New here - about to start first IVF cycle

Hello ladies,

I just got a BFN this morning after round 5 of clomid/IUI so DH and I will be starting our first IVF cycle as soon as AF shows.  We have one daughter who turned 4 last week and we have been trying on and off (mostly on, never preventing) for three years.  We did 3 rounds of clomid/timed intercourse and two clomid IUI cycles before becoming pregnant with her.  I also have type 1 diabetes.  My doctor thinks that since I've been a good responder with clomid (2-4 follicles) our chances are better and overall at a lower cost to go straight to IVF instead of trying IUI with injectable meds.  I had one tube that was blocked for the first 3 cycles but only one of those had all the follicles on the blocked side.  We are working with an unexplained IF dx as DH's sperm count is good.  I guess I'm looking for support and a first hand perspective on what to expect with IVF.  I tend to do much better when I know what to expect and I just don't know what that looks like at this point.  IVF just feels way more overwhelming than IUI even cost aside.

IVF #1 Feb 2015 - 19 eggs retrieved, ZERO fertilized initially, 2 fertilized with rescue ICSI, then 2 more then following day, all 4 frozen
FET #1 planned for mid-March

    Welcome and good luck. I haven't done IVF yet either but it is a likely next step for me too. I agree- the thought of it is more overwhelming than the IUIs.

    My doc says that I am done with clomid for good at this point because I've had 10 rounds of it (mostly at 150 mg) and a recent study showed increased cancer risk at 12 life time cycles.  I think I'm as prepared emotionally as I can be but this whole process is so draining and I'm just ready to be pregnant already.

    Hello. Sorry you have to be here. Unfortunately no matter how much people will share about IVF, that first cycle will always be overwhelming and incredibly nerve wracking. There is just so much that goes into an IVF cycle, and so many factors that can make or break the cycle. I think the less you "know" the better.

    Welcome, and good luck. I've also maxed out my lifetime limit of clomid, and will likely be starting ivf stims with my next cycle. I have done 1ish IVF cycle (epic poor response/converted to IUI/bfp/mmc) so I'll recommend to just try to take it one day at a time and really be ready for any curveballs that may come your way.

    Two DDs 10/08 and 08/10, no primary IF
    TTC #3 since 10/2011 - dx unexplained/weak ovulation
     3 BFN clomid + TI cycles, 5 BFN clomid/gonal f IUIs, 1 mmc IUI
    2/19/2014 IVF #1 Unexpected low E2 (oversuppressed) -> increased to max doses = 3 or 4 follicles, converting to IUI
    BFFP Saw 1 beautiful heartbeat at 6w6d, follow up u/s at 9w showed mmc. Eff this.
    NTNP 5/2014-9/2014, OPKs and TI 10/2014 - 1/2015. 
    RPL testing all normal, AFC, AMH, and FSH all normal. 
    IVF 1.2 1/22/2014 natural cycle start, AFC 28, 300 gonal f/150menopur. 
    ER 2/3/15 14R 8M 3F w/ICSI Day 5 transfer on 2/8/15 of one "Grade A+" blast and have TWO frosties!

    Surgery scheduled 12/12/14 to fix possible isthmocele
    3/26/15 transferred one 8 cell grade 4 embryo and one 6 cell grade 3 embryo = slow rising betas for 2+ weeks = ectopic MTX shot 4/29/15
    Repeat c-scar surgery June 2015
    2nd and last IVF cycle August 2015, stimmed for 12 days, 2 egg retrieved, both mature and both fertilized.  Transferred both 8-cell embryos on Day 3, beta 9/5/15 = BFFN
    MOVING TO ADOPTION!

    Welcome and good luck!! Can I ask why your doc said it is an overall lower cost with IVF? My next step is injectables so I am just curious.  These ladies here are awesome and while the process can certainly be overwhelming, they are great to get insight and info!

    Welcome and good luck in your cycle! I have had much more anxiety this cycle than j did on our first one 3 years ago. Taking it one day at time is the best advice.
