation (and decision-making, for those still undecided). I'll try to start a weekly check-in this coming week...say Wednesday? If someone beats me to the punch, awesome! Looking forward to getting to know you all!

You know that a c/s is not at all the safe route, right?
Neither is safe in my opinion. I have a low lying placenta. the doc is thinking best option for mommy and baby are for a c/s to not risk a rupture in a vbac. Part of me still wants to sooo badly to have a vbac but that "uterus rupture/ placenta rupture", scared the shit out of me. We talk about the options at every appointment. So much to think about

I am still undecided! I feel like I really need to figure this all out soon. I'd be interested in a checkin to see what everyone is doing.

  • My last pregnancy was a VBAC and I want another one this time sooooooooo bad. The recovery was awesome. Unfortunately, because this baby is in the same horn of my split uterus as the baby who had a c-section for breech presentation, I won't know if it can turn into position until closer to my due date.

  • I am on the fence too and would be interested in the check in. I originally planned for cs but when my doctor mentioned vbac and after reading several posts on here I have started to lean towards vbac. I have been reading a lot lately trying to decide. It will also depend if my placenta has moved up. They are checking at the next appt.

  • Soooo I have placenta previa. I have my ultrasound Monday to check on the changes with that. If it moves up, I am definately not ruling out a VBAC!

    Fingers crossed.

  • I'm very interested in a check in. Talked a lot about a VBAC at my last appointment Friday with my doctor. I really want to try. My son was a c-section at 41.5 weeks my doctor wouldn't even let me try to be induced just said my son was so big I needed one. I also didn't dilate. I loss my daughter at 24 weeks gestation in February and tried to deliver her naturally but after being induced for 3 days and having my water break and me close back up after being dilated to 4. I'm very nervous and just want what is best for my baby girl.
  • I had a natural birth with my first, emergency csection with my second and now im going for VBAC. Im not doing an epidural. Mainly becausw my last experience wasnt a good one. Im okay with iv drugs just not spinal meds. I'm nervous that something will go wrong and I'll need a c section again. But im going with a midwife this time to increase my success rate. We will see what happens in the next 10-13 weeks.
  • Those who have successfully vbac'ed, any wisdom you'd like to share? Or maybe your experience with it?

I would like the check in. The original plan with DD was to be induced but due to her size (13 lbs 6oz) I was told a CS was the only safe way for delivery. The recovery from that CS was horrible, stitches ripped out before I even left the hospital.

Ive actually had 1 natural 2 csections and although a csection is not a "safe route" per say it is the safer route for baby vs a VBAC. I discussed VBAC with my dr last time and it is slightly more dangerous for baby. I am only able to have a VBAC this time if I go into labor early and only because I have delivered vaginally. Otherwise 2 csections typically takes a VBAC off the table.

Actually, ACOG has amended their position, and VBAC is now considered a reasonable option for those with 2 previous sections as well as for those carrying twins (again, as per ACOG).

What?!?! Tell me more. My son was 11 lbs 9 oz at 38 weeks and broke a hospital record. How many weeks were you at delivery and did you have GD? How tall was she? Is this baby measuring normal so far?
I was two days early with DD. She broke the hospital record... She measured 26.25" so she was long and lean. I was considered borderline GD but was told to watch what I ate. I'm not entirely sure how she ended up so big, my ex is 5'7" and I'm a shorty at 5'4". She's always been at or above the 100 percentile. At the age of six she's now 4'5".
  • I had a successful VBA2C's in February of 2013. I will be attempting another VBA2C's with this baby, due in April. I was surprisingly not nervous at all with the last delivery. Everything went perfectly. I don't know what it is about this pregnancy though that is making me feel uneasy about the whole 2nd VBA2C's. My husband has been very reassuring, but I just can't shake the nerves. Ugh!

  • So I am so down for a check-in...my 911 C-section was 8 years ago (yeah I know right!) I pushed one twin and had to have a C-section with the other (I KNOW!!!) My Doc says since it was SO long ago and the way they cut me was fine, I am a good candidate for a VBAC. I am a little scared about it b/c I always seem to fall in that percent of women that it's "rear if THIS" happens to you...

The healing time from my twins sucked! :( My a few of my staples popped from laughing with my older sister :( OUCH! so @alleriya I know your pain!
