NBR: Any conceal carry mommas?

I've been on the fence about bringing a gun into my house for about a year but I think I'm ready to make the decision. I was wondering if you conceal carry, what do you carry? I'm thinking a .38 revolver, but am open to suggestions also. I should add that my dad is giving me one of his from his extensive collection, he pretty much has one of everything, so I'm narrowing down my list, then going to shoot them and see what I'm comfortable with.

I do want the gun to have a safety just because I have 2 littles in the house when this one arrives.

I have a ruger SR9C. I like that it fits into my hands and my husband is also comfortable shooting it. I would love to have a revolver but it's low on our budget list right now. We just went to the shooting range where they would rent out guns and try several until we found one we liked. We chose the ruger because my husband is left handed and he would drop mags on some of the S&Ws due to the release location.

I have a S&W .38 with a laser sight. I've had it for quite awhile, but chose a revolver for reliability.

Rossi .357 revolver here. It's a little heavy but has a ton of knock-down, so I'm happy with it.

I have a Sig P938 that fits in the palm of my hand (size wise) but it is still a 9mm which was a big requirement of mine. Mine came with amazing night sights and I also like the ambidextrous safety as I am left handed. I wanted the P239, but my Dad gifted me with the 938 so I'm not going to complain.

I have a glock 21 gen 4. It's a .45 and I've had my conceal carry for awhile now. DH and I have just begun talking about the best options for a new way to store it with a child coming into our home.

DH wants me to get a conceal carry, I have yet to feel 100% comfortable and I won't until I am. But we looked at a .38 that I held briefly. Very simple pull trigger, no magazines. I need to go to a range and try some out.

I don't have my carry permit, but have been debating getting it with the LO coming. DH has a carry permit and is always carrying something. I honestly couldn't name half of his collection.

He has a few 9 mm that he wants me to try. I think his .357 magnum would be too hard to conceal but might be a good home defense. There is also a .45 but it's pretty heavy. I've also heard good things about Taurus! So many choices.

Is there anything about your guns that seem like a drawback now that a little is or will be in the home? How do you store it when not carrying?

For now, my carry is in my drawer when I'm not going on any trips anywhere. When DS comes, it will be locked in my gun safe with the rest of our guns. Our safe is in a totally separate room up a flight of stairs. Nothing is stored loaded and extra magazines are always empty also. Ammo is stored in another gun safe. (My dad, brother and DH have their hobby obviously lol).

You can get a small safe type box to put it in if you are looking for a affordable storage. They are similar to the ones that can be kept in a vehicle if my brain is thinking correctly at this hour.

I personally didn't like shooting revolvers because I pinched my fingers several times . I carry a Taurus 9mm it's smooth, and hardly any kick. It is a little bigger however. If you want something sleek with a little less kick you should try a .380 or something smaller like that. I suggest heading to the range to rent/try different guns. Never carry a gun you haven't shot. When I was looking for guns I ended up picking something completely different then I had originally thought I wanted.

I have a CCP but I don't have a carry gun yet!:) DH wants to get me a Ruger LC9. I like the feel of it but we haven't had an opportunity to shoot one yet!

I carry a Ruger .38+P LCR . I'm a huge fan and I enjoy shooting it but I think you have the right idea as far as shooting to see what caliber you're comfortable with.

I have a Walther PK380 with laser sight. Comfortable to carry and shoot. I use Remington hollow point ammo.
I have 2 small children in the home already and when it is not on my person it is kept in a locked safe.

@Alygohome‌ and @digwriter‌ I'm with the two of you in my defensive weaponry. The best I have are my finger nails, and I just chipped my thumb nail. My dog's pretty protective, though. I used to sleep with a steak knife under my mattress when I lived alone, but now I have my husband as my decoy. ;-)

For the longest time the police weren't allowed to carry guns in the Atlantic provinces. NL was among the last to adopt them. When I went away to university I saw my first hand gun on a cop while outside drunkenly waiting for a cab. I was so floored (and drunk) I obnoxiously yelled out "holy shit, you have a gun!". The cop then told me that yes he has one but none of the cops in his unit had ever fired theirs while on duty. I'll never forget seeing my first handgun, it blew my mind!

I have a Ruger LCP and its small and perfect for conceal carry. But never carry in your purse always habe it on you, because if they steal your purse they also have your gun now. DH has every gun you can think of. We just got a small gun safe for our handguns and we have a large safe in DHs closet. He doesn't plan on letting our son know we have guns until he's like 10.

I also have the Ruger LCP that DH gave me as a wedding gift. I don't mind the long trigger pull but it does take getting used to. @Ace226‌ definitely try out the Ruger 9mm first. It has a long trigger pull and an additional safety that I just couldn't draw and shoot fast enough.
I just bought myself a Too Cute Tote with a concealed carry pocket. I LOVE it! They are fully customizable with colors, fabrics, pockets, etc. My sister has one for a diaper bag and really likes it. Just be sure to practice drawing your weapon and tactical shooting with any bag or holster, not just target shooting from a perfect stance at a table.

A great Facebook group for arms carrying women is The Well Armed Woman. They have great tips on how to wear concealed carry under clothing, and self defense tips. I don't have any myself (yet) but I like to keep up on reading/research.

Don't have my carry permit yet but hubby's is about to expire so we'll prob both go when it's time for him to renew. Just sold my glock 23 (.45 cal) and eventually plan to get a glock 42. Much smaller and better for concealment. We also plan to get a nice safe in the next couple years. Right now the majority of hubby's collection is stored at his parent's house in their safe.

I don't carry, but have a Ruger SP101 revolver. It gives me the flexibility to shoot .357 or .38 and it super simple (no clip/jamming, etc.). The idea was for me to have a gun I know well and am very comfortable with. I'm not comfortable carrying, so I've never pursued that route. All of our guns are in a safe at all times, as I am not comfortable relying on a safety alone...

I have a Colt .357 and a Taurus .380. I typically don't carry a gun but the Taurus is the gun I purchased to carry. It fits in my hand comfortably and doesn't take up all the space the .357 does. If you are getting a gun from your father take your time firing a few and pick the one you feel the most comfortable with.

Also ask him which brand of ammo fires the best from whatever gun you chose. Different manufacturers have different recommendations for ammo and it can make difference although if you pick a revolver it won't matter much. Hope that helps!

I have my Conceal Carry license but don't cc much yet. I have a Springfield XDM 9mm. Love to shoot it, but feel that it's slightly large for my cc.

I can't get accustomed to the long trigger pull on the Ruger LCP. I like some of the Sig 380s but $$$. Want to try the S&W Shield and Bodyguard.

We also have an AR-15 and another 22 caliber rifle in the house. Pregnancy brain is causing me to forget the make and model at the moment (both belong to hubbys uncle). I'm thinking about getting hubby a Kimber 1911 for Father's Day this year. First celebrated Father's Day, I think we should make it special!

I'm not concerned about having guns in the house with a child. Its going to be a few years before she even can start roaming the house on her own. Plus we have them all locked up in a large gun safe in the closet of our room, with a lock on that door as well. My Cobra is in hubbys nightstand drawer in a combo/fingerprint lock box. She wouldn't be able to get to any of them if she tried. When she's old enough, that is when we will teach her gun control and safety.

I have a .12 gauge shotgun on my side of the bed and DH has a .45 on his side of the bed. I also have a S&W .22 rifle. In our living room, we have a beautiful wooden and locked gun case that holds about 6 more guns.

We are definitely firearm enthusiasts but I hope I NEVER have to use it for protection. Which is why I chose to keep the shotgun on my side of the bed. When you cock that gun, it's a universal sound that will scare anyone. Another reason why I chose the shotgun for protection, is because you don't have to aim very well.

I used to want a .38 special snub, but after going to the range and seeing the lack of accuracy on it, I decided against it.

Now with LO on her way, I'm going to put the shotgun and the rifle in the gun case with the others. DH's .45 is in a locked case in his nightstand and I have familiarized myself with shooting that gun, if ever needed, and he isn't home. Other than protection, we enjoy going out to the range and shooting our investments.

FYI: DD was crawling and climbing things by 9 months, walking by 12 months. Even before she was walking she would get into everything, including drawers and crawling up bookshelves. It sounds like you have everything locked up but be sure to do some extra baby proofing!

@Alygohome‌ I'm with you on the bear spray... But I think ours is expired. Make sure you check the dates, because it becomes ineffective over time. I got to do bear spray awareness and training with my work because we spend so much time alone in the woods. Went out to a gravel pit and used up some expired bear spray.

It's great to get some experience with it, because they really only fire about 2-3 feet, and if you have a headwind, it's less. And painful. I got a whiff and I was coughing for quite a while. While all the grizzled old men giggled about it.

The first gun I ever saw (aside from the one the RCMP carry around) was when I was in England for my fourth year of university on an exchange program. A security guy was totally walking around the train station in Manchester with what I think was an assault rifle. I was a little stunned.

Just a totally foreign concept to me to be carrying a gun around... Or even have one in the house.

Doctor cleared me to shoot anything under 44 caliber so weather permitting (it's actually forecasted to snow in Vegas) we'll be going out Thursday or Sunday to shoot.

I'm excited to finally make my decision. You all have awesome advice! I will definitely let you know what the options are when I know and what I chose :-)

I must be the only one on here from up north since it's pretty clear you all are still stuck in the days of the confederate. As a soon to be mom, I find it frightening that you would all carry knowing all of the horrible things that have happened this year because of guns. Ummm sandy hook strike ANY chords with you?? If any of those children were yours I would hope you would be singing a different tune. I'm sure you all believe that you could keep it safe but all it takes is one sleep deprived mom to forget to lock the drawer and there goes another life. are you that fearful where you live that you feel the need to have a gun on you? If so there are other ways to combat that fear. Please please I beg you all to reconsider. We have so many issues to overcome in this country- including the misuse of guns by our own police force. Let's not add to the problem.

End rant- and sorry if I've offended but this is one thing I can't sit by and be quiet on.

Kids finding unlocked guns and what happened at sandy hook are completely different although horribly tragic situations. My gun will not be used to commit mass murder, especially not on children. As a teacher I feel even more compelled to have a gun due to the risk of some crazy person invading my school and I'd rather put them down than witness my students die.

Also having two small children in car seats makes me a target. It sucks but that is our reality. As I said when I posted I've been researching and discussing this topic for well over a year. I will be taking classes. I am not going to make this an accessible tool to anyone but myself.

The ladies here are very well educated on the topic. The sad truth is yes, I feel that with what is going on in my city I need extra protection. That does not make me a child killer.
