3. Tomorrow is my glucose test (1 hour). Nobody said I needed to fast and I called to confirm that. So why does everyone else say I should fast? What would you do? The test is at 1pm.
Haven't read through all the posts yet so don't know if anyone covered this, but I'm having mine done tomorrow too and don't have to fast according to my OB's instructions. But I'm not supposed to eat anything with a lot of sugar so she suggested food with protein like eggs or wheat bread without jelly or butter. I think it just depends so would follow the instructions given to you. Good luck!
Here is my stupid question of the week, once again it is movement related.
As I mentioned last week, I haven't really felt any kicks or defined movement yet. The last two or three days I have started feeling like something is bumping into my cervix and pelvic areas. Should I assume that is baby headbutting or punching me? It happens quickly, doesn't hurt and will happen several times in a row in the morning and at night.
@CaterninaC When my baby was head down I would get this feeling. It was the baby and I kind of guessed it might be hiccups.
Married to E on June 5, 2010
Gave birth to baby boy, I, on March 25, 2012
Gave birth to baby girl, A, on May 20, 2013
Baby #3 due April 29, 2015
Recovering from mitochondrial dysfunction and Addison's/possibly very severe adrenal burn out using food, medicine, and a large amount of garden therapy.
@CaterinaC I'm a first time mom and before I started feeling real kicks and movement, I said to myself that every sensation I get that is strange to me and I'm sure it's not gas or any other 'known' feeling, it must be the baby. It's hard to say what is it that you're feeling but if it's something new and strange to you, it is probably it. Soon the movement will become much more frequent and strong so you'll know without a doubt. Some women feel it earlier than others, it's all completely normal!
1. How long does it take for your body to "bounce back" after a vaginal birth? And by bounce back, I mean how long will my vagina be on fire for?
2. Today I am starting my 24th week of pregnancy. This does or does not mean I am 6 months pregnant?
Really? Well your vagina will bleed for up to 6 weeks after !!! And the whole body bouncing back shite well in the 15 years since my last I have never been the anorexic weight I was before !!!
But I didn't bother trying because I don't have body issues and love me for me !!
Am I the only person who STILL hasn't gotten the 2nd trimester energy boost?
Nope! In fact, I asked my doc when I'd stop feeling so tired and his response was "when your last child graduates." So I'm thinking we're not alone and we'd better just get used to it!
How many items are too many on a baby registry? We have about 90 on our two registries and I feel like it's a lot, but I also feel like we only registered for the things we will really need.

This made me cringe. Please, if you don't have "body issues", don't throw around the word anorexic when discussing "body bouncing back shite".
Is anyone getting there OB or MFM a Christmas/holiday gift? I'm pretty close with my MFM and the sonographers since this is my second pregnancy with them...I was thinking I may bring some cookies in a tin this week? Any other suggestions?
Very thoughtful idea-- can I recommend fruit instead (whole fruit or store bought cut up)? I work in an medical office and everyone from patients, insurance brokers and medical storage companies have sent a cookie tray or gift basket. Fruit, nuts and healthy options always get eaten first!
I second this! It's so nice to have a healthier option.

I have over 110 and I'm a second time mom, granted I have absolutely nothing left over. Theres nothing wrong with options, and the cool thing is most stores give you a completion discount to buy the items that went un-purchased!
My left thigh keeps falling asleep. Mostly just the top and outside. Only the left one. It happens constantly: while I'm standing, sitting, walking even. I looked in the What to Expect Book and the only thing I really saw was about sciatica. It's not painful or anything--just annoying and tingly. WTF is this?! I wouldn't think twice if it didn't happen while I was actually active. It makes sense during times of laziness.
According to this pic anything that interferes with the nerves in/near your spine at L4 or L5 could be causing the numbness where you describe it. So that can include all kinds of non-pregnancy related stuff like disc issues, swelling in the muscles where the nerve roots exit the spine etc. but all of that can be aggravated by pregnancy. I would ask your doc to have a look and maybe you might need some physio etc. good luck!
Thank you!! I assumed pregnancy related but you might be right. I'll ask my doc next time I'm there.
Am I the only person who STILL hasn't gotten the 2nd trimester energy boost?
Hell no! Not the only one. I had it but now it is gone. I never napped even in my first trimester. I've napped both yesterday and today. Second tri energy bump is a lie!!
Anyone have pets? We have a 4-year-old lab and two cats, ages 8 and 3. I've read posts about introducing dogs to babies and some of the stuff seems a little overboard. We've got leadership roles pretty well established (he knows we're the bosses and he's the dog), and he's never shown inappropriate aggression, so I'm wondering if it's really necessary to boss him around for no reason and/or restrict his run of the house. The biggest concern I have with the cats is keeping them out of the baby's crib and other comfy baby places. The older cat may be a little jealous, but I think we can handle it. However, I've never had a baby before so what do I know? If anyone has any experience with this and can give me some advice, I'd sure love to hear it.

My friend has cats and said she put aluminum foil in the crib so when they'd jump in it would scare them and they stopped doing it before baby came.

I don't think there really is a number that's too many. It depends on how many people your host(s) is/are inviting to your shower(s). I think it's almost more important to have many choices in several price points... For example, you don't want your cousin with a tight budget to try to get something at the last minute, only to find out everything left on your registry is over $75. Also, if you're registering at Target, your completion discount is only good on items actually on your registry - at least that's the way it was in 2013 when my dd was born.
Thanks for the link @lovemymutzillas. It was informative and didn't make me feel like I needed to hire a trainer before the baby gets here, or put Drake (the dog) through unnecessary routines.
I'm a FTM, but our plan is to let our dog have run of the house like she normally does. We don't plan on restricting her from anywhere at the moment, but that could always change after the baby is born. Many of our family members have more dogs than we do and haven't had any troubles.
Any advice on how I can get DS to respect my belly and stop being so rough? He's 2.5
We've trained him to say that baby sister is in there but I know he doesn't understand. I've tried to calmly tell him not to. There was even an instance where it was a little too rough and I yelled at him (felt like shit afterwards). Is it hopeless at this age?
Call me an AW and I know I'm quoting myself, but not sure if my question was buried or I was deliberately ignored ::nervous laugh::
When I google I get a bunch of baby center-type discussions, I can't handle it.
@babynica- what if you changed the focus from baby sister to you? What I mean is, instead of reminding your son that he's hurting his sister, tell him he's hurting YOU. Sister might be an abstract idea whereas you are here and tangible. Also, presumably you've taught him not to hurt others, so that lesson may come into play here too. Just a thought...
PS- I don't think you're an AW. I think you have a problem for which you'd like advice. That's all.

We do do that. I tell him he's hurt mama. He's not a big hitter and I don't think he's doing it maliciously. Just a little rough in his playing. Just keep reinforcing?

My friend's toddler tried to jump on my belly last night when at her house. She immediately stopped him and told him I have a baby in my belly and he was going to hurt me or the baby by doing that. Then she made him apologize to me. She descended on him FAST and I think scared him a little with how serious she was. She didn't yell, but she was very firm that he could not do that. He was very gentle after that. I hope her method helps you.
@babynica- maybe some context would help? When is your son doing this? During diaper changes, or playtime? How calm are you? I agree that yelling isn't the best course of action, but maybe you need to be more firm, like @knitfastdiewarm implied.
I been searching google for this and saw many different answers for this, but I got this Spa Massager from Walmart for the back aches and now I'm seeing that people say it causes preterm labor and bed rest. I just wanted to know from your ladies experience if one of these pads are ok for moderate use. I may call my doctor just to ask. I didn't see any warnings on the box that would advise not to use them.

There's no specific time, unfortunately. He could just be climbing up on the couch or we could be playing. I guess I should pay more attention to myself and how I react. I just want him to be more aware. Maybe I should tell him the Bubble Guppies are in there haha
This is embarrassing and maybe TMI but I'm a FTM and am looking for a little reassurance or to know I'm not alone. I have struggled with HG throughout this pregnancy and peeing my pants when puking has become the normal. But now, it goes beyond just when I'm puking to sneezing and coughing at times. I do kegels daily. Have any of you ladies had any experience with this? If so, is this just a pregnancy thing or will it continue post-partum? Any suggestions besides the kegels that I have been doing?
Edited STM to ladies (sorry mommies of more than 2!)

Totally normal. It happens to me a couple times a week lately. I honestly do so many kegels I can literally stop and start my stream multiple times when I pee but I still sniss. Its just part of pregnancy and incredibly common.

Sorry I do apologize , I used to have body image issues and was waaaaaay underweight before I fell pregnant with my last , I was young and in a relationship where I was brain washed to think that even with my hips sticking out I was fat , I should have explained in a much nicer way than I did , I have a tendency to do that and abbreviated every conversation , so I guess I'm not brain washed anymore and just deal with what I have .. Again i genuinely apologize, You are correct it wasn't a nice way to put it .. I'll think before I type next time ( and seriously I'm not being sarcastic I usually am , so believe me when I say I'm not this time) xxx
My stupid questions are... 1) I plan on having my son circumcised at the hospital, but don't know who performs that. Is it my OB or the pediatrician?
Leading to my next question. 2) When should I start looking at a pediatrician? I have it narrowed down to two based on insurance and recommendations. Do I actually tell them "I choose you!" or how will they know I will be in contact with them after the baby is born?
I'm no help with #1 but as for the pedi we just wrote down who we chose on our hospital paperwork. She makes her first baby visit while you are still in the hospital. We happened to know her beforehand ( my DH works with her at the hospital) but we still did a meeting with her while pregnant to make sure she was a good fit. After she checked DD out in the hospital she had us call her office to make the first appointment.

This is random, but it's been on my mind lately. BTDT moms: what do you do when your baby starts screaming in the car? Do you press to your location, pull over and figure out the issue? (never drive anywhere with a baby? lol)

At the hospital I work at the pediatricians do the circumcisions. Our pediatrician does not have privileges where I will be delivering. It is 40 minutes from where we live but I work there so that is why I chose an Ob there. So while we are in the hospital our baby will be seen by the pedi who is on service when he is born.
When my first was born we just called the pedi when she was born and scheduled an appointment when we knew we would be discharged. That is what they said to do when I called a few months earlier to see if they were accepting new patients.
I also found it took a week or two to recover from my vaginal delivery. The first week was worse and peeing hurt a lot. I was nervous about having sex so I waited till after my six week post partum appointment.
I know I was stitched up afterwards but I don't remember really feeling too much pain while they did it.
My question is how long did you ladies take to feel better after a c section? I know everyone will have a different experience with this just curious what you found were the hardest parts and when you felt back to your normal self. Also what could you take for the pain while breastfeeding?
My recovery post c-section was pretty easy, that's not the norm though. Stairs were hard and I couldn't do a lot of walking or anything, but I never filled the prescription for pain meds they gave me. I know I took OTC pain meds for a little bit (I can't remember which kind, whatever they told me to take that was during BF-ing/pumping). Overall, I felt 'back to normal' around 10 weeks? But I'm including my emotional/mental state as well. PP hormones are no joke and your whole life changes so drastically - it took me a while to get in a rhythm and feel 'normal' again.

With our old pedi (before we moved), I just had to write down her name and number on the hospital sign in stuff and they notified her that DS was born. She came to the hospital every day we were there to check on him. I'm not sure what the policy is with our new pedi, I need to ask. If I were you, I would just call and ask their procedures.

1) Not sure who does it, although I know we have to tell the hospital on the registration form if we want circumcision, so it sounds like they have a procedure for getting it done.
2) At our hospital, we just make note of the pediatrician's name on the discharge forms. However, I'd give the pediatrician a call to make sure they are accepting new patients.
