MH owns his company (construction), and I always call him on my way home from work when he is still at work and commonly talk to him once around lunch time, but that's it.
Canadian here...what does 'a right to work state' mean? When I read that I assumed that everyone has a right to work and employers can't fire on a whim but it seems like people are saying the opposite.
DH works in HR so I am always hearing stories of him firing people, the reasons, and people are always escorted out. They can't even go back to their desk. He will get them their required personal effects - purpse, coat, etc - the rest will be sent to them. This is also coordinated with IT to lock out their computer access and to block their work cell.
@mishka29 Actually, the correct term for what most are referring to is "employment at-will."
Employment at-will says that the employee or employer may terminate employment without just cause. All states have this in some form to varying degrees.
Right to work states say that one cannot be fired for his or her decision to not join or leave a labor union.
Am I the only one here who barely ever talks to my DH while we are at work? I mean I would call him or text if there was an emergency, but 3 times a day? If nothing's wrong why can't it wait til you get home?
DH works for himself remodeling houses and we talk once a day for about 5 minutes max during lunch time. I will send him pictures of DD sometimes throughout the day but don't expect a response. I don't understand how anyone would get any work done talking three times a day!

Doesn't sound like a very understanding work place. May not have been the best place for him to work while your trying to raise a family anyway. Next time baby gets sick what happens? You try and text him to meet you at the dr or hospital and they fire him for that. Sounds like a blessing in disguise. Some times the worst things in life happen for the best reasons. My fiancé had a job hunting issue this year and we were really getting worried with baby coming. He got a job at a new place that was suppose to open in two weeks. That turned into a month and then after waiting and waiting thinking we would be alright, he called his manager who informed him they were never going to open. We lost a month waiting. He ended up getting a job 100 times better making 10 times as much money as he would have. So it was a good thing that everything worked out that way.
I hope that this is just a bump that helps you guys on to the right track. It's to bad there are so many companies that expect employees to be subhuman robots. Doesn't matter what a good job your doing. They kind of treat people like children. Make sure he gets unemployment and keeps all those documents stating he's allowed to talk to you at work. Best of luck finding a new job that understands people have families, and that they are more important than the job.

Sounds like the DH and OP texted during breaks and lunch. That wouldn't affect how much work the DH got done. Personally, if that's how the DH wants to spend his breaks and lunch, I don't think anyone should have an issue with it. Why would anyone care how he spent his break / lunch time as long as he's not being disruptive, doing something illegal, etc?

DH and I will text through out the day too. I don't expect him to respond right then. He has slow periods day's where he'll pretty much text all day and then busy "I'll see you when I get home" kind of days. His bosses know I'm high risk and he might need to leave at anytime to meet me at the hospital and are understanding about it bc one of their daughters is high risk to. We have the same dr group and are delivering at the same hospital.
