Now that DS is waking so frequently, I am starting to consider cosleeping. My main concern though is accidentally pushing DS off the bed or him rolling off. How is this avoided?
I either keep LO between me and H, or put a yoga block on the edge of the bed. He's not strong enough to roll over the yoga block or to move the block. My biggest concern with LO in our bed is when he rolls onto his tummy. I'm worried he'll bury his face in the bed because our bed is squishier than his crib.
Thanks @Joy1192, @Eena1242, and @mrsnorris1179 for sharing your experiences. DS is not just starting to roll; he's rolling multiple times in all directions. I am also a pretty deep sleeper. So I think I am probably not going to do it and just keep our arrangement as is with him in his crib in our room. Hopefully this is not going to be a long term sleeping pattern for him.
LO was just in my bed for the last 1.5 hrs. He slept...I didn't. I put him between DH and I and we have a king sized bed, but he is seriously a major wiggler. I was desperate though. He woke up so many times last night. I don't know what has happened to my good little sleeper but the last few nights have been horrid. I don't really feel cosleeping is an option for us either, but I do bring him in early in the am after after bad night. Even if I don't sleep, at least I rest comfortable and I don't have to keep getting up and down.
Yeah, I think it only works for us because LO only wiggles as he's starting to wake for food. He'll sleep in his crib, but if we wakes up crying it takes longer to put him back down. I'm too big of a wimp to lose more sleep now.
I've always coslept with DS so he's used to it/it's not novel for him. Like PP said, he likes to be touching me at night so if I scoot over he follows. I keep him at breast height with my arm around him. If he starts wiggling I'll gently pin his arms with the weight of mine or hold his hands until he settles. I used to be a deep sleeper but not really since having kids.
When DD started moving we had a few rough nights of her wanting to practice her new skill MOTN but for the most part my arm around her was sufficient to keep her next to me. Once she got older I put a pillow on the floor beside the bed in case she fell out. In 2.5 years of cosleeping with her, I can remember her falling out twice. Once as an older infant and once as a toddler. We have a low bed and carpet so she cried but was more scared than hurt.
A king sized bed.. And LO sleeping between us. She does her first block of sleep in the bouncy chair in the PnP next to our bed.. When she wakes up, hubby puts her in between us, and she sleeps between us for the rest of the night.
We have her sleep on between us. She always wiggles under me so I am always at the edge of the bed. My boyfriend is good at moving her over and pulling me back in. When she wiggles I give her the boob but most of the time she finds on it on her own. I used to sleep heavy too but I don't think you will once you realize she's in the bed. If he's not in the bed a pillow on his side works at keeping her from falling off.
We used to cosleep all through the night until week 5 now it's from like 4/5 AM till she wakes at 7-10AM. I nurse propped facing toward me with a pillow behind her back and she's always in the crook of my arm or sometimes on my chest. It hasn't been a problem and I'm always super aware of her. You can get bumpers that you place underneath your sheets or one of those netted bar things that they have for toddlers. My friend does that and it works well for her 10 month old
