I did not sew anything like all you other crafty mama's but I did do some Christmas cradts for my kids and a chalkboard for my firends daughter who LOVES frozen.
My list of projects for the nursery: Staining 2 dressers to match the crib Doing 3 paintings on canvas Painting shelves to hang on the wall Painting and decorating a large wood "B"
MIL is working on making us valances, a blanket and pillow covers. I'm not a sewer so I'm letting her handle that.
I figure this would be a great place to ask for help learning to sew. I'm wanting to learn how to use a sewing machine and eventually work up to quilt making. I've checked in my area and didn't find any classes that fit what I wanted style/time/price wise.
Can anyone recommend a good machine to start with and perhaps, in your opinion a great website to use for tutorials, etc?
I've recently finished making homemade body scrubs and salt soaks for gifts this year and wreaths! I also plan to begin making some DIY cleaning products like detergent, although I don't think that falls under crafts.

Thanks in advance!
I've taken a couple of classes on craftsy.com that I thought were really helpful.

Thought I would join in on the fun Today I finished painting some trees on the nursery wall. Projects for this week (or next.. depending on how hard the lazy hits) are sewing curtains and a crib skirt. Dresser in the background was a $20 garage sale find that I sanded, refinished and added new hardware to. Voila! New dresser!
I've been crafting all week. Did 3 paintings and made a mobile so far this weekend. I sure hope the ultrasound tech was right when she said our baby is a girl or else our son will be coming home to a very feminine room.
@frownyface super cute! @specialsn0wflake I've never taken a sewing class but I take to pintrest and find things. But as far as machines go... Don't get anything crazy. The machine I use has all of like 10 different stitch settings and all I use is straight and one for button holes. Honestly just go with something simple. I don't know what you're wanting to sew but personally I don't think you need something with like 78 settings. Go simple, it'll make things easier to learn. I know brothers machines are popular and singer is a classic. If you can find a metal machine go for that they last much longer than the plastic but they're harder to find nowadays since things aren't made to last...
