Cloth Diapering

Dad Diaper Bag suggestion

Hi! My husband is going to be a SAHD for our little one. We are also going to be CD, so I was hoping that you may have a dad-friendly (i.e. not girly) diaper bag suggestion. We are mostly going prefolds/workhorses and covers... just for an idea of space needed... and obviously he'll still need to be able to carry bottles and such.

Thank you!

Yeah, I figured this would be a response. I am an organization junkie and need pockets and the open vat that is a backpack drives me nuts...

I guess i can use pouches to organize?

  • DH uses a leather satchel/briefcase - it looks professional, has tons of pockets, and manly enough that no one even knows there are diapers in there. We do pockets and I got him the circuits pattern Planetwise bag as well :)

  • A messenger style bag could work well too, as long as it's manly enough not to look like a purse.
I think for guys it's more about the color?
  • we have a Columbia diaper bag that is just black and plenty big enough.

  • Yeah look into Colombia, Eddie Bauer, LLBean, or any other outdoor brand day pack. Tons of pocket space and organizational compartments. And the things Ovenrack mentioned are pretty cool looking too!

We got the Skip Hop Duo in gray and green. No idea how it'll work in practice, but it seems good!
I have this bag, and I like it a lot. I let J pick the pattern (from a few I had narrowed down), and he has no problem carrying it. I just started with cloth, and I didn't think it held much, until I realized that I had been shoving diapers in there a couple at a time every time I went out. I didn't pay much attention, and seemed to end up with about six in there without much issue. I use pockets, some which are double stuffed with MF, so pretty bulky, and still works well. I particularly like the stroller clips on this one, and the compartments on the top that are not crazy deep (thus, not just a black hole for losing my stuff).

  • My husband was given a skip hop messenger style bag for his birthday, and when we were registering, I let him pick out another diaper bag (Skip Hop Bento).  Then he found it at Nordstrom Rack in better colors, so he bought it then.

We're also due in March, and this is our first, so no clue how either of these will work, but he's already bought into the choice so hopefully he'll carry them.

I started out with one of these and it was fine until we started spending significant amounts of time out in the stroller. It didn't hold very many diapers, and was difficult to get in our stroller basket, and our City Mini GT was not really balanced for hanging the bag on the handlebar.

A backpack style has worked much better for us. Fits in the basket but is also hands free for when we need to be wearing it.
