When will you tell your employer and how?

I'm a teacher so I'll probably tell at around 8 weeks. My issue is that I teach drama and I'll either have to postpone the fall play or find a sub who is willing to direct it (all rehearsals are in class). This is the first time me being pregnant had interfered with my shows (March babies the last two pregnancies).

I already told my employer. I know it's early, but I felt that she needed to know so I didn't just look like I was being lazy. I brought in a paper from my ob/gyn stating I couldn't lift over 15lbs, and what my due date is. She isn't too happy about that part, but I have to do what's best for my baby and i. It's not like she can fire me for being pregnant..

Going to try to schedule my appointments for after work when DH has DS. We'll see how that goes...

One of my parents (I'm a teacher) asked if I was pregnant at only 12wks with DS... So we'll see how long I can get away with it this time lol.

My last day of work before vacation was Friday....our school opens again on the 5th. I will tell my principal then due to the nature of the students (behavioral, and severely autistic). My class is generally pretty good, but I am getting a new student when we return and his paper work states a lot of physical aggression, and I don't want to take any chances. I will make it more puplic 3 weeks later at 12 weeks.

I work in healthcare and work directly with a lot of patients who are undergoing chemotherapy / radiation, and lots of illnesses that are bad bad news for pregnant moms. I was 5.5 pg. When I returned to work from my first OB appointment my boss immediately came right out and asked me if I was pg. I could keep it hush hush but couldn't lie! So I told her yes, and glad because the sooner I can avoid contact with certain patients the better.

I manage my own center, so I told my coworkers asap. We are a group of 5 and super close.

I will not be telling the big cheeses in HQ until they come visit and I'm showing or appts get chaotic and they need a reason for me taking so much PTO.

I already told my boss because of the nature of my job. I work around hazardous chemicals and other dangerous things.

Luckily my boss has a monthly meeting with each of his direct reports. So when I had mine, I closed the door (which I never do so he knew something was up). The conversation went like this:

Me: I'm pregnant.

Him: CONGRATULATIONS, that's the best thing I have heard all week.

Me: I'm still early, so I'd appreciate it if you didn't tell anyone else who isn't on a need-to-know just yet.

Him: Absolutely, you've got it.

Me: Based on my regular doctor's estimation, I'm due in mid-August. Right now I'm planning to take 6 weeks off. I'll let you know if any of that changes.

Him: Sounds good to me.

And that was that.

@kpaulson2014‌ I also work with 3 males in an civil engineering firm. I have only been there 3 months and am nervous that he will be aggravated (though that's probably unfair because my boss is very very nice). I think I might spill the beans this week because we are having a mini pot luck for Christmas on Tuesday and I won't be able to eat a thing the way I've been feeling. Also, I have clearly been semi-miserable at work and I don't want him to misinterpret it and think I'm unhappy at work. Guess he's going to find out sooner or later, right? Good luck (and way to go kicking ass as a female in a construction co... props!)
