Would you consider it?

Carol is a top girl name for us right now. I like it for a boy but I don't think I could be brave enough to use it. Lol

Thoughts?

Matt Damon's character on 30 Rock was named Carol! I, like you, would not be brave enough to use it on a boy. My dad used to sing Boy Named Sue to my brother and me as kids, kind of makes me think of that (in case you've never had the pleasure)

My dad's name is Carroll. He's met some others, but mostly female Carols.

I wouldn't, I've personally never heard of Carol being a male name and only know of female Carole's or Carroll being a last name, but that's just me

I would spell it Caroll-- like Caroll O'Connor-- if you use it for a boy. I think that might make this more familiar as a masculine name, at least to a slightly older crowd.

I know 2 actually, I think it's a fairly common Polish boys name. He may take some crap for it in the US, but that happens with soooo many ethnic names (poor Jesus Gonzalez) I wouldn't rule it out for that reason alone.

If going for the male Polish name, it would be Karol.

ETA: it's also pronounced differently than Carol is pronounced in English.

I always think first of Caroll Shelby (of Shelby Mustang fame), and now I also think of Carol from Walking Dead, so it works as male or female to me, I'm just not a fan of it.

Depending on where in the world he lives (think of his future) he may have a very hard time with Carol, Carolus or Caroll as a first name. Might not be the best idea.
Then if he marries a lady named Carol...

I think we should be more concerned with little girls named Ryan, Avery, Emerson, etc marrying someone with the same name! Lol
