  We don't do anything for Valentine's Day so that part wouldn't bother me personally, but I imagine it would be an issue for many others. I wouldn't love that it's a Saturday night, but if it was a close family member or child's good friend, we'd go. I'd really try to avoid planning a party on a Saturday Valentine's Day though.
  
  Most evening parties we've attended at venues have been on weeknights. I know the cost is substantially lower than a weekend afternoon, but it's hard with some parents' schedules.

  BTW...DH's "previous engagement"...his monthly poker. I think he will just have to skip a month. They offer Friday parties, but they start at 6pm and that is pushing it for a lot of people.
