My mom & I put together the baby's dresser last night! It looks great. We are going to buy a lamp today & maybe some storage shelves. Then we're washing all the baby clothes. Yay! It's becoming a little more real...
We spent all day yesterday looking for a small dresser/changing table. No luck. I was hoping for a small white shabby chic-style dresser but they're hard to come by.
Also, saw Birdman last night. Movie was good but it was a lot of yelling and loud scenes. Felt really bad wondering if baby could hear and if the fighting would scare her. Irrational, probably, but I felt like a bad mommy...
Morning! Breakfast in bed for me too! (ETA: DH made crepes!!! I'm the luckiest girl)
Then it's back to painting LO's dresser and bookcase. I put one coat on yesterday (after two coats of primer Friday), but it's such a dark color that it's going to take at least two more coats. And I'm cursing the dental molding on the bookcase that must be painted with a craft brush!
Good morning everyone I really need to start getting my sons newborn clothes out and see what I want to use for baby. I need to start getting things ready. I'm super behind!
NYE will be spent huddling in the house while it sounds like war is raging outside, seriously. We live in a community with no restrictions on fireworks. In fact, as you enter our parish (county for non-Louisianans) from the next one over, there are at least five big fireworks stands. Although it's a rural area, we live in a subdivision, so the houses are close. Our redneck neighbors go overboard with mortars and other big fireworks. It sounds like battle is raging from all sides and is legitimately scary.
We would just leave, but our dog is terrified of fireworks to the point of being destructive, so we stay home with him. Before I moved in with DH, he would bring the dog over to my house in the parish with firework restrictions, but now we don't have any place to go. When we went out of town for Fourth of July, we had to board the dog a town over and request that he be put in the quietest part of the kennel. I hate NYE here.
I fell down the stairs yesterday. I slid all the way down on my butt. Called my midwife, as long as baby keeps kicking, no bleeding, etc, I should be fine. But my husband whole family is staying with us so of course were all concerned about the pregnant lady falling down the stairs. So embarrassing! I'm such a klutz. Also, I already had some back pain but now my lower back and butt are miserable! /whine
@Adele 1981 oh no. I'm glad your mw isn't concerned and you are OK!
I got a donut in bed. Not fancy but it made me one happy lady!
H and I plan on taking a nap on nye then trying to stay up til midnight. I miss when all my friends and I lived in the city. It was so easy to get together. I don't really want to go out and drive nye.
Eta Adele it doesn't not want me to tag you. Weird.
@CoozieInMyPurse our dog is the same way. I hate it and we never go out if we can help it on fireworks occasions.
We are at breakfast at our favorite place in my H's hometown before we fly out. No breakfast in bed but this place is awesome!
Flying home today and then I'm off till Friday! I'm gonna clean the house and organize. We have a file cabinet that is empty, and boxes of files that need sorted and need a home. Anybody jelly?? also I want to be able to scrap book a little.
I have my GTT on tues. Now I'm regretting doing it this week but I really had no choice. I really didn't do bad with holiday eating to be honest though. Hope I pass. Also getting my tdap and rhogam.
Good morning!!! No new years plans here. My hubby decided to take overtime since it pays $70 an hour to watch a low key concert for a family friendly event. So I will be putting my 18 month old to bed and opening my sparkling grape juice and finishing my book.
My random GOOD news is that my 16 year old cousin finally came out and told everyone he was gay. He did it on fb and tagged a whole bunch of family. I am beyond proud and happy he was able to finally do this.
Wow I'm impressed and jealous of you ladies pretty much having everything done!!
Question-we have a double dresser that sits lower that is capable of being a changing table. But I will need to buy the wooden thing that you anchor to the top and then put the changing pad in that. Any ideas of where to get that? We got the furniture at jc Penney and there is nothing like that that would go with it.
DH and I hiked part of the Appalachian Trail yesterday in Nantahala National Forest. I told him I was total beast mode for doing it at 30+ weeks pregnant (I took a lot of breaks and went slow). I think because this pregnancy has been relatively easy he just assumes I can do all the things to the same level I was able to do them before I got KU, so sometimes I feel like I have to remind him that is not the case.
We then ate at the worst Cracker Barrel in the US (service wise). It wasn't even crowded and it took us 20 minutes just to get water and that was after my H asked to speak to a manager.
Regardless, our little Christmas trip pre baby has been fun. More hiking today and then home tomorrow. Then work on Tuesday. Booo.
@healthyfor2 you're supposed to anchor something to the top for the changing pad? We are using my old desk and never anchored anything. Uh oh.
Eta we do have a good layer of non skid stuff keeping it from sliding everywhere. That has worked just fine for us.
Yeah that's what I mean, I need to find the wooden thing to anchor to it! I saw some at buy buy baby maybe I can look there for one to match now that I have my furniture.
I haven't gone out on NYE in years - and I don't have any kids besides the one that is cooking. It's always cold here and I am usually partied out by the 31st.
We often do a sleepover at our house for friends' kids that night - its their wedding anniversary - but this year we are free. DH will cook a nice dinner and we'll cozy it up.

-----quote---- I think they also sell changing pads that have an anchor built in. You attach that piece to the back of the dresser like you would anchor a TV or bookcase to the wall. I don't think it's necessary to fence the changing pad in, which is how I'm imaging what you are talking about.

I'm not buying one of those -- I've seen them on Amazon (maybe search by brand?) but they're $100-$200 it seems!! Ridiculous!! I just bought a changing pad & will not leave him unsupervised while being changed. (Granted, my changing pad is the Keekaroo peanut pad, so it's not going to slide easily -- but you could just put some of that rubber cabinet liner/rug pad stuff under a regular one, probably.) My mom did the same thing with a regular pad on a regular dresser & never had a problem. IDK - obv depends on your comfort level, but I've seen a ton of nursery pics online with just a plain pad on top of a plain dresser.
ETA: @Adele 1981 who cannot be tagged -- hope your bottom feels better soon! That sucks. I did the same thing a few weeks ago & was talking about it at work. My co-worker told me she fell down the stairs just like that & abrupted her placenta at 29 weeks. She had a sense that something was wrong and contractions started shortly afterwards though. Her doc blew her off!! Baby was ok except for hydrocephalus. I can hardly believe that kind of a fall could cause that -- almost wonder if it was already happening & the fall just made it completely abrupt.
Thanks @CoozieInMyPurse and @mangomimosa. I definitely won't be leaving her unsupervised but still wanted some way to make sure it's secure
My changing pad that I got from target was like the one @CoozieInMyPurse said. We nailed the strap to the back of the dresser so it doesn't fall off (not that we ever left the baby alone ) but just added security.
ours was like this too with the strap on it to attach to the back of the dresser, it also had a "nonskid" backing on the bottom. we intended to nail/screw it to the dresser but never did. the nonskid backing worked just fine for us and eventually I would take to changing pad and put it on the floor for after his bath. Our floors are wood and would not have been comfortable without it.
I am a bridesmaid in a wedding on NYE and I'm really hoping I can do my duties and make it til the reception ends at 1am. Planning to take lots of preparatory naps in the next few days! Luckily I don't go back to work until Jan 5.
I feeling really puffy and large. To make me feel better my H showed me a picture on FB of a friend of his to make me feel better - she is 5 years older than me (In her 40s) and due in Feb.
She looked perfect - round little bump, no swelling, no spreading nose...and my H said - see she doesn't even look pregnant. Why would you want to look like that? You look so cute roly poly and pregnant. I know he meant well - but it made me cry. I'm having body issues and it makes me feel good that my H finds me attractive, but I wish he had picked a better way to demonstrate it.
We're pretty bitter here today since H has been in first place in his pick em league for like 10 weeks and it looks like he's about to lose it all. The winner gets $600 (
We went to see the Hobbit last night. I have to agree with those that say if you take the trilogy and edit it down to a 2 and a half hour movie, it could've been fantastic.

Completely agree - but dh and I are such Tolkien geeks, we ate most of it up pretty easily anyway. I do think this third one may have been the weakest, but we still had a great time.
We are having painters come in to fix the trim paint in several rooms on Tuesday. We just moved crap all around each room so they could get to the trim. It's really bothering the nesting in me. I want to organize, not make things look worse!
Three coats (+ two primer coats) and LO's dresser is STILL not done! I think I'm going to have to roll the flat surfaces one more time to get the coverage I want. But the color, a deep navy, looks great!
We had to go to a funeral for H's aunt today, so I was just able to catch up. I hope everyone who is sick is feeling better and hugs to all who need them.
At the funeral, we saw my SIL who will be our son's Godmother (or Ninang, because H is Filipino). She won't be able to come to our shower, so she gave us her gift today. It is so sweet, I'm just going to AW it here, including the inscription in the book.
So I just spent 2 grand on our new "healthy" puppy we bought my husband. The poor baby is so sick, and absolutely infested with worms. It's so heartbreaking because my husband waited for him for weeks, and we finally got him only for him to be sick:( on top of that, there's now the risk of us getting it, a smaller risk, but still a risk. My house has never been sprayed with so much disinfectant. I'm so worried that beni(the puppy) isn't going to make it and that my babies are going to get sick.
DS has started talking about his birthday. We usually have a bash. We want him to live life to the fullest and for us it's a celebration of making it one more year in good health. I just can't get motivated. His birthday is the first week of February and I am already tired, miserable, swollen. We are probably going to rent out his pool and do cake and ice cream( they only allow 1/2 hour for food), but he also wants Spider-Man there. I feel like we have set the bar a little too high in the past. Lol
To whoever said their belly button was looking kinda funny, I think I got ya beat. As mine progresses to outie, I've noticed this dark part in the very center. I thought maybe lint or dirt (gross I know) even though I clean it and am a clean person. Well. Was looking at it today and I swear it looks like there's a teeny tiny little nipple or something there!! Like a little bump but I swear to you all it resembles a nipple. So, I'm a freak. It feels funny and I keep touching to see if it's still there. I really hope the whole thing doesn't progress to full on outie because eww. I don't want anyone to see this!!

Ahhhhh love it!! I was telling my mom and yes I sent her a pic. She said yes it does look nipplish. I said usually extra nipples go along the mammary lines, under the others. She said maybe yours is best to be hidden like it is. Thanks ma.

@sweaver93 Did you get a health guarantee with the puppy? I think most all respectable breeders provide one, unless you unknowingly bought from a puppy mill. I hope the puppy pulls through, that really sucks.
He came with a "certification" that he was healthy. Unfortunately the vet listed is no longer in business, hasn't been for a few months. We also found out we aren't the only ones who have complained to the sherifs office about them, and they are considered a puppy mill. Everything I had seen and heard from their references made them seem like awesome people who loved their dogs. So far he seems to be doing a tiny tiny bit better and isn't throwing up thankfully. He just won't eat. It's going to be a long night.

A brush coat might give you better coverage - that's what we had to do on top of primer/roller coats on the dresser we painted. We used high gloss in a deep blue on a pine dresser.
@sweaver93 oh no, poor puppy and that sucks you've spent so much unplanned money on the little guy. What kind of worms does he have? Hookworm? If there is a risk of you getting it, I'd suggest having DH clean up after him. I hope he makes it and improves quickly.
We know for sure its roundworms, and the possibility of hookworms, though we've just seen the roundworms. we were still waiting to get all the tests back which stinks because I figured we would've gotten them before we left. Dh is out of town for work, he left the day we got the puppy and is gone until the baby is born unfortunately. My concern is him stepping in his messes, and tracking it inside. We got all sorts of info on incubation periods and all that fun stuff, so we should be good, but I just worry that it's already too late and he's tracked it back in.

Thanks! I'll look into that the next time I get a furniture painting whim. I think tinted primer would have helped, too, but I primed before I decided on a color.
Re: Easy like Sunday Morning (Sunday Randoms)
Anyone doing anything fun for NYE?
Also, saw Birdman last night. Movie was good but it was a lot of yelling and loud scenes. Felt really bad wondering if baby could hear and if the fighting would scare her. Irrational, probably, but I felt like a bad mommy...
Happy Sunday, ladies. What's for breakfast?

Check out this old post on Young House Love (I'm bummed they've quit their blog) for more on anchoring a changing pad. It's near the end of the post - https://www.younghouselove.com/2014/02/changing-tables-and-our-minds/.
As for NYE plans, my friend is having a party. im very curious if ill enjoy myself or just wish I was in bed.
