Vent. I can't with the stupidity
i need to vent here because I am 2 seconds from an altercation on FB.
As you know two police officers were killed on Saturday in NYC. They were targeted simply for being police officers. My husband is in law enforcement and this is terrifying to me. The fact that it's now more of a concern than ever, that I don't have to worry only about when he is AT work, but that stopping for coffee on his way in while in uniform could now be just as dangerous makes me feel sick to my stomach.
I have heard there are people applauding this, that they feel it's revenge, it's justified, etc. People saying it's funny, it needs to be done. Just totally disgusting remarks. I thankfully have no witnessed those.
But of course there is a lot of FB activity about it. I posted for prayers to the officers families and changed my profile pic to the badge with the blue line, as I always do when an officer is killed in the line of duty out of respect and remembrance.
A girl I grew up with but haven't seen in years just posted this:
"Can we please for the love of God get off the cop subject for 5 seconds? They chose that career. God bless, but come on!"
Nope. No no no no.
Then after a few people commented that she was insensitive (among other things) she said "I just said that for 5 seconds of peace. My phone is blowing up with this. People take things out of content. My bad I guess" and then: "does anybody know what 5 seconds of peace means? It's called a prayer"
Back pedaling much??? You were asking for a prayer! You wanted it to stop because it was annoying you blowing up your phone!!

I'm trying to refrain here because her mom is one of the sweetest people on the planet and my sister is close with her sister, but seriously?
I'm going to have to delete her.

If her mom is that sweet she isn't going to be unpleasant to you just because you and her daughter aren't fb friends anymore. And her sister shouldn't be mad at your sis for your actions (if you can call deleting an action) to her sister.
But then I deleted her. It felt good but still, disturbing that there are people out there thinking those things. I don't get it.
Hopefully she is smart enough to figure out why I deleted her. I don't like those confrontations. I would never ask someone why they deleted me that is awkward lol.
But if she does I will use @Sterling13 idea
And I saw a few comments from people I don't know on friends of mine status' making similar remarks and saying all cops think they're above the law so they get what's coming to them.

This wasn't the outcome of an altercation or a raid gone bad or a robbery in progress (not that those are ever in any way justifiable or acceptable) but the guy literally was just like "I'm going to murder two random cops and fucking post pics of the blood on my pants on Instagram".

I grew up about 15 minutes from where those P.O.s were killed, so my feed has been blowing up as well. Anyone who has anything disgusting to say gets blocked with no regrets.

I totally get why this is such a trigger for you. I have a lot of friends that are dating/ married to NYPD officers, so it hits home for me as well, but I always think when people get worked up by something they see on FB, the simple solution seems to be to maybe log off for a while or serioulsy consider deleting anyone that isn't in your core group of friends or close family (read: those you truly know and don't think you would be offended by on a regular basis.)

And then all the people posting that this happened because Obama sucks. What??? How the fuck on a stick does this have anything to do with Obama? Some guy was clearly off his rocker and went and murdered to POs in cold blood. Obama had nothing to do with it!
Thank you to your husband for what he does every day!!! I have friends in law enforcement so I totally get what you are saying.
On a side note - its also shitty that a cop in Florida also got gunned down Saturday night I think it was and you never heard anything about it. And I read somewhere that some Boston cops were shot at last night.

I'm not anti-gun though. I own my own handgun for protection, but I'm a big believe in screening and registering etc. There needs to be improvements in how people can access even legally owning a gun. (People will always be able to access them illegally sadly).
I will in a state where no one but law enforcement can carry. So I have a gun for my home but I cannot carry it outside the home. My husband can, and he carries everywhere he goes. Because it's a fucking sick world out there!
I did hear about the FL officer and I believe they were comparing it. The two people said they were going underground and also made remarks to the effect of the police needing to be taught a lesson (paraphrasing).
So obviously the similarities make it even scarier like this is going to be a thing now... Copycats, etc
It's just sad all around. I hate this shit.
If the almighty powers that be don't provide a clear and fair and colorless example of respecting authority and supporting the role of law enforcement, how would we expect the citizens to?
I'm in NY and have many many many feels about the state of this shit.
I have had it with this crap. You can't say NO to a police officer's orders. You just fucking can't.

Hi-- I am also in NY and a NY native. I grew up in Brooklyn (like I said, minutes away from where this happened). I have many, many friends and family members that are NYPD/ retired NYPD.
I agree with you- you do not say no to an officer, but there needs to be some level of compassion, on both sides. Not a shoulder shrug. Not assholes wearing disgustingly insensitive t-shirts (the "I can breathe" T shirts come to mind) Not an "oh well, he was resisting arrest, it's a shame, but he was a criminal. And black. And fat." (I know YOU didn't say this @bythebeach09 , but it's a sentiment I have heard from some.)
Also, there's a way to convey what you are trying to say, and a dumb meme with Obama isn't the way.
OP-- sorry this got away from your point. I am sure it's super scary being married to a PO under normal circumstances. Good for you for blocking this "friend".
