Swing vs Mamaroo

When I was pregnant with my first child I got the entire arching set. swing bouncer ect. I had no other children all my space was devoted to him. Now I have a toddler who has claimed my livingroom as his play room and a new baby on the way. I was wondering if it was worth replacing the swing and bouncer with just the Mamaroo. Any feed back would be nice. Thank you.

Re: Swing vs Mamaroo

  • I don't know what a Mamaroo is (I will go google) but I have a toddler as well and will be trying our swing first, and then will get the bouncer out once baby is a little bigger.

I found DD only wanted one or the other, she used the swing a lot at first and once she started using the bouncer had no interest in being in the swing and I'm hoping baby will be the same.

That said, I've heard a lot of people say that their kids have no interest in the swing at all so I would be reluctant to buy something new without making sure baby at least likes the swing first. Maybe once you know baby likes it (and the bouncer too) you can look at replacing it?

  • I'm on baby #5 and will still be getting the swing and a bouncer. The mamaroo is an over priced piece that's just not worth it to me. Plus a lot of my friends that have forked out the cash said their kids hated it. I know my other kids loved the swing and bouncer. I'm going to stick with what I know works.
As for the toddler that's taken over all the space. You're going to have to make room for the new baby anyways. Your toddler is going to have to learn to share his space/time/things. Why wouldn't you start out with that in mind?
  • It seems like a lot of money to spend on something when you don't even know if the kid will like it.

I just ordered the mamaroo the other day. Giggle.com had it on sale for $173, so we figured what the heck. I know there's a chance that the kid won't like it, but there's that chance with any swing/bouncer. We checked around & it looks like people are able to resell them for about $200, so worst case the kid hates it & we break even.

ETA: I just checked, it's still on sale. It's silver one, but I really didn't care about the color or pattern. It doesn't include the infant insert, but we just added that to the registry from Amazon ($30 w/ prime shipping).

  • I was thinking Mamaroo (haven't bought anything yet though). It has really good reviews and takes up quite a bit less space. Your always going to have that chance that your child won't like it, but this just costs a little more. But like beckynsean11 said, they have a pretty good resale value so if your kid doesn't like it you could probably sell it on craigslist or something and get the majority of your money back.
  • I'm getting a Mamaroo because.. well have you seen them? They're awesome! I may even try and sit my big butt in it! But really, I agree with it pretty much being a crap shoot if your babe is going like one thing or another..
  • My friend gave me a swing so that is what we will use. If I had to purchase one myself I might have leaned towards the Mamaroo - based on some of this feedback though I don't know about spending that much money on something the baby might hate.

    This.

We have a Fischer Price cradle swing that plugs into the wall that we got second hand.  DS spent SO much time in that thing.  I would wait to see if your LO likes swings at all before spending so much on something.

  • We had one... hated it. All of my friends who have had one also hated it - I've literally heard not one success story. Even on the highest setting the motions are very subdued. The general consensus among people I know who've sold/returned them is that their baby (mine included) preferred the more defined/quick back-and-forth motion of the swing. Fisher Price Cradle-n-swing for life.

  • We had a swing and bouncer for DS1, we will use those again, but my SIL is going to let us use her mamaroo she got. Her son used it a handful of times, but doesn't like it, and since she has barrowed the other stuff from us, she wants to have something we can borrow from her, plu sthis way I will have something to put DS 2 in on every floor so I don't have to haul the bouncer around from floor to floor.

  • I have a friend who bought the mammroo and her little one LOVES it. I agree it's a risk though to buy it in advance in case the baby doesn't like it! We registrered for a swing.
  • Thanks for all the feed back. I think we are just going to stick with the swing we already own and not risk spending the extra money.
