Birth Story!!!!

They are here!!! 12/26/14

Short version-
baby a: Matthew Wayne 4.1lbs 18 inches long 4:35pm
baby b: Andrew Thomas 4.4lbs 18 inches long 4:36pm

Room air and doing great!

Long Story:

Christmas morning at 6:10am Sarah's water broke with Baby A. Her parents were in town for Christmas so they were here for the birth. We went to 1 hospital and were sent to Duke because boys were only 32 + 5 weeks and could need level 3 NICU.

Ambulance transfer! Started on magnesium to hopefully stop labor. Got 1st steriod shot. 50% effaced and a finger tip dilated.

Once at Duke we had an MFM who's goal was to keep her pregnant ASAP. Contractions were then soooo close they were 1.5 min. Long coming 30 seconds apart. Magnesium increased and put on a pain medication through a self medicating pump (this!!!! Life saver!!!).

Contractions slowed to 17-20 min. Apart with no change to the cervix. They were talking about hospital bed rest. Made it to morning for 2nd steriod shot. Woo hooo! Magnesium stopped at this point. Contractions still slow. Mfm checks and she is 100% thinned and finger tip. Decision made to proceed today with c-section. Dr. Says see you in a few hrs. When she comes in she checks again to see how much they had to rush. She went from 1-4cm in 30 min. Time to hurry! Baby A trying to exit butt first!

C-section: I got to watch them come out!!! Mom and babies did great!!!

Currently: babies were only in NICU for 8.5 hrs. Now growing in special care nursery. While our story wasn't what we imagined at all...I love it.

12/26/14:
Baby A: Matthew Wayne, 4:35pm, 4.1lbs and 18 inches long
Baby B: Andrew Thomas, 4:36, 4.4lbs and 18 inches long.

Both are in special care and not NICU! Doing great and so are moms!

New Plan: Reciprocal IVF, me as carrier wife's eggs. Just went through insurance and received partial approval, so my part will go through my IVF benefits and wife's part will be out of pocket. Now just finalizing finance plans to cover the oop costs. Doctors office is in process of moving to a new building so there are no IVF start ups until March/April 2015.
