How are your pets adjusting?

Let's see em! Or hear your stories about how they are adjusting to having a baby around. Everyone loves a good puppy/baby picture.

Re: How are your pets adjusting?

  • Well my pup hasn't been the warmest. At first he was standoffish and now he barks at the baby from time to time. Working on getting him on board. Needless to say we have no cute pics of them together.

  • My cat just thinks he's been replaced by the baby.

The cat does not look amused.

I keep telling him eventually they'll be BFFLs eventually, but he's having trouble at the moment lol. The big issue is he isn't allowed in the furniture unless he's on one of our laps. Baby is almost always on my lap nowadays. Poor kitty.

  • Surprisingly well. our cockapoo is very hyper, but she has been relatively calm. And aside from the initial welcome home, she hasn't tried to lick the baby too much. She'll sit still when I BF, and maybe lick a toe here or there. But I'm genuinely shocked, it's been much better than  I thought. Whenever we change her diaper and she cries, the dog RUNS to the nursery just to make sure we've got it under control.

  • Our beagle could careless, although he does smell everything after the baby has been in or near. Our german Shepard on the other hand has been very involved and curious! He is also starting to get protective of our little one as well! The funniest thing is when he try's to like our LO, he has the strongest lick, but with the baby it is the daintiest lick I ever saw!

  • I'm not sure how well our dog is adjusting. He gets a lot of attention but still gets jealous. Especially when we burp LO. He is also not getting his afternoon nap since we are all home. I think he will be fine but I am still hesitant to try to get a picture of them together. In a few months they will be best buds.
  • My cats don't really care. At all. They're a little jealous that they can't be in our laps as often, but other than that, not a single care. We keep telling them that they will eventually be friends. Baby will eventually eat real food, most of which will end up on the floor for the cats.
  • Ella (a 3 year old Yorkie) is very protective of her younger sister, just as I predicted. If the baby starts to cry she runs into her nursery to check on her. Where ever Audrey is, Ella is (as shown below)

  • My cat is super annoying, in a loving way. She always wants to sniff her or just look at her. If I'm holding her she tries to go on my shoulders and watch from there. Baby has a bit of a rash on her face so I'm worried she may have a cat allergy, I have an appointment to talk to the Dr today about it!
  • They are adjusting better than I thought! They already learned there's some boundary between them and our baby. They won't come near her unless we invite them. I thought my 3-yr old "puppy" (the white one) would be very jealous but so far she's been good! Our other dog is sitting at the end of my chaise lounge while I BF LO.

  • They, quite literally, don't give a fuck. This is baby #2 though.

Yep. Baby number 4 here, they are totally over it. Although one of the horses did nuzzle into the moby wrap looking for treats. Little miss was NOT impressed.

  • We have 2, 70lb shepard and 70lb pibble.
Neither could give more of a shit or even notice.
  • Our giant RottweilerXMalamute still doesn't know what to think of Jimmy. He cries and runs to check on him when the baby cries. We moved his doggy bed into our room so he knows he's still "part of the pack". (Jimmy sleeps in his own room)

I did however almost banish our puppy outside after he marked his territory all over the bassinet attachment for the pram.. Fingers crossed he'll settle soon..
  • My poor dog is so jealous. He was used to being the only baby. He is doing everything in his power to try to make us pay more attention to him than the baby. Hopefully when she gets older and can actually interact with him they will be pals, but as of now, he is so over it.
  • My cat peed in the car seat. It was so much fun to take it all apart. Thanks cat. He's good now though.
  • We took our dog Bella (6 year old female pibble) to my parent's house last Wednesday on our way to the hospital. We got to come home from the hospital Sunday night and my mom brought our dog back yesterday. So far she is doing really well! We are making sure to give Bella attention (and DH stocked up on special treats for her) so she stays calm and associates LO with positive things like treats. Our dog really is a big baby, LO waved his arms in the bassinet last night and it made Bella jump which was hilarious. For the most part she doesn't care which is just how we want it!
  • My poor pup is having a hard time adjusting. She was so spoiled before and we all joked that she was my "first born". She's very interested in the baby but she is so hyper and loves to lick so we have to be very careful letting her near LO. When he's in his PnP or MamaRoo she stays on guard watching him and when we get home from anywhere she looks for him frantically if I walk in before DH with the carrier. So she definitely loves her "brother" she's just always sad knowing she's not the only "baby" anymore. No cute duo pics yet though.
  • My pug and rottweiler are adjusting very well. They have been sniffing her feet, sit next to me while I feed, and then go about their business. When run to her when she cries but other than that, they are in their normal routine. I'm very glad that it's working out well with them.

BFP #2, EDD 12/26/14, please be our rainbow.

  • My two yearold boxer is adjusting very well. She has been very motherly to the baby since the day we came home. She runs to him with the slightest noise he makes. And heaven forbid we leave the house with baby. When we get home from an outing, Zoey runs up to us to make sure we brought him home with us.
  • My cat purrs loudly every time I breastfeed my baby. She disappears to I don't know where if the baby is crying. She is careful not to get too close to baby. Overall she is seeming protective and curious.

  • I was finally able to get a pic of one of my cats and LO. It'll take time to get all of the cats on board with baby, but they're adjusting just fine so far. (and no matter what I do, the damn picture is upside down)
  • Our dog is almost 10 and this is his 3rd time through it.  I'm not even sure he even completely noticed her.  Poor guy!
