So I have sadly given up Coffee and caffeine completely... I had originally planned on just cutting back to one cup of coffee a day, but DH read something along the lines that it's best to give it completely. I protested with him a bit, but I was touched that he cared so much so I just caved in. There have been some mornings though I've been tempted to sneak one once I got to work .
I've MOSTLY cut it out. But it isn't hard for me as I'm not a big coffee or soda drinker anyway. Iced Tea is hardest for me and I can make it decaf at home. I do have the occasional piece of chocolate (also not a huge chocolate eater so not hard to cut back) and the occasional sip of iced tea but in general I'm pretty much only drinking water because it seems to help with the nausea.
I gave up coffee the minute I found out I was pregnant. I did have some yerba mate tea a few days ago for a pick me up because I had to get stuff done around the house. I will have the odd cup of tea throughout this pregnancy but not very often. It's tough being so tired all of the time and not feeling motivated to do very much but it helps knowing the end result .
I switched to decalf about a month ago, but I crave coke so much. I haven't had a coke in three weeks and u think u would probably feel better if I had one. I and still drinking tea off and on, but it's not the same. #-o
Uh no, I have a job where I need to be on and productive. So I've cut back to one cup a day in the mornings, which is what my OB recommended. I cheated a bit today though and had a small cup this afternoon in addition to my morning cup.
During my first pregnancy I gave up caffeine. Since then it's been real easy to give it up again for my second pregnancy. The cravings well pass I promise.
I ditched coffee only because it makes me so unbelievably sick now. I've reverted to my college/law school habit of early morning Diet Coke or Diet Dr. Pepper -- I've found it helps settle my stomach so I can actually be productive. Otherwise I'd be completely useless everyday until 2pm.
I just read that the Center for Science in Public Interest is now saying that "current guidelines regarding caffeine intake during pregnancy are outdated." It also stated that a European study was done finding that even 100mg of caffeine per day increased the risk of miscarriage and other complications. This is what scares me.

I know exactly what paper that is. It was a meta-analysis (analysis of studies published), not an actual study, and the authors themselves acknowledged that the studies they analyzed suffered from publication bias, small size, and poor quality. There's a term for this - GIGO. Garbage in, garbage out. Big problem with meta-analyses which aren't careful to balance the quality of the studies they are including. They also stated that the association within normal consumption patterns did not have a strong association with adverse outcomes and shouldn't be the basis for decreasing recommendations. This is, unfortunately, a very common problem with science reporting, particularly around issues of health. People summarize them poorly, misunderstand what is meant, and then write sensational articles full of breathless horror at how we've been horribly lead astray all this time.

@kjknight07 that was a recent article! I saw it as well. I think it stated it increases risk by 14% but I don't know where they are getting those numbers .
I highly doubt that a cup or two of coffee (which would put you at 100mg or more of caffeine) is going to cause a miscarriage. For crying out loud, heroin and cocaine addicts have babies literally every day that, once weaned from the drugs, turn out normal, like a good friend's now healthy 5 year old adopted son. Caffeine isn't going to hurt the baby. Common sense, apparently, really isn't common for some women.
I was a cup of coffee every morning person before baby. And had the occasional diet coke, piece or two of chocolate, etc. it's been very hard here too. But my doc said a small cup of coffee is fine. Just to be safe I try to stick to a half a cup and not even every day. Usually 2-3x per week, if that. I do sneak chocolate but have completely cut diet coke and other drinks - like crystal light (some have caffeine!) it is hard. But hang in there. And I think a reward every once in a while is harmless.
I cut it completely buti had an additional motive because Iwhen I found out I was pg I quit smoking cold turkey and nothing went better with a ciggy than a good cup of coffee. So quitting coffee helped me quit smoking. But my other thing is the fact that anything sweet makes me want to hurl so I have been able to by pass cokes and teas as well... Good luck hun
@brittnilangley Congrats on quitting smoking!! I also quit cold turkey as soon as I got my BFP.. It wasn't easy but it's completely worth it & much easier to quit for the baby than it was to quit just for me.
I used to drink 3 to 5 bottles of diet pepsi a day before i found out (and it wad 3 to 5 bottles of it per day for the past 4ish years). Once i got my bfp, all diet pop and all caffine were cut from my diet. The very first day i thought i was going to die. But now, i have ginger ale (vernors mainly cuz im from michigan and the vernors slurpees at 7 11 are AMAZING) and i drink caffine free pepsi so i can have the pepsi taste once a week.

The slurpees are probably worse for you than caffeine. Obviously 5 Pepsis a day isn't good for anyone, but a moderate amount of caffeine is fine. The caffeine hysteria on here is ridiculous.
I cut back a lot. I was drinking approx. 600 mgs per day before BFP, now I drink between 80-200 mgs. I switched to half-caff coffee, it was a bit of an adjustment but I'm getting used to it now.
I absolutely love my coffee. Yes I'm one of those where the Starbucks barista knows my name, drink and what time I come in every morning. :-$ I crave it now that I'm about 5 or 6 weeks prego but when I buy one (just a kids sized latte) it actually makes me want to throw up. The idea of coffee sounds amazing but I just cant do it right now. For those of you who crave something warm in the mornings what have you switched to? Tea? Hot chocolate? It's a sad day for starbucks but I know in the end it's a much healthier choice.
Met with Doctor this morning and she let me know that 1 small caffeinated drink per day was just fine. So 1 cup of coffee, tea or soda is ok. Thank god, because I was getting some terrible caffeine withdrawl headaches!
My last pregnancy I gave up caffeine for the 1st trimester. Then I limited my self to one cup of coffee or one soda day. I'm planning on doing the same thing this time around but man is it hard!
I quit completely and got myself a non caffeinated pregnancy tea it's minty and nice caffeine wasn't hard to give up although I am glad I don't work at at coffee shop anymore!
I have cut back to 8-12 oz of coffee a day. I used to drink about 3-4 cups. I have discovered that I love Earl Grey Decaf. with honey and milk, so I don't feel deprived.

Yes, I gave up all cafeffine, coffee and soda. Sometimes I crave it and have actually daydreamed about how my body will react after going so long without it....then I realize everything I put into my body has an effect on the little turnip, and that is a huge reality check for me to keep going strong! Hang in there!!
