Trouble TTC

Holiday Gifts for RE's Office

I'm just curious if anyone sends cards or gifts to their RE's office around the holidays. I was thinking of bringing a big tray of cookies for the staff. My nurse and financial service rep have been so awesome, I'd like to do something to show my appreciation.

Just before Thanksgiving I was in the waiting room and a woman came in with her 7 month old and a grocery bag of goodies for the staff. Not surprisingly I saw staff quickly rummage through the bag and take things. Not exactly in the warm fuzzy way you hope.
Me & DH: Both 30 / Married 3 years / TTC since 10/2013
Dx: Annovulatory
8/2014: Clomid (50 & 100) + TI = BFN
10/2014: Clomid (100 & 150) + TI = BFN
12/2014: Follistim/Ovidrel/Endometrin + TI = BFN
1/2015: Follistim/Ovidrel/Endometrin + IUI

Re: Holiday Gifts for RE's Office

  • I did, even though none of my cycles have worked yet. I feel like they've put in a lot of effort (many personal calls/emails from the RE) and I wanted to recognize their service.

Official diagnosis: Unexplained IF. I am 32. I have low ovarian reserve (low AMH), and poor egg quality. I've also been diagnosed with mild glandular developmental arrest (lining problems, detected with EFT).

We are using open ID donor sperm. IUIs #1-7=BFN. IVF September 2014 antagonist protocol, 8R,5M,3F, 5 day transfer of 1 morula = BFN. IVF#2 planned for January 2015 (antagonist protocol + HGH).

If I got warm and fuzzy over every donut or cookie a patient's family brought us, I would have no time to stuff my face.  And then all the donuts would go to waste.  And that would be tragic.

Food and nice notes are always greatly appreciated, but no one is going to notice or care if you don't do anything..  If you feel inspired, go for it.  If not, or if you are going to worry that they are not fully appreciating your gift in a way that you consider acceptable, then don't.  It's as simple as that.

Personally, I am in the "igivethisplacewaytoomuchmoneyalready" crowd.  I appreciate everyone there, but I don't feel compelled to bring them anything.

  • I gave them a card with dunkin donuts munchkins. Normally I bring a tray of homemade cookies, brownies, but my heart wasn't in it this year.

  • Thanks for everyone's input. I won't feel so bad if I don't do anything around the holidays. I tend to agree with PP that when their treatment actually works, that will be the right time to say 'thank you'.

  • I'm going in tmrw for beta #2 and am going to bring in these little mini cakes from a delicioso bakery near me. It's a small office (it's one of several in the practice), so I only need 4 to feed the RE, RNs and office assistant. Nothing special, but just a little something to let them know we appreciate them.
