I went in at 7 weeks and the doctor couldn't see a baby or heartbeat and told me I could possibly be misscarrying. But I'm not spotting & my cycles are 35 days long which means I probably ovulate a week later than average. So my hope is I am just not as far along as we thought. She says it could go either way at this point. Have a second ultrasound on Tuesday. Hoping to see something good. I know the date difference can make a huge difference in their ability to pick up a heartbeat. Praying!!
When doing the Doppler it uses a lot more sound waves then a normal u.s so they try to stay away from using that early because there is no way of telling if it can harm baby or not:)
My husband and I go on 12/29 for our first prenatal appointment. I will be 8 weeks and 3 days. The lady that works the front desk at my doctor's office said they won't do anything til I'm 12 weeks. No doppler, no ultrasound, no nothing! Is this normal? She REALLY upset me by saying this when I'm over here reading others getting to see or hear their baby's heartbeat as early as 6 weeks. Should I even be listening to the front desk lady?! I really wanted to puch her in the face through the phone!
I had a similar issue with my front desk person. I called another doctor (because this is my first and have no preference yet to which doc) the first one wouldn't take me at all until 12 weeks. The second made me an appointment for this afternoon. I'm 6w5d. My fingers are crossed hoping for a healthy appointment. OP thanks for posting this thread, it was exactly the question I was wondering too good luck everyone on their first appointments!!
6w exactly and 6w3days. Guessing my first ultrasound will fall somewhere around that point this time too, but betas are still much lower at this point than with my first so we are still playing the waiting game.
2 years, 2 surgeries, 2 clomid fails, 2 IUIs, 1 loss, IVF #1 - 10/25/10 = BFP!, DS is now 3.5yrs!
TTC #2 - 6/12 surgery #3, FET #1 & 1.2 = BFN, 12/2012 FET #2 = BFP! DD is 1.5 yrs!
Surprise! 12/16/14 BFP, loss #2 12/31/14
I can't wait for the "im getting a divorce" post in 5 years or so because your husbands were fed up with your disgusting chair asses from playing on the knot all day and getting fired 4-5 times for not doing any work. you guys are all winners!! ~ Laur929
We went in on 12/15 due to cramping and bleeding at 6 weeks 1 day. The heart beat was at 94. My OB has determined that my pregnacy is "threatened". We have a follow up ultrasound this afternoon and I can't focus on work at all. So here's to hoping the little one is a bit stronger!
We saw the heartbeat at 6w3d. Our appointment wasn't scheduled until 8 weeks but they brought me in early due to spotting. We cried when we saw the heartbeat, it was such a relief after the spotting earlier in the day.
We saw a little heart beat this morning! 6 weeks and 2 days, we had an ultrasound so early because we are doing an IVF cycle. It really helped to see it because it's hard to really know that everything is ok until you have confirmation. So grateful!
We had our first ultrasound today at 7wk4days! Baby is right on track and has a heartbeat rate of 159. That little flicker of light brings me so much joy! This is our first so it was quite a big day! So crazy seeing the life growing inside you. Hubby's super excited too, he can't stop looking at the pictures they printed us. Feeling so blessed in this holiday season!

@jgesi thanks for checking in! everything went well! The baby's heart beat went up to 132. They did find cyst which I'm hoping is normal. I can't remember where she said it was but it wasn't the normal ovarian cyst. So hopefully that just goes away without any problems. I'm very thankful that this time around all of the ultrasound techs have been so pleasant! During my miscarriage I had crabby ones that did help the situation!
I had an ultrasound yesterday (due to spotting). According to my LMP I was 6wks 2 days. Based on the baby measurements I am 5wks 6 days. Because it's just a 3 day difference she said we were sticking with LMP.
The heart beat was 130. I shed tears as I watched the little flicker on the screen.
This is making me super nervous. My hb at 7 weeks was 111, RE said it was fine and released me to my OB, which is next week at 8+6. I know I'm being irrational but I don't like being in the 'gray area' of normal!
I just had my first ultrasound on 12/31. I thought Iw as 8 weeks and 4 days on 12/31, but the ultrasound says I am 9 weeks and 1 day on 12/31. I didn't hear the heartbeat, but I saw it. The nurse said it is a healthy 162
We had our first appt today at 7 weeks 1day. Due to recent miscarriage around this week in September my midwife squeezed me in to get a quick ultrasound scan and we got to see the baby and hear the heartbeat! So amazing!
My on told me Im around 5 weeks, but we couldnt hear or see a heart beat my nex app is next Tuesday, hopefully i get to see at least a flicker, Im so nervous that i dont, i have PCOS and big cysts on my ovaries i prah it doesn't intervenes. Im sooooo scared, cant afford to lose another baby.
Are you guys using a Doppler or ultrasound for the heartbeats at this stage? I've got my first midwife appointment next week and she checks it on a Doppler. If it's too early (I'll be 6w 6d) I don't want to check for it because I don't want to get anxious if we can't find it.

Waaaaay too early for a Doppler at that point. You'd be really lucky to find anything on a Doppler by 8-9 weeks and even 9-12 weeks is super tricky and you'll not find it often. Most OB's offices won't even use them until 12 weeks because they don't want to freak out moms. Basically early HB's are found with a transvaginal US only until the babies are much bigger.

Thanks, that's what I thought. I know some OBs and midwives will try just in case but I'll say no if she suggests it. No point in making myself crazy over this. (With my daughter I know we found it earlyish. I think at my second appointment but I can't remember when that was. I do remember my midwife saying not to worry if we couldn't find it.)
Re: What week and day did you hear a heartbeat?
Won't be having my first appt for this baby until late January.
