1) we live in Los Angeles. Born and raised. With the exception my 4 years in college where the great state of PA adopted me.
2) generally sunny year round. No real seasons out here.
3) We live in a 1 bedroom apartment.
4) YES!!! We need at least a 2 bedroom apartment. I have a 6 year old step son that is only w us every other weekend, but his bed + our bed + baby crib/stuff is NOT doable in a 1 bedroom. I just need to get thru the holidays and then I'll start looking.
We live in Amish country, Ohio, not the touristy part but the backwoods REAL old school Amish type area. Cold winters and hot summers, pretty standard stuff for this part of the U.S. I believe. It is seriously gorgeous up here in the fall, like postcard pretty. We are surrounded by a whole bunch of hills and the colors are just breath taking. Winter is also lovely expect for the millions of hills around here that once the roads get crappy just forget it you are not going much of anywhere until it thaws. We currently live in a trailer and nearly have our land paid for so we are hoping to build in the not to distant future. Space is challenging but I know many people who have done more with less so we are making it work. This was the best/cheapest way for us to get exactly the house we want.
1) Where are you from? Or what area of the US? Were you born there? I live in North Carolina and think it's decent here.
2) What's the vegetation and weather like over there? Climate description. I live in the middle of NC so we have nice summers and okay winters. Not too cold, but I hate cold weather anyway so I view anything cold as terrible. lol
3) Do you live in a house, apartment, subdivision, condo, mobile home....? Right now my fiance and I live in an apartment but are moving at the beginning of January into our house! Super excited to have a 3 bedroom house with a fenced-in yard. Fiance even gets his own room for all of his crap! (Well for a couple of years anyway)
4) Are you looking to move anytime soon or are you set? Well I kind of screwed myself since I didn't know I was getting pregnant so soon. So I bought a new car back in June and because of that and getting stuff paid off before the baby comes, we don't have the funds to put down towards buying a house yet. Where we are moving is a great place to begin and even comes with the option to buy after 2 years. I am a girl that likes living in the country and not the city so that is the only draw back. But who knows there is a chance we love it and stay there.
1). Where are you from? Or what area of the US? Were you born there?
Born & raised in NYC suburbs. About a 25min train ride to NYC and 20min car ride to the beach. We live in the town that DH grew up in and next to the town I grew up in. So we have both of our families within minutes
2). What's the vegetation and weather like over there? Climate description.
We have all 4 seasons. Winters get cold and we had a lot of snow last winter especially. Summers get pretty hot and humid. Although this last summer wasn't as hot as I would like. I always tell my mom she should have moved our family to FL bc we all LOVE the summer and complain all winter long. Now it's too late to move-we could never leave our families
3). Do you live in a house, apartment, subdivision, condo, mobile home....?
We bought our "forever home" when I was pregnant with DD and after tons of renovations, moved in a week before my due date. There are still lots of renovations to do (right now we are almost done finishing the basement) and we have a nice size yard to expand our home if we want to eventually. It is 4-5 bedroom (4 on the 2nd floor plus 2 large attic spaces that can be finished for additional bedrooms)
3) Are you looking to move anytime soon or are you set?
We don't plan on moving. I was not crazy about the house when we bought it (I was super preg and pretty much hated life at that point) but I love the renovations we have done. And there is still a lot more potential. The location is perfect for us-a wonderful community with an elementary school/ playground around the block from us. Our neighbors are wonderful and we have lots of friends with young children that live here-it makes me happy that DD will start school with so many kids she already knows bc she is super shy
1). Where are you from? Or what area of the US? Were you born there?
Currently live and work Northern VA/ Washington DC. Not born here ...NorCal Girl!
2). What's the vegetation and weather like over there? Climate description.
Humid - cold in the winter (could be worse) and hot in the summer...rain all year long I feel like.
3). Do you live in a house, apartment, subdivision, condo, mobile home....?
We have a condo
3) are you looking to move anytime soon or are you set?
Yep ready to get off the East Coast for sure been here almost 5 years and that was pushing it. We will move to Northern California as soon as I can after baby arrives and are SOOOO excited about it.
1). Where are you from? Or what area of the US? Were you born there? Southern Iowa 2). What's the vegetation and weather like over there? Climate description. Farm land. Its cold in the winter (we have been very fortunate this last week, 40s and 50s) and typically a fair amount of snow, however the last few years have been mild. Hot and humid in the summer- which i love 3). Do you live in a house, apartment, subdivision, condo, mobile home....? I live in a TINY house in our small town but we are in the building process and will be moving to the "subdivision" sometime around June next year 3) are you looking to move anytime soon or are you set?
Opps...see above. We are currently building, same town though.
I live in a small town about 30 minutes from reno. So best (and worst) of both worlds.! Very hot summers; very cold winters. We have yet to get snow though this year which is really weird for us.
Right now were in our own double wide but want to move after baby is born...as of right now. This choice changes every other day so we'll see how we feel tomorrow.
My cousin lived in Garderville, NV. We used to go there every summer. I miss it
We live in the dc area. DH is from the south and I'm from a few hours north The weather is mild as far as winter, snow 4_5 times per year, but summers can get HOT and there is no ocean nearby like we've been used to for the past few years so no awesome breezes. We live in a one bedroom apt because we were purposely trying to save up and get ahead on my student loans, etc. Then we found out we were preggers! So this will be a fun challenge bc we found out only 2 months after signing a 2 year lease! We will have to move when he gets new orders in about a year and a half now. I can't wait, and hope we go somewhere by the ocean again....
Looks like I'm the only one in Missouri! I'm a transplant from SoCal, my H is from Philly, and we moved to Indiana several years ago for his job and recently relocated to the St. Louis area. We get all four lovely seasons here, but the winters are relatively mild and the summers stupidly hot. The mosquitoes are brutal.
We lucked out with our house--it's technically a 3 bedroom, 3 bathroom house, but the previous owners had half a dozen kids and built in 3 more bedrooms into the finished basement that don't technically count as bedrooms in real estate language, and since there was a ton of work to be done on the house we bought it for practically nothing without going through an agent because we knew people who knew the sellers. It's a 1950's ranch and I've learned that in the remodeling world one must come to terms with one's 1950's tile walls in bathrooms and the kitchen unless one wants to tear the walls down.
We don't have any plans to move. This isn't my favorite place I've ever lived, but it's affordable, it's a good community, and I never want to move ever ever ever ever again in my life.
I *just* moved from St. Louis this summer. We were there four years and I can say I actually miss it (except for the hot summers). It is such a kid-friendly place to live. You'll love the Magic House in Kirkwood and the Zoo is free for the first hour after it opens in the summer. The Christmas Lights display in Tilles Park in the 'burbs of Brentwood is fantastic, too! Best of luck to you in STL!
1. H and I both grew up in Michigan, but we moved to the DC metro area after college and have been here 9 years now, so it's definitely home at this point.
2. Coming from MI, we both actually really like the climate in DC. Summer can be extremely muggy, but spring and fall are so beautiful, and it's sunnier in the winter than what we grew up with. The look of the vegetation is pretty similar to MI, but with a few more Southern plants - more flowering trees like magnolias, for example.
3. We bought a rowhouse a year ago. It is small by other areas' standards, but it works great for our family. We just need to add a second bathroom! Before that, we rented a variety of apartments and one house in both DC and Northern VA.
4. We would prefer not to spend the rest of our lives in DC. It is really hard to strike the right balance of affordable house, manageable commute, and good public schools. Almost impossible, in fact. We would like to be somewhere else before our kids are in late elementary school. We will have more financial freedom at that point, since our grad school loans will be paid off. We're a bit tied to our inflated DC salaries at this point.

May 2015 signature challenge for January: "You had ONE job!"
1). Where are you from? Or what area of the US? Were you born there?
I live in Brooklyn. I was born in Ecuador and grew up in Argentina and Providence, RI.
2). What's the vegetation and weather like over there? Climate description.
Hot, humid summers most years. Winter can vary - some years we get a lot of snow and below-freezing weather, some years are mostly in the 40s.
3). Do you live in a house, apartment, subdivision, condo, mobile home....?
We live in a duplex penthouse condo with a roof deck. It's pretty nice by NY standards, I can't complain. Most previous apartments I lived in were literally falling apart.
3) are you looking to move anytime soon or are you set?
I'm flexible on where I live, so it basically depends on my husband's career (he's an actor). I love being able to take the subway anywhere at any hour and having so many shops, restaurants, other conveniences, and people nearby. However, our neighborhood is ugly and polluted and I'm pretty tired of northeast winters. So I could go either way. If I moved I would probably have to learn to drive though!
1). Where are you from? Or what area of the US? Were you born there? We live in southern Mississippi, about an hour from the gulf coast (Biloxi, Pascagoula, etc.)
2). What's the vegetation and weather like over there? Climate description. The weather is hot and humid most of the time. It's pretty much always almost Summer, Summer, and still Summer here. With a few cold days randomly thrown in there. I wish we saw more of the "change" of the seasons, and get a little more snow, but it is what it is. I love it here anyway!
3). Do you live in a house, apartment, subdivision, condo, mobile home....? We are in the process of fixing up our first home that we own together. It's a mobile home, but it's temporary while we build our house. We were lucky enough to be given about 10 acres from my parents to use as we like.
3) Are you looking to move anytime soon or are you set? We will move once we get our trailer fixed up (hopefully by February!). After that, we will start the preperations to build our house on the same piece of land.
@chailife34 I grew up in the suburbs of wilmington, DE. I went to grade-high school there too. I almost went to UD but had to get away for a while. I have tons of friends who went there. My father and sister are dentists right there on Main St. though. I dated a guy from Middletown for a while way back when. My best friends family also lives there. I'm sure our paths have crossed somehow too!

My cousin lived in Garderville, NV. We used to go there every summer. I miss it
I've been there a few times, I have relatives in Dayton which is about half hour from there.
So it sounds like I'm probably in good company in that I was born & raised in Virginia (Southeast corner, right along the VA/NC line) and we currently live in SC like several other folks on the board.
I grew up close to the beach and I have missed being near the water since I went off to law school a zillion years ago. When I finished up I moved back to the NoVA area and that's where I met DH. We moved to SC from DC (with a short stopover in the ATL so DH could train for a year) and I can't say I'm unhappy with the change given the improvement to the cost of living and the traffic in general. We do miss our friends and family that were more easily accessible when we were still in VA....and in my heart, I love the Old Dominion. The seasons are just perfection and it's a gift to live in a state where both the mountains and the coast are easily accessible.
SC isn't much different, though fall leaves something to be desired. I adore summertime though too, and while we don't live close enough for my taste, we are an easy drive down to Charleston and the rest of the SC sea islands....it's a beautiful piece of the country, no doubt. While I miss getting a little snow here and there in the winter, I'm not complaining about the weather. We took DS to the part after church and it was glorious to get outside without a jacket in mid-December. DH is an upstate NY native and he's had enough snow and ice to last a lifetime, so we're pretty committed to staying in the Southeast.
We live in a 4br house in a pretty run-of-the-mill subdivision. I do love that we have a lot of mature trees in the neighborhood though....I hate those new developments where every tree has been clear cut. So boring and sterile.
We're on the fence as to whether we're here for good or are headed back to VA. As I mentioned before, there's a lot to miss about being in VA and DH's job may well bring us back there in a handful of years if he stays with the feds. I work for a non-profit that is HQ'd in NoVA and the opportunities for me to transition there are very strong, so going back wouldn't be a big hurdle job-wise. Any hesitation we have is largely built on the ridiculous cost of living and the traffic....neither of those is going away and they just suck in general. Meh, no matte what happens we'll figure it out and it'll be just fine. No worries either way.
@SaltyH2O where in NoVA do you hail from? we love NoVA and lived in Reston for years. I grew up in Fairfax and it was very hard to leave (but muuuuuch easier on our budget)
I don't actually hail from NovA (I'm from Chesapeake originally). When I was there initially I lived with some college friends in the Courthouse area of Arlington and it was a blast from that "single & loving it" perspective. Later on DH and I bought a place in Fairfax (near Penderbrook) and that's where we were for most of our stint.
There was definitely much to love and hate at the same time, you know? Access to restaurants, shopping, multiple airports, concerts and sporting events was AWESOME and we did a ton of running up and down the road to the beach (Outer Banks) every year. That said, the cost of living and traffic were a nightmare that I don't miss!
Completely agree - great access to everything but way too expensive and traffic with aggressive drivers is a nightmare. I grew up right near Penderbrook near Fair Oaks Inova Hospital and then lived in Reston for years. Looks like we have lots of NoVAns here!
P.S. Best pizza of my life is at Fairfax Town Center: Pomodoro's! I swear you won't regret it. The plain cheese pizza is life changing
@chailife34 I grew up in the suburbs of wilmington, DE. I went to grade-high school there too. I almost went to UD but had to get away for a while. I have tons of friends who went there. Main Street Newark or Middletown? My dentist was on Main in Middletown - Meghan Cook (she was awesome but I'm sure your dad and sister are great too!). I don't blame you for leaving - we left and lived near DC for a while but then returned to take care of my dad after my mom passed and brother was deployed. Couldn't stand being there but it was great to save. DE is super cheap cost of living (and quality of living sucks ) glad you are out now! Us too!

Awww I live in DE and I love it. I'm at the beach though, it's a different world down here.
@Poison&Wine: We just moved from southern MS a few months ago. My husband was at Keesler for 4 years. I miss Biloxi and the coast...and Bop's Frozen Custard.
Its been so much fun to read these so I'm hopping on this train super late in the game..
I live in Northern Illinois in an outer suburb of Chicago- I'm surprised no one else on here is from the chicagoland area!
Typical Midwest weather, 4 seasons, hot in the summer cold in the winter... We live at the edge of where the densely populated suburbs meet corn and soy farming so we have a lot of corn and soy farms surrounding us. I love how the corn fields look in the summer and fall!
We live in a house in a subdivision, 5 bed, 3 bath, we bought it with the idea that it would be our forever home and we are so looking forward to filling it with some kiddos. I would love to move to Colorado but my husband is really attached to our area for some reason so we will probably be here for the foreseeable future.

TOTALLY different world!! The beach is lovely! Small wonder!
1). Where are you from? Or what area of the US? Were you born there?
I was born and raised in San Antonio (Hi, @pinkbarebear!). I moved to Boston for school and have lived in MA for most of my adult life. I kept saying I would move back home eventually and eventually looked for jobs but decided to wait another year, and then some silly boy swept me off my feet. I currently live about 30 minutes outside of Boston. (Hi, @rivers714@stratto814@mermomof6 and @brittneysandra!)
2). What's the vegetation and weather like over there? Climate description.
Four unique seasons, and each one is exciting when it arrives! The winter gets old quickly, but in my past life as a teacher, snow days were pretty sweet. My parents love to visit in the fall because it is just beautiful.
3). Do you live in a house, apartment, subdivision, condo, mobile home....?
We live in a 3-bedroom condo. The third bedroom (currently a playroom for my twins) is going to be the nursery soon. Real estate prices are no joke here. The condo is probably as nice a place as we can afford. I would like to have a house one day (and preferably live in another town), but most of the ones in our price range are much smaller and much older than our condo. If we're here
I'm so pumped to have other Mass moms!!!! I want on a BMB Dec 2006 for my son, and when the kids were 6 months old we did a Franklin Park Zoo Day .
I mentioned it on another post but it was really cool.... I also ended up in a moms group with one of the 2006 moms and we were telling our stories she stopped me at snack portion and was like "This might sound crazy but are you poniesandpuppies?"
Also sorry if I sounded creepy posting this after a weird banning of a member.
My timing sucks. I just want mom friends! I was pretty young with my son so when I tried back then there wasn't a ton of common ground with the other moms.
I'm from Manhattan, NY. I was born in Chicago but moved here 10 years ago. DH was born in Chicago also but moved to NY when he was 3. Right now the weather is cold, on and off rain, wind and vegetation you ask? It's Manhattan, there is no vegetation! Just pigeons and taxis everywhere. We currently live in a high-rise apartment but plan on moving to a 2 bedroom next year. We'll be staying in the city for another year so my twin (who's a stay at home mom) can watch the baby while I go back to work. But after that we are planning on buying a house in Westchester by the in-laws. Don't know how I feel about leaving the city.... will I be bored out of my mind? Perhaps, but I can't wait to get a car though! I miss driving.
1). Where are you from? Or what area of the US? Were you born there?
I live on the Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia
2). What's the vegetation and weather like over there? Climate description.
We're very lucky here - right now it's Spring, and we have beautiful temps of around 26-35 degrees - however, quite humid and we tend to get a lot of storms during this season. Summer and Autumn are my favourites - honestly just lovely! Winter isn't really 'winter' - no snow at all. It definitely gets chilly but nothing to complain about!!
3). Do you live in a house, apartment, subdivision, condo, mobile home....?
We own a home in a complex area although there are too many rules! Like we can't have a pet...
3) Are you looking to move anytime soon or are you set?
Hopefully in a few years time we will buy a house (not in a complex!) with a lovely big property.
nicunursetomommy Sorry it took me so long to respond, my computer was being weird. We live in the NE Heights of Albuquerque and since you are from here, you know that Albuquerque is very patchwork. In the sense that you can live in a great area and then there were be a crappy apartment complex or a bad neighborhood a block away. I think if you live East of Tramway and North of Lomas you should be okay but it get more pricey in this area for this reason. If we decide to stay in NM we will try to move into this area.
We live in Pensacola FL as far west in the Panhandle as you can possibly go. This is not the exotic Florida youve seen in Miami Vice. The beaches here are gorgeous and the water is so beautiful on the Gulf. I am originally from Virginia and grew up with ALL the seasons and even some snow on Christmas. I will never get use to the weather her e - its either summer or fall. No real winters - it may get down into the 20s a handful of nights but will go right back up into the 60s by daytime. You can never dress accordingly. The one thing i love is that the cost of living is much cheaper down here and i make more money. Thank god for no state income tax. We rent a 2 bedroom apt for 600 in a decent area... back home the same place would be easily 1300. I moved here in 2007 to be closer to my mom - she passed in 2013 so besides the boyfriend I really have no family here. The boyfriend is also from VA we discussed going back many times especially now with a baby coming. However we know that it would be a financial struggle one we are not prepared for yet

I love being able to take the subway anywhere at any hour and having so many shops, restaurants, other conveniences, and people nearby. However, our neighborhood is ugly and polluted and I'm pretty tired of northeast winters. So I could go either way. If I moved I would probably have to learn to drive though!
I've been there a few times, I have relatives in Dayton which is about half hour from there.
Edited for phrasing
TOTALLY different world!! The beach is lovely! Small wonder!
I'm so pumped to have other Mass moms!!!! I want on a BMB Dec 2006 for my son, and when the kids were 6 months old we did a Franklin Park Zoo Day
I mentioned it on another post but it was really cool.... I also ended up in a moms group with one of the 2006 moms and we were telling our stories she stopped me at snack portion and was like "This might sound crazy but are you poniesandpuppies?"
My timing sucks. I just want mom friends! I was pretty young with my son so when I tried back then there wasn't a ton of common ground with the other moms.
We own a home in a complex area
3) Are you looking to move anytime soon or are you set?
Hopefully in a few years time we will buy a house (not in a complex!) with a lovely big property.
Utah. I was born up north and moved to the southern part when I married my husband
What is the vegetation and weather like over there?
We just had about 8" of snow a few days ago. It's been a warm 15* haha. It's dry here, not humid like most states. Lots of mountains and red rocks.
Do you live in an apt, house, condo.. Ect?
We live in a house my husband built. Where we live is a really small town so we don't really have neighbors.
Are you looking to move anytime soon or are you set?
We are set. We will be here forever
I live in Birmingham, AL, but I was born in Memphis, TN. Hubs is from Detroit Rock City.
2). What's the vegetation and weather like over there? Climate description.
We're in the foothills of the Appalachians down here, so although we get all 4 seasons, I've yet to experience anything too drastic.
3). Do you live in a house, apartment, subdivision, condo, mobile home....?
We rent a 2 bedroom townhouse on a tiny lot for now. Were saving for a place of our own, obv we've had a to adjust our timeline a bit.
3) are you looking to move anytime soon or are you set?
Hopefully, within the next three years.
