Multiples

International Travel while pregnant with Multiples - WWYD?

I'm debating about whether to skip out on family trip to a remote island coming up. My doctor has given me the all clear, but she is extremely lax. It's a 5 hour international flight to a remote island with no medical facilities (there is a rural hospital 2 hours away by ferry). If you were 14 weeks with twins, would you go ? I guess I'm being overly paranoid because I lost my last pregnancy while traveling in Europe (and partially blamed the long flight and traveling for losing my baby).

  • Check your insurance. We had a trip planned over Christmas and when I looked into our travel insurance it would have been invalid if something happened because twins are considered high risk and a pre-existing condition. We cancelled it and I have no regrets. I'm 22 weeks, so farther a long but I think for peace of mind it might be good to cancel, especially with your past. You'd probably worry about every pull and tug and symptom and not enjoy yourself fully anyway.

  • My doctors cleared me for all travel, too, but also said that if I wasn't comfortable, then don't do it.

Things like this are personal decisions. I would be completely fine with it. Others might not be. Both feelings are valid.

  • As a loss mom I probably wouldnt consider going because I'm paranoid, but I doubt the long flight would cause a problem. If this is a once in a lifetime thing and the dr gave the Ok then consider it!

  • I traveled overseas to a remote island when I was 11-12 weeks. I was very careful and had permission from my doctor. If something did happen I knew it was too early for any intervention anyways. That being said with your history it doesn't sound like you would enjoy the trip and would spend it worrying etc. Do what feels right to you and don't let anyone pressure you to do otherwise.

  • If it is going to ruin your vacation I wouldn't go and maybe plan a Babymoon with your SO to somewhere that has a decent hospital.
  • I traveled to Boston (from Los Angeles = 5 hours) and walked a TON more than I should have at 24 weeks and was fine. Anything after that would have been useless (I stopped being limber around 26 weeks)

I traveled to the east coast at 14 weeks and was fine and walked a lot as well.

So yes, I would say you can go for it, BUT as pp said - if you aren't going to feel comfortable about it anyway, seems like a waste of money.
